If great, great grandpa didn't homestead 160+ acres, your need to win the lottery or cash in your Apple stock in order to start up with todays prices. Sad, but true. If you do it on the cheap, then it's your kids that will get the benefit after you work yourself to death. In this area, the Hmongs make a good living with roadside veggie plots on a few acres rented for nearly nothing. No one plants on small lots any more.
@h.s.62692 жыл бұрын
@@RRaucina you can do plenty without 160 acres. Many youtubers I watch have cows and massive gardens. The op can live the life they want if they want it bad enough. Just buy 10-20 acres (cheap if there isn't utilities and entirely undeveloped) and build it slow. Work a normal job as you build infrastructure unless you were smart and waited until you had a lot of cash to go in off the bat. I'd suggest keeping the normal job until you've built up enough products and customers to actually support yourself, instead of quitting before you have a base. Many small time farmers fail because of bad choices like over investing without any return, so be careful and look into business side of it before you quit.

Zucchini bread is hands down, our all time family favorite. Once, I was fortunate enough to buy one box of 24 mini chefs quality loaf pans. All 24 will fit in the oven at once on cookie sheets. I wrap it up and freeze it so even in February, we can enjoy zucchini bread for breakfast or as a snack. Along with some real butter and you have got yourself one old fashioned treat. You should try and raise the largest pumpkin you can so you can enter it at a county fair!
@matthewgroff4332 жыл бұрын
That is what my mom used to do with the zucchini we grew in our garden! We used to make zucchini bread/cake depending on if you used a loaf pan or cake pan. It tastes great fresh out of the oven with butter!! Any bread tastes great fresh just out of the oven with butter!!!

I like how you planted pumpkin seeds in the old pepper beds, but be warned, drip irrigation can have bad germination rates compared to overhead sprinklers. Rain, of course, is always the best. It's a gift from God, and I love it when we get some good precipitation.

Kind of confused what you meant about the left over pepper plants helping keep the gourds and melons clean? Is the idea that when they start fruiting they'll have something to keep them from sitting on the ground and developing spots/rot? Cheers.

As I recall I have used "last years" plastic mulch twice. I planted okra after tomatoes one year. And I also planted tomatoes after squash once. Both times I had success with my crops. I know the climate is not ideal for okra in your area. But here in West Tennessee okra thrives in the hot humid summer weather. Your crops look good. Thanks for the video!
