@@henrym5889 That's the case for most Miata's imo. The NC chassis could definitely handle the power fine, which was impressive... but traction in 3rd was borderline at times and that is just kinda sketchy in a short wheelbase car.

@@splatbubble love that about my old supercharged miata setups too. Definitely more V6 like, the turbo and was just naughtier. Part throttle 4th gear and it just starts lifting off much faster than you needed :)

I think the centrifugal supercharger is the way to get power in an NC. They only make power up top without the big torque kick of a turbo or the FM roots blower. So you come out of a corner and it's manageable, but then as you unwind the steering on exit, you get that 275hp thrust. Like a motorcycle or S2000.

I had a NCconvertible for a couple years and now have a 997 911 convertible. There is something to be said about being able to drive all out, revving the engine to redline without going to jail. That being said, the NC needs more power, but its is a great car. At some point I will have another MX5, likely a ND. When these go electric they will be road legal go-carts.

If they can keep the weight around what the NC weighed, I'd actually be excited for a hybrid Miata. Responsive torque fill down low if done right + could still be a 6 speed. Hopefully could even run in full EV mode in slow traffic scenarios.

I got in the Miata and laughed. Knees up around the sides of the steering wheel. Tall guys drive BRZs. Bought a 2023 BRZ and loving it.

The NC ergonomics are awful for tall drivers, so I ended up spending $300 on a steering wheel spacer and $100 on jass seat lowering brackets and the ergonomics are now perfect. I'm 5'11" with thick thighs. I think it was worth it.

Had an NB for 9 years and an NC for about 2. Didn’t care for the NC. Lacked the raw visceral feel of the NB (even though the NB is less powerful). Like but do not love the ND2 for that matter. Much quicker but lacking the rawness of the older cars.

2.5L MZR is a popular swap for the NC. Good power tuned and IIRC, it's lighter than the 2.0L?

No, the 2.5 is heavier. They're basically the same engine architecture, but the 2.5 has a taller deck height to accommodate the longer stroke, a larger crank made of heavier cast iron vs the forged steel Miata crank, and has balance shafts whereas the 2.0 does not. It's still not a heavy engine - I should imagine it's lighter than the old iron-block 1.8 in the NA and NB, but it's not quite as light as the NC's stock 2.0L.

@@vipermoon_ Yeah, stock redline on the 2.5 I think is 6,000? People put the Miata head on it and spin it higher of course, but I doubt it'd be happy at 7,700 like the 2.0 is. The 2.5 has almost as long a stroke as a 454 big-block Chevy. With that said, they are CHEAP, fall into place of the stock engine, and the additional mid-range is great for racing where readily available power matters more than fun. Personally, I'm drooling over the BBR 225hp kit for the 2.0L which includes cams, headers, ECU flash, and a sexy set of long-runner ITBs. The cost-to-power ratio isn't amazing, but from videos, the sound made my ears pregnant.

Is the NC better for taller/bigger people? I have an NB and while I love it, it is not particularly comfortable for long periods of driving for my 6' 2'' self.

It's easily the best for tall people. I'm 6'2" as well. Custom seat brackets from 1"- 2.5" drop available as well.

I'm 6'1" and fit about equally well in an NC and ND. The older ones are a problem with the top up.

I’m 6’0 (6’1 in shoes) and couldn’t fit in an NA and NB miata despite both cars having a smaller steering wheel than stock. I think it may be due to my relatively long legs compared to torso height. However, the ND2 I sat in was big enough for me especially with the adjustable steering wheel! 12 month wait though for the 2024 model year 😢 Can’t wait!

I’ve owned my ‘12 NC2 for a few months now and love the car. I’m 6’ 2” myself and felt the NC2 was roomier than the ND2, although I fit in both. The internet made me think I wouldn’t fit in any Miata lol. Best thing you can do is sit in an NC and see what I mean.

Any NC owners here I need some advice/help. My 2014 6 speed only has about 45k miles but 2nd and 3rd gear are hard to shift when cold ( first 10-15 minutes of driving ). After that everything shifts fine for the most part. Clucky into 2nd and 3rd is very stiff and needs extra help to get into gear. I've cheaged the tranny fluid with redline gl4. No change. Clutch pedal seems adjusted fine. Seems like very common problem when looking online about it.. 😢

NC3 owner here. I find that my clutch is really sensitive to changes in brake fluid levels since they share a reservoir. When you wear down the brake pads, your fluid level drops, and shifting suffers. Make sure it's topped off. Tippity topped.

@Ryan Yearsley Hi thanks for the reply 😀. I checked my brake/clutch fluid and it's full, but I will bleed it and put new fluid in and see if any change. It is almost like the clutch isn't fully disengaging or something.. but very strange it gets so much better after 10/15 mins of driving.. little bit longer in winter like 20 mins. That would tell me tyranny fluid.. but redline is exactly the same as what the mazda dealer had in it so iunno 😢. I'll try the bleed and new fluid and see how that effects things. Thanks

Ive had both. I used to drive around thinking I was fast. Then I got a Miata and learned how slow I actually was. Power is fun, but it can mask a lot of driving deficiencies. Also, very few cars are as engaging as a lightweight roadster. If I ever go back, there will certainly be things that I will miss.

Power is great but there’s something about a lightweight nimble car you have to at least experience it. I found that when in a high power car on the streets, your only smiling when your accelerating. In a lightweight sports car, your smiling all the time, anywhere, at any speed.
