Hi TGV, it’s the duke of Devonshire that lives in Chatsworth House, though confusingly it’s located for from Devonshire in Derbyshire. Beautiful house and grounds. Interesting fact, when the house was built, the then Duke wasn’t happy he could see the local village from his new house so he had the entire village moved. Nearby in the grounds but out of sight it really is a beautiful little village. Always enjoy your videos, top notch.

I really like this stuff because we get a bit more behind the scenes. You had me laughing out loud when talking about movies. I'm sure you're all in on them already, but if you're not, you've gotta go down the Dario Argento and Giallo film rabbit hole.
@theurbangentry
@theurbangentry 2 жыл бұрын
AB-SO-BLOODY-LUTELY!!!! Love Argento, his daughter has done some interesting stuff too. Thank you my friend, knowing you appreciate Giallo movies has only increased my respect for you. My faves are very predictable, Phenomena and Suspiria, how about you? The remake of the latter was kinda great too IMO. Best regards, TGV
@Podcastage
@Podcastage 2 жыл бұрын
@@theurbangentry Of his more classic Giallo films I enjoyed The Bird with the Crystal Plumage and Tenebrae. Suspiria is something special especially with the vibrancy of color in that and the more horror aspects. It may be blasphemy, but I may have enjoyed the remake a bit more. I just loved the stark setting and how oppressive it felt, the choreography was also outstanding and reminded me a lot of the original Nijinsky choreography for Rites of Spring; very ritualistic and primal. I still need to finish up his filmography before I land on a favorite, but those two you listed are favorites for most people for a reason. They're excellent.

Doxa sub 300, not the 300t but the 300 with the thin case, bible crystal and small dial. I like small watches ranging from 34-39mm and I have to say this Doxa does not seem big on wrist. This is an icon but it’s very different and could easily be a wild card watch. You don’t have to go with the orange dial.. I have the silver Searambler and it’s so special.

Great video as always! I recently had the same experience when I bought my first G-Shock (classic DW5600 in retro green). It stopped my burning desire to buy more watches dead in it's tracks. I love it so much and wear it all the time. One of the cheapest watches in my collection has brought me a lot of joy. Hi TGV, this is the classic urban gentry video I always enjoy! About entry-level "special" watches, I highly recommend taking a look at Timex watches from the 70s. I know you introduced a Marlin long ago (seems it's from 68-70). Besides such a classic Marlin, there are a lot of very well-designed Timex watches, especially those from the early 70s; retro-futuristic style with "strange" case shapes, original dials and hands, ridiculously robust movement, and they are very affordable (non-serviced around $5-50, serviced: $50-$150). There are also many interesting-looking "Electric" watches of the pre-quartz era. You will find a lot of unique watches! :)

Brilliant update on behind the scenes 👏 As for watches, I would recommend at the more affordable quirky end, SevenFriday watches, believe they even do a sound engineer inspired watch. Or the new Swatch biofriendly material watch (I think it is just a matter of time before sustainability becomes the next big thing in watches). Higher end, definitely go independent watchmaking, like Itay Noy. Doing some amazing quirky watches.

Finally picked up a Seiko Tuna after all these years. Went for the mini safari which is a great size at only 39mm. Having now scatched that itch i have now set my sights on a new leather armchair for the study. Have already added an Oiva Toikka glass sculpture to the room in order add a splash of colour. I don't envisage too many changes though as i'm an avid believer in less is more.

Hi, TGV. Another great update. I DO like watches (Omega Seamaster, Luminox Navy SEAL & (less liked!) Digital G-shock here) but I always really enjoy your War Room videos. I guess it's the nosey bugger in me. Check out Lyme Hall in Lyme Park, Disley near Stockport. It's about 5 miles from me and was (I think?) Charles II's hunting estate, there's an amazing building called "The Cage" in the park where they used to imprison poachers. Some of "Pride and Predjudice " was filmed there, and the great house is very similar in style to Chatsworth. Gimme a shout if you're ever "oop North" on your next trip to Blighty and I'll show you round. Stuart, Stockport, UK

Heat is the movie of our times. If you haven't checked it out yet, Mark Fisher has some interesting things to say about it: "By the time of Heat, De Niro’s character Neil McAuley shows himself a very modern gangster by his lack of any ties or loyalties whatsoever: “Don’t let yourself get too attached to anything that you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner.” This in turn mirrors the atomisation of the brave new world of “de-centred” capitalism, whose lack of straightforward hierarchy only makes its exploitation more nebulous, casual labour in all areas of the economy shed in an instant as billionaires lightly toss their casual carefree faces to the world, “shirtsleeves informality and quiet authoritarianism”.

I think it is good to ground oneself sometimes and to overthink basics like you do. Sometimes we have cravings for expensive things and a few weeks later we don’t have them anymore. It is very important to appreciate the „little“ things in life. Expensive is not always better. For me I also long wanted an AP but honestly it is just some watch like others, heavily overprice with not even some over the top quality movement. Is it iconic? Yes. Is it good looking? Yes. Is it worth the wait and the money? Not for me. I recently bought an SKX (yeah pretty late and also „overpriced“) but that thing gives me so much joy. Way more then I could have imagined. Stay grounded folks.

Love the video TGV, what a darling Hugo is for the skull. Do you like the Konstantin Chaykin clown watches? Not my thing! All the best 🦖

TGV!! As for the watch suggestion, I know it might not be your style (maybe it is who knows) but have a look at the Blue Planet by Ciga Design. They recently won GPHG awards. And it is definitely different. And its not so expensive compared to watches that won the GPHG. Something zingy... I am personally considering it myself just because of the fun of it. Very fun, in a way there is an artistic value to it, and most of all its affordable.

Nice collecting goals, I do often wonder whether it’s ever worth getting the grail piece as the journey on the way there seems more fun! I’ve recently sold 7 watches to fund 3 grand seikos (snowflake spring drive, 60th anniversary sunburst blue dial and a white birch hi beat) and honestly it’s the most amount of enjoyment I’ve had wearing watches for a while… so important to not get fixated on what everyone else is buying and trying many until you find your own personal ultimate

Jeffrey Combs is awesome, he also played liquidator Brunt (a Ferengi) on DS9 and Shran (an Andorian) on star trek enterprise. Just now browsing a bit further, he played a few other small parts in different star trek shows as well. Ethan Hawke got overshadowed by Denzel, but Hawke was in Predestination, that was a rollercoaster. I think i dropped my jaw at least 3 times.
