People need to put aside the emotion and look at this situation objectively. Selling Mainoo is ruthless but very smart business. He’s an overhyped English 19 year old and is very likely at his very maximum transfer value about now. Whether United fans see it or not, Mainoo is a decent player but not at the level required for United to be an elite team. He is far too slow and regularly gets destroyed in transition. Clubs like City and Chelsea have made a fortune selling academy players for pure profit going back years. And United are finally waking up to this and how it’s very smart business within the constraints of FFP. Chelsea fans got so emotionally attached to Gallagher and were acting just like United fans are now with Mainoo. People need to put aside the emotion and look at situations like this objectively. This is exactly the ruthlessness required to get back to the top. Leave Player FC at the door. Because that is very quickly ending at the club.

Because it’s smart business, that’s why. Mainoo is a decent player but he’s massively overhyped by United fans. Selling an overhyped academy player at 19 is fantastic business because it’s pure profit. Sides like City and Chelsea have made a fortune doing this for years. Mainoo is not that guy. He’s far too slow in transition whether United fans want to admit it or not. And United need to be ruthless making decisions like this to improve the squad overall. Sancho took a paycut to go to Chelsea. From 350k to 250k. Man U are covering 150k of the 250k. Chelsea will be obligated to buy him this summer if they finish in the top half of the table for 25 million. Rashford should do the same. He has not lived up to the contract he signed. I think it’s a solid strategy tbh. A wage increase is reasonable, but 200k (obvs from his agent), is blasphemous and these parasites need to be told to f-off. It is highly unfortunate to lose a great player for it, but pushing them off will allow a reset. They are also showing they’ll not just cut costs on the normal club expenses (which everyone was up in arms about). They’re happy to sell off / fire / cut whatever they can to make the club financially viable. Not their fault, Glazers put them in this position. Anyways, a 19 year old Mainoo isn’t worth 200k a week, let alone 100k a week. Better players in better clubs get paid far less. You aren’t paying for his potential. You have to pay him what he is worth.

There was a version of this story that said United would not dismiss offers for Mainoo, Garnacho, Hojlund or new signings (the only ones United said weren't for sale in the summer), most outlets seem to have evolved it to being about Mainoo and Garnacho. It's not a rule around ffp when it comes to selling home talent. It's literally accounting and there's no way to change it. You can't book internally generated IP to your balance sheet.
