@@BluGiant14 Don't pay retail for Glycine. Look around, and spend your hard earned money where you get best value. There are bargains to be made at e-bay, Gnomonwatches etc... The ETA/Selita movement can be serviced by any watchmaker, so no worries. Love my Glycine Combat SUB GL00185, and wear it at all times, exept as a dress watch. Have a few older models, Incursore, which I adore also. Good luck!

Great discussion. I bought one of the Citizen Fugu (the green one NY0151-59X) a few weeks ago, about $400US, and it definitely has a sapphire. I‘ve always ignored Citizen, but I wanted an everyday automatic for travel, and so far I’m very impressed with this watch for the value.

Totally agree especially on some of Citizen Promaster Aqualand models that feature depth meters, and rapid ascent alarms. Yes, some people may say all those features are bordering on tacky or unnecessary but they are also a feat of engineering and make them true "tool watches" rather than jewellery. I scoff at people who refer to a Submariner as a "tool watch". They are jewellery. Very few sport and rec divers uses dive watches anymore except as a back up to their dive computer and as many have said you are likely to see a Promaster Aqualand on a the wrist of a diver as a backup watch rather than a Rolex. I have three Promasters but my grail watch would be to obtain a vintage, mint, circa late 1990's al0024-06w with full lume dial, depth meter, and rapid ascent alarm with original movement intact.

Glycine are such value and also not given the respect they deserve. I own their green GMT and it is such well made! It wraps the wrist really nice, so it doesn't feel that big. Would love to try their 39mm Combat Sub or their Combat 6.

The Combat Sub is hands down the the King of value and very happy to see it included. TGV you put me on to them back in the day when as you noted, was selling for $1,000. The watch remains the same to this day. I find it funny how people like to ding Glycine for their Invicta ownership but no one ever says the same for a brand like Zodiac, who are owned by the king of “Mall brands”, Fossil.
@pauldack5129

I had no idea Fossil owned Zodiac. I think people don't treat Zodiac as Glycine because Fossil watches aren't generally offensive to enthusiasts where Invicta can be disturbingly offensive.

I recently got a Glycine Combat Sub vintage and it's just amazing. Everything from the bezel action to crown action, the bracelet and endlink feel. It feels every bit a $1,000 watch. Mine runs steady at +4 spd. I have slightly more expensive watches but the Glycine "feels" the most expensive. I believe mine has the sw200 movement and winding it is satisfying on a level I dare not describe. My Seiko 5kx feels like a Timex in comparison.

When you are talking about tool watches under $500.00 for diving, it is not possible to leave out the Citizen Promaster Aqualand JP2000-08E. It is a legendary dive watch and is still the go-to dive watch for a lot of scuba divers today. When it comes to specific dive related features, it leaves most others in the dust. Plus, I love the design of the watch. It wears so well on the wrist that you forget you are even wearing it. Here are my favourite things about it: - tool watch look & overall appearance - long history as a dive specialty watch - certified dive watch to 200 metres with many useful dive related functions - records last 4 dives (Date, Start time, maximum depth, dive duration) - displays duration, current depth & max depth of current dive - dive alarms for (duration, depth, ascent rate) - Other functions - perpetual calendar - chronograph (stop watch) - alarm - can set digital time & analog to different time zones - Accuracy - after 8 months mine is running a total 7 sec. fast - s/b accurate to approx. 10 seconds per year (that meets the standard for high precision quartz movements) 24 mm between the lugs provides the band with a strong mechanical advantage when it comes to keeping the case laying flat on your wrist. I’m a big fan and would have that lug to lug width on all my watches if I could. It is just superior to all other options. If that weren’t enough, the case design itself adds even more stability because of the extra width the built-in depth sensor adds to the case. This article (link below) .does a good job of capturing the history of this very special tool watch. www.hodinkee.com/articles/citizen-aqualand-birth-of-a-legend-end-of-an-era

When you brought up Islander, I was so happy you mentioned the Northport. Why I think that is a groundbreaking design for Islander, is because it isn't a clomage to the SPB143 new 62 mas, but it is different enough to be its own thing. And it is such a perfect watch at this pricepoint, i would say if it isn't better than a $1-2K Seiko, it's at least on par. The case is thinner, the bracelet is a whole other league, it wears much nicer, the Miyota is just so much thinner and offers a high beat at a lower cost than the 6R Seiko calibers. And I haven't even mentioned the USP, that ripple dial... The Northports are amazing. Well done Mark!

I gotta thank you guys. I have never heard of Glycine watches but when I watched your video I had to check them out. I am a big dive watch fan and only use quartz watches when I dive, so I'm geared for an inexpensive high-quality quartz dive watch. I bought 2 based on your review (The Combat sub GMT GL1054 and Combat sub GL1013) and I am really impressed with the quality and look of these watches. I just sized both bands and the watches fit and look perfectly on my wrist. Both watches have clean faces, which is another like of mine. Gonna wear one this week and the other next week. I absolutely love U.G. and Marc doing these. U.G. being my favorite YT watch show. I have loved watches especially mechanical from infancy. My Dad who was in the Army used to put his G.I. watch next to me that he realized the ticking from holding me somehow relaxed and helped me to fall asleep. To this day I'll still do this when I'm finding it hard to stop thinking and fall asleep. But watching U.G. and anything to do with them. Began a hobby that I so love. I buy old mechanical watches take them apart. Triage them then repair them. It's taken a few years to build up the tools. But I even have began fixing some clocks. Even though watch parts and their repair can be tedious with many screws being a dust speck. I love to watch lol the small city that is a mechanical watch movement come back to life. Many have simply been over wound. Probably by a young child finding it on their parents night stand and wrenching that crown till it's as tight as a head bolt lol. Releasing the main spring and a good lube brings these back online. As many are basically stuck in the time they were over wound thus no wear and tear on the parts has incurred. Great video guys

Love the video, guys. Not many people can hold my attention for an hour by chatting away. Funny, that. I think it was mid 2015., because in the autumn of 2015 I bought a 1521 azure, polished. In a quest for ever smaller watches, I just sold it this year. The fact that I wore it for seven and a half years is definitely tied to that review, but now I'm hunting for a Super Squale 38mm. By the way, I'll nominate a Seiko SRPG13K1. Another great tag-team video in the books. (And: I just *knew* Marc has a spicy sense of humor hidden up his sleeve - right next to his watch, of course )

When I dived as my hobby in the 80s and early 90s whilst serving in the R.A.F, I wore a Seiko and then a Tudor, but i saw the Italian Issue "Marina Miltare " and wanted one, then Citizen released the Civilian 200M Automatic Model in 1997 and I lusted after the Sunburst blue face Variation in the Citizen catalogue that was a limited release and just impossible to find ..... fast forward 24 years to 2021 and I'd sold my Tudor and had been wearing a Citizen eco prodiver for the last 10 years, then my daughter gave me a Christmas Present she'd bought on Amazon, remembering me talking about watches, she'd spotted a Citizen Sunburst Blue Face Automatic Prodiver, with the hackable Movement...I've matched it with a Blue Nato strap and with the winder at the 8 o'clock position, it is so comfortable .. I've dived with it and it's my daily wear

Great video ! Interesting to see the Citizen Prodiver, you mentioned the fully limed dial, I have a Promaster Aqualand old diver from my dad, its big and got the full lume dial, a bit of a fugly beast but a real conversation starter

Great video and selection of watches. I love my Arnie it's the watch I always seem to grab. I own an early citizen promaster lefty in blue and adore it. The Italian Navy actually tested it to 700meters!

TGV if you can review the 36mm Glycine Combat Sub, I’d love to hear your take. It’s size is a bit controversial but it’s so thin and well proportioned that it works for bigger wrists too. It looks dressy and elegant but is an absolute spec monster with 300m water resistance, sapphire glass, 120 click bezel. Wayyy different (nicer) experience than the golden eye imo

I received the Citizen Promaster BN0151-09L. It is a Eco Drive all blue and fantastic watch. Keeps time with 1 second loss in a month. My next purchase will be the Green face or all lume Fugu. Citizen is a Solid company

I love my NY0086 Pepsi Promaster. I wear it on a navy blue zulu and it is charming. It runs something like -8spd. The bezel action is great. Super watch.

Thank you for another great video TGV. Glycine also comes as a quartz now and can be had for a lot less, maybe you can do a rereview and see if the quality is still there.

Fun topic! In this price range, you can't ignore the Nodus Retrospect III. Great looking, assembled in the USA, with an NH35 movement regulated by Nodus to +/- 10 seconds per day.
