I had this 4 days ago on my Great Saphenous vein in my left leg and today an area on the outside of my thigh (nowhere near where they did the procedure, but at the other side of the leg) seems swollen and itchy. Is this probably fluid, or something else?

They can be visible up to 2 weeks, you body is part of the healing process to reasorbe the vein leftovers

My procedure wasn't bad, but a few (2) days later I couldn't walk at all and the stocking wouldnt stay off. It was too painful for me to walk. The bruising, OMG!!! I have two have two more, I'm just glad it's on the back of my leg and not the inner thigh again.

Hi Dr. I just started RFA treatments last week. The first one (left greater saphenous) went fine. However the one on the right (greater saphenous) started out ok but then I started to feel tremendous burning! I started screaming & they had to stop the procedure. The Dr & nurse both apologized & said this was not uncommon but unfortunate. Then the Dr quickly exited the room & apparently went on to the next pt. The nurse said I could get dressed & was free to go... & see ya next week. Im still very much in shock & not quite sure that I want to continue with treatment. Can you tell me what might have gone wrong, & what I should do now?

I am very sorry to hear of this very distressing experience. I cannot comment on your case specifically, but in general if the patient experiences pain during endothermal ablation it is because the tumescent local anaesthetic (TLA) has not been administered accurately around the vein or that the TLA is of insufficient volume. Less likely is that the TLA has not been formulated correctly - eg the local anaesthetic is too weak. I suggest you request an appointment with the Dr treating you to share your concerns and to ask for a full and clear explanation together with the action he/she will take to prevent a recurrence. If you are still unsure, you may wish to request a 2nd opinion. Good luck.

Hi Doctor..I had bilateral evlt for both legs on Dec 26th 2019. Later used bandage and stockings for 6 days. After removed bandage, I used stockings for two weeks continuously and avoided stockings in sleeping hours. Now having edima in left leg foot ankle. Again consulted with doctor for advice. He gave one repair gel and voltarin. I am working in office. Generally not have too much walk. Need your kind advices..

Many people ask me about flying after their vein treatment. I guess the concern here is deep vein thrombosis. Fortunately, complications such as DVT after modern vein treatments such as endovenous laser are very rare. However, long haul flights are a known risk factor and I think it is a wise precaution to avoid taking a long flight for 6 weeks afterwards. There isn't any strong evidence in the medical literature to back up this recommendation but in my mind it's better to be on the safe side. PLEASE NOTE YOU SHOULD SPEAK TO THE SPECIALIST WHO PERFORMED THE TREATMENT FOR SPECIFIC ADVICE

Specialists differ in the advice they give after treatment and many advise different treatment options. I do not generally treat veins with EVLT and sclerotherapy alone as I believe EVLT with phlebectomy is a better option. My advice to you is to ask your specialist for the evidence that underpins his post-treatment regimen.

I have visible blue veins all over my body, for some reason they are bright enough to be seen through my skin. i'm a white male that's fairly healthy, 172 pounds so I don't understand why they are so visible. I am sorry to hear of your Mother's health problems. I am sure you will understand that it is unethical and professionally inappropriate to give specific medical advice outside the context of a medical face to face consultation for specific venous problems. However, in general, there are very few specific contra-indications to EVL. One might be previous deep vein thrombosis, or some other specific finding on the duplex scan. Good luck with your MBBS and i hope your Mother's phlebologist can advise.

Hello I’m hoping you can reassure me . I had EVLA on my left leg the vein was very deep and ran from my inner thigh sand around the back of my knee and going down the outside of my leg . The procedure itself I found very painful and at one point I was in excruciating pain so much so that I was screaming ,the surgeon apologised and continued the procedure there was a lot of blood . After my op a number of plaster type things were put over various parts of the leg then a support stocking which I wore for 48 Hrs .i had very extensive painful bruising and some clots came out of the wounds . My bruising lasted approx 3weeks . The problem I have now is pain and stiffness in both my thighs and the leg which was operated on is very swollen in fact it’s 2inches bigger than the other leg ? I’m worried something is not right ,my thighs are so painful and stiff it’s 7 weeks since op and it feels like my legs are getting worse I have difficulty getting dressed as bending my legs is very painful . I saw my surgeon a week ago and he told me my legs are still settling and he will see me again the end of sept . I take ibruprofen every 4 Hrs for they do help a little with the swelling but not much . Can you please give me your opinion I had this procedure done privately . Sincerly Mrs Warner

The VeinCare Centre Thank you for prompt reply although I’m not sure it’s Allayed my fears . You see the problem is that I saw my surgeon last week for my post op 7Weeks appointment ,I expressed my concerns about the swelling and pain he did an ultra sound on my leg which showed I had some inflammation and there was one area which was red and he zoomed in and took a closer look and made like a grid over the image and photographed it ! But didn’t relay any comments to myself only that there was some inflammation and he made an appointment to see me again end of sept . Given the problems I’m having which I’ve explained in I’m not sure I should leave it that long until I’m seen again as I said before when I spoke to surgeon last week he said it was still settling and didn’t seem concerned . I however am concerned I just don’t know where to go for advice because my G P will only say your under the specialist and if he says it’s settling then you will just have to wait . But I have this awful feeling there is something wrong could you please point me in the right direction of how I go about getting another opinion . Kind Regards Mrs Warner

Having checked my paperwork I actually had the op on 09. 04. 2019 so that is 13 weeks not Seven as I first thought .
