I had a rabbit, mouse and bird problem. I placed some poles at the ends with a string and some old CDs that I had hanging from the string. Place a few solar garden lights around. In the daytime the wind and sun caused many reflections of many colors darting around and at night the solar lights do pretty well at the same thing. Pest problem was diminished greatly.

I grew up on my grandparents’ tiny family farm in southern Minnesota. I’ve lived all over the world since then but springtime always makes me nostalgic. Watching these videos always brings a smile to my face and joy to my heart. Thanks for sharing with the world what it takes to put food on the table! My husband is in the Air Force (22+ years and still going!) so our family has had the opportunity to see how farming works in all kinds of places. (He also grew up on a small family farm, but in southern Illinois.) Right now it’s planting season where we live in Germany, and I can assure you the smell of manure is the same no matter where you go. 😋

Andy, can you share how you guys do task assignments in your family? For example, I bet that the need for transplanting those peppers was identified the night before. How do you guys make sure that it doesn't get missed? Do you have a secret corkboard somewhere with all the pending tasks?

Used to have rabbits and pretty easy to tell difference between hay and straw bales . The farmer that grows the strawberries I buy covers his berries with straw in the winter. He grows oats so makes his own straw. Also keeps the fruit very clean and helps keep the moisture in.

Your videos have inspired me, this year, to take my gardening skills to the next level, and I must say, your mulch layer seems like a must have tool. I installed about 7 40ft rows of the black biodegradable, with the drip tape to water, with an automated watering device, and wow, was that hard work. Took us hours to get it all set up. But by the next week, we could already see the benefits of this system. The soil was so warm and moist compared to the areas where we planted corn. We planted our tomatoes last weekend, and will get to see their progress this weekend. We don't live where we planted that garden so can't see its progress every day but I can bet it will b out preforming our in town garden in no time. U have taught us so much, just by watching your videos, and it is greatly appreciated. It has inspired me to potentially start a small career out of something I love to do. If my small test garden can achieve even half of what yours do, I'm sure this is something I can build upon for years to come

You guys could just use them through part of the year so they dont get used to it. Just run them for the months the birds are a problem.
