I have named all of my turtles after food. I named my first turtle Turtleini (like tortellini except like turtleish lol). Two of my friends named my other turtles spaghetti and jellybean. Just have dogs random names, Pixie and Sierra. My new Pac-Man frog is named Wickens after wickens wicked reptiles

My dad has a very neglected RES. Your vids have helped me at least get her the most basic things she needs, but I'm hoping I can eventually re-home her to someone that will properly care for her. He refuses to clean the water pump or anything it's so gross. I'm gonna have to take it outside and hose it once I figure out how to get it all apart because it hasn't been cleaned in over 6 months I just found out. It's so bad. I feel so bad for that turtle

My dad also has a neglected turtle. I'm currently pet sitting his dogs while he's on vacation and I got a good filter/dock. Now I'm gonna pressure him to get a better sized tank since anything is better than a 20g tank for an adult turtle but I dont think he'll go for a whole 100g tank. Unfortunately I live in a small studio and it's also technically my baby sisters turtle so I can't just take it lol

You and Dan the Turtle man are the reason I found and fell in love with Diamondback Terripans and I plan on getting some (maybe from him) one day. How do you feel about putting turtles in a hydroponic vegetable tank, I can't find a ton of research on it from what I gather I think it's fine but would like more input's. that is so awesome! Hydroponic would be really neat, *however* I might be a little concerned about salmonella since the turtles are literally living with the vegetables. Maybe if the vegetables were to be cooked? hmm...I wouldn't know enough to say, but I'd just consider the potential bacteria.

Okay so I need help. I've had my red ear slider turtle since last summer and he's still scared of me, hides whenever I get up/ close to his tank after I started feeding him by hand he would let me pet him but now he just stays in his little cave... Then there's the care issues, I never really see him basking (but I may have an idea why) his tank is holo so he's not use to swimming which scares me that he's going to drown when I put him in deeper water (when cleaning his tank) idk what temp to keep his water in summer/winter and so on like I said I need help

Hey! Thanks for featuring my comment. I was SOO surprised! Anyway, I'm into axolotls and I got one for my bday in march. So I have kept him and his tank (with sand) smells SO bad. We cleaned, it, emptied the sand and its still bad. He's living in a bowl temporarily. How does ur sand NOT smell?

On a tangent. Hoku means star in Hawaiian you said, Sol means sun in Swedish. A sun is a star, not sure where I am going with this, well let's say you are a star for doing so many good videos on turtles.

Was it right for me to take in a baby turtle that I found in my pool? There was nowhere for him to go near us, so we took him in. He’s starting to get very used to his tank as well, it’s been about over 3 weeks and he’s doing great! Edit: he’s a red eared slider, and his shell is about 2.5 inches long.

You really need to buy them online or from a pet store. This is bad for the ecosystem. Turtles eat an array of insects. Yeah it’s gonna cost you more but not by much. Couple extra bucks to take care of the planet isn’t bad in my book. A lot of the native species you find outside aren’t gonna be very expensive either. I don’t blame you for pickin the guy up. They are really cool animals and actually make even cooler pets :)

Do you always put your turtles in a different place to feed them. Do they not eat if you put the food directly in the tank? Mine is still a baby and isn't eating and I'm concerned that something might be wrong with her.

They do eat inside of the tank but some people just put them inside of a bowl or something like that so when they eat the tank won't get as messy cause they're very messy eaters.

Lol! it's kind of a tricky thing...it seems like their always hungry. A healthy turtle will have normal behaviors, a good activity level, and pretty responsive to outside stimulus :)

Loved the video, I wasn't into turtle's until I started watching you. I first saw you on Fish for Thought and it reminded me of my childhood. We had an abandoned farm near us where we could catch sunfish, turtle's, frog's, and snake's. I had found a website that had all kind's of turtles for sale, I was going to share it with you. But I must be having a senior moment. Here in New Jersey it was against the law to buy or sell turtle's, even in a petshop. Since you like video's and animals you should look into making video's for like animal channel or someone. You might be able to get an internship with them or one of their shoe's. You could get a job at the Australia zoo and marry the crocodile Hunter's son. If I was in better health I would love to go work their for free. Don't worry about getting a boyfriend, just wait and it will just fall in your lap. As for being Hawaiian, Hawaii is between the Philippine's and Puerto Rico. I watch a great channel from the Philippine's called Dexter's world, he has a big farm that's like Noah's arc.
