I was lucky enough to learn to drive on my dad’s E34 M5, and at 3800 pounds I experienced how a heavy car drives. When Topher said 5400 I had to stop the video to solemnly contemplate what we’ve become.

You know what I always appreciate? You try to ignore the media on your reviews. Everyone else is parroting about the weight having never driven the car and it already forces their biases. I believe you have a little bit of contrarian in you that helps you ignore the agenda put on everyone by the media. It helps us understand what the car is like from a person who loves cars, can drive them 100x better than we ever can and people who just don’t want to listen to the same crap over and over again. In saying that I’m not even a BMW fan, but I understand they have to do a hybrid system. They are masterful engineers (most of the time) and because of that I knew this car would be amazing for what it is. Once you paint the context of what it is and acknowledge the fact that the E 39 M5 is never coming back, you can really appreciate the car as a whole. Even if you don’t agree with all of their decisions.

You americans are extremely lucky with how much sound you get. The EU version has 2 OPF Filters as well as a Cat + a set of valves in the exhaust that shut up any sound on idle or low throttle. The American car doesn't have any exhaust treatment. Just two/three mufflers. It doesn't even have valves as far as i know

The m5's grill just looks strange. The fact most of it is blanking panel with smaller openings just makes it look worse than the standard 5 series and i5. And yeah, as much as I like the g90's looks (minus the m5) the f90 just looks so much better. Near perfect imo

This new design looks SO much better on the Touring model then the Sedan. I'd honestly buy the touring just because (surprisingly) it looks really good. And if we're being honest, BMW's nowadays aren't exactly the best with looks. So I'm happy they atleast did something good with the touring model.

I don’t dislike the new M5, but it feels more like a Motorsport derived luxury version of a 7 series than a 5 series. It prioritizes straight-line speed over agility and cornering prowess.

OEMs are getting out of control...pointless power and weight in vehicles here in the US. As I get older, I enjoy my mere 450HP out of a flat 6. I owned an E63s wagon for two years back in 2020 and loved that car, but I realized that it had too much power that I couldn't access without causing unnecessary stress while driving due to the insane speeds it would achieve in a short distance.

There was a time when the carbon roof was a hallmark of an M car, symbolizing performance and exclusivity. Back then, you would expect features like soft-close doors or massage seats-as standard features. So why are we now missing something as distinctive as an active light bar on the rear doors? This is the spec to get if you're looking to buy or lease a G90/99 M5. Isle of Man Green Metallic + Kyalami Orange/Black upholstery just looks great...probably the reason that has been their primary marketing shot vehicle. Also, feel like the carbon ceramic brakes are must with this big chungus M5. Unfortunate that they upcharge you for those but not surprising.

I had a chance to drive this car and, when I walked around the back, I didn't think the engine idle sounded quite that loud ( and yes it was running ). I've seen G80 M3's in green over orange, and for the life of me, I have NO idea why someone would order this color combo. It's kinda cool for about 30 seconds because it's so jarring and unconventional - then reality sinks in and you have to walk away. Just doesn't work IMHO!

I feel like Hybrid is where it is at for quite some time, I wanna just cruise in EV and be enviromentally contious and happy not to polute quite frankly, but if I wanna have fun in the cornors or go longer ditances it is nice to have a ICE engine, I can not really see myself full ICE or full EV before EVs are stupid ranges, and extremely fast charging plus a little better dialed in exaltation wise I am not really into that starship acceleration just because you touched the pedal, I think there is a more natural ramp up on ICE by their natural constraints that just quite frankly makes for a more enjoyable accelration instead of feeling like you are in a fighter jet with 5G accelration.

I agree with that feeling for sure. I’ll always love the old lightweight, simple cars, but as times are changing with safety and emissions requirements, they’re becoming a thing of the past it seems. But EVs are going to take a lot more time and development to be truly mainstream and ICEs are still continuing to improve. I think hybrid will be king (and preferred over full EVs, especially in performance models) for the next decade.

I just don't get why people like HUD's. The same information is literally 6 inches lower if you need to see it, but most of us drive by feel based on the flow of traffic and we only check our speed every so often. Why would I want it in my FOV at all time? It's an annoying gimmick to me, but to each their own.

Where Has the Soul of Cars Gone? Seriously, what’s with the trend of replacing dashboards with massive, soulless tablets? Just look at the new BMWs-there was a time you’d sit behind the wheel and feel the car was yours. Every detail, every button was designed to create a sense of comfort and technology that worked for you. And now? Just a screen. A giant tablet that looks like it’s been ripped straight out of some iPad on steroids. No style, no individuality. All cars look the same now-are you even driving a BMW or just staring at a monitor? Back in the day, the dashboard was like a car’s signature. Open the door, sit in the driver’s seat, and you’d instantly know: “This is a 5 Series or a 7 Series”-you could feel the power and status. But now, in 2025? It’s all the same glassy, emotionless face. I don’t want to feel like I’m sitting at a desk in an overpriced office when I’m in a car that costs as much as a small apartment. I want buttons, toggles, and damn it, that iconic red start button that screams: “Let’s go!” Technology is cool, but it should serve the driver, not turn the car into an oversized iPhone on wheels. Where’s the spirit that made us love cars? Where’s the feeling that the car is yours?
