Good call with the 10mm rope, I used to use a small fillet of damp sand to do the same, but the rope is better , all the best from John Scrivy 50 years a forman Bricklayer and college tutor.

As a 3rd generation brick layer in America who learned from a German family of masons, its great to see others using old techniques still. Also love the line "fail to prepare, prepare to work harder" Love your work and have definitely taken a few tricks from you. Thank you

Its that kind of attention to detail that will make your self build stand out. Excellent work as always, very educational
@Badumtsst14 күн бұрын
that mortar you mention, that they use abroad, it works only in places like south of Spain, Mexico, Texas, the brick needs to be bone dry and mortar super wet, it creates instant bond, thats why you see them work so fast with it, slap it on, and dont touch it anymore, not to disrupt the suction. Fantastic work mate!

By far the best brickwork video on the tube Dean is the real deal, informative and wise. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and can i give you a New motto for your true patriotism, Keep flipping the doodle bug, i think Dean knows what i mean. Good health to you and your family. I'm in the trade myself and love the sound of steel on brick. Great work soldier.
@jackturnermx61762 жыл бұрын
I was sent to a job once where I had had to nock out 4 big beautiful archways and exposed brickwork to be replaced with 2 steels so they could plasterboard the steels and have flat square reveals to achieve a “modern clean look”… I refused I could not bring my self to smash out such craftsmanship. I’d like to think I’ll be able to something like this one day it’s absolutely beautiful mate👍👍

It's nonsense to let the legacy of the past stop the progression of the future.
@NineZeroHero Жыл бұрын
@@Imaboss8ball it’s not nonsense it’s a matter of taste and utility
@Imaboss8ball Жыл бұрын
@@NineZeroHero the arch itself may have been nice but it's still nonsense to let the old prevent us from moving forward. The uk is probably the best example of this. Most of their homes are old, leak air, poorly insulated, not level, and just generally outdated. Yet they don't upgrade anything because the old homes have character. They even go so far as to build new homes to match the standards and looks of the old. It's absurd.
@NineZeroHero Жыл бұрын
@@Imaboss8ball You are of course entitled to your opinions as are the rest of us, but your arguments hold no water.. it is obviously a matter only for the owners to decide (unless it has an order of protection covering it) but the initial comment on here is just showing respect and sympathy for great architecture (which should be appreciated and maintained if deemed worthy and appropriate in all cases) your main point is regarding buildings being up to spec and carbon neutral… this can only be achieved in less than many cases! and is primarily concerned with outer walls windows and loft spaces… so knocking down perfectly good architectural design wouldn’t make any difference without the aforementioned work being completed first.

Hi marra I coud do with a bit of advice I love your channel and respect for the old brickwork I recently bought 700 old imperial bricks all different sizes 70-73-76 etc lol my question is how do I lay these is it just one at a time on a thick bed of mortar to try and get some sort of level - I’m not a bricklayer yourxexperice is bang on but ife defininetly like a go at it - just removed a load bearing wall etc all been done ok to building regs etc thanks my mate I’m from battrsea in London but now in Manchester lol love the accent 👍
@johntaylor5968 Жыл бұрын
The curvature is to shallow , this would not get building regs approval, better to get a structural engineer to work this out for you, it can be dangerous tinkering around the edges. Also use nhl 3 lime mortar 3 - 1 ratio. From a structural engineer. Good luck

Great video. I am from the States, been a long time for me. Made me remember doing a brick Gazebo with my stepfather who was a master tradesman. It had twisted peers and a herringbone done. We started from the outside building all four corners, and worked up to the peek in the center. The art of masonary is slowly going away herein the States unfortunately.
