The Switch version had way more Digimon choices, but didn’t run as well as the PS4 version to me. I still enjoy both, and would likely go back to the PS4 one despite not having the complete edition on it, but either one is something I highly recommend. Da Boyz were: MegaGargomon, ShineGreymon Burst Mode, Lotosmon, MetalEtemon, MetalSeadramon, Magnadramon, Gaiomon, Machinedramon, GranKuwagamon, MirageGaogamon Burst Mode, and WereGarurumon. (PS4, the team on my Switch hasn't finalized yet, but it is on the way, and going faster than with my PS4 version.) Cannot wait to do Hacker's Memory afterwards.

Cyber sleuth is the reason why I have been waiting for a new story game for ages, and there is one on the way that has been in development since 2017. According to habu the story and world saga are the two main line of digimon games nowadays, survive (without mentioning all the problems it had with its development) was supposed to be a side project only to make time for that game. If I had to guess we'll probably be hearing news about it next year. And just to mention, I know a lot of people expect a cyber sleuth 2, but habu has also confirmed that the next story title has nothing to do with the cyber sleuth universe. I loved both titles, but sometimes enough is enough.
@BobbyHopp2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree theyve done enough with sleuth and even if they did do a 2 itd likely be a new world/setting. Personally I'd love to see another story game with a setting akin to digimon world 2/dusk and dawn where it's a pre-established world we start in already as a member. I've even heard some rumors itll be the digimon Olympus 12 themed which would be sick.
@Matiasfv2 жыл бұрын
@@BobbyHopp oh, about that, that's not a rumor, habu has revealed only a bit of information about the next story game, since he didn't want to talk much about future projects before the release of survive. This is what we know about it thanks to him, the new story game will take place in a new universe, the focus of the story will revolve around Olympus XII and it will take place in the real world and the digital world, not the cyber space this time around.

I'm personally looking for the next Story game to have all the rpg mechanics of cybersleuth but the plot of Survive. Plot being something similar to the adventure season (1st digimon season) where a group of kids fall into the digital world and end up adventure all across the world going through trials, tribulations, and building friendships. I also hope that the next story game is open world-esque similar to Pokemon Legends Arceus. Also keeping all of the intricacies of cybersleuths RPG system (allowing a bunch of digimon, all the digimon from cybersleuth still available, and tons of evolution lines). On top of all that I hope for the game to have the same thought and care put into its translation that Survive did. That would honestly be my dream game. I don't think I'd play anything else for a very long time. Currently in chapter 8 in hacker's memory. The games good don't get me wrong, but it is frustrating seeing how bad it was localized in terms of dialogue. I also really crave an experience in the digital world. Definitely the reason why I like survive so much. In General I do think Bamco is very cheap when it comes to the Digimon Franchise. They skimp out on so many features and technology and treat Digimon like the step child of their franchises. Take the Vital Bracelet for example. The product is maybe worth $15 with the tech it has. It's clunky, it has a horrible strap, its just a cheaply made product. You can get smart watches for $50 that are years above in tech compared to the Vital Hero. The Vital Hero is like 65 bucks.

And in battle they even have unique knockdowns, with more interesting mechanics to boot People have been begging for all these features for years, meanwhile digimon continues to add more each game

Mastemon is my favourite, her main attack takes a solid 25% of all enemies current health, regardless of resistances and given she digivolves from ladydevimon and angewomon, you also have some decent aoe or single target attacks in light or dark, plus the healing abilities from angewomon including the ability to revive your allies. My starter digimon was actually Palmon, who I raised over the course of the game into Rosemon Burst Mode.

Something else I really appreciate about the Digimon Story games is that they remember that the Digimon is set in an infinite multiverse (DS and Dawn contain Cameos from Adventure and Data Squad) and this game contains references and/ or has you meeting characters in it's DLC (which I believe are automatically included in the Complete edition) from the V-1 Manga, Re:Digitize game, and has this game's MC (Aiba) actually dealing with the fallout from the Digimon World Dusk game, by providing support to that game's MC (Sayo). The references are crazy!

funnily enough this is also a small part of the coming Hackers Review too
@theonewhoismany80722 жыл бұрын
Cyber Sleuth was actually the game that came with the confirmation that the Digimon Multiverse is infinite has an infinite number of universes,timelines,parallel worlds that branch infinitely through infinitely branching space-time one world for each possible possibility of wich we know from Mirei during ReDigitize that there are an endless number of and from the same game through the Memorial Stela, who are located through the Digital World and aim to collect all the information available through the flow of data around. This information is stored and used to construct calculations, literally endless possibilities of worlds through a "bottomless pit" of data where all of this is manifested each world being a different space-time that do not interact. Cyber Sleuth also severely upgraded the cosmology introducing ultradimensions and ultradimensional space like the World of the Eaters. The worlds of the same nature as the World of the Eaters are so beyond everything in the cosmology that they are no longer considered as higher dimensional but ultradimensional.They're higher dimensions that extend beyond an infinite number of worlds (multiverse/multiverses), which are more complex, beyond all concepts of time, beyond our understanding, our imagination, and even our ability to comprehend that we cannot and should not ever be able to access. Even Yggdrasil with omnipotent computing power can only detect but not interact with these worlds.The Eaters, who inhabitant one of these higher dimensions with "ultradimensional space", have no concept of limits,time and boundaries and they exist in all dimensions.Everything is below these higher worlds with "ultradimensional space". Every multiverse, every infinite dimension, every higher dimension (with higher dimensional space), everything. That's why it's called ultradimensional According to Suedō, the Eaters higher world (with the ultradimensional space) and all the Digimon cosmology up to it are only a small part of the Great Intent,the name that Suedo gives to the system of existence from which everything we have seen so far is only a "part".

Congrats on not mentioning the word "Persona" once throughout this review. Its hard not to make the comparison seeing how much the shoe fits. Cyber Sleuth is an absolutely fantastic game that I adore but it does have a major flaw in having no skip button, so on repeat playthroughs you have to sit through everything and it can take forever to get past the beginning parts. Interesting to hear your point about how this game serves as such a good entry and reintroduction of the Digimon series, especially compared to Next Order. I would have assumed the nostalgia factor to Next Order having the original Digimon World style of game (and a more distinct gameplay) would have been the better option, although I admittedly had never experienced or even heard of the Story games on DS until a couple years back, and your strong case here convinced me that Story truly was the best option for the Digimon popularity revival we see today. Awesome video with great coverage of the topic and some real neat ideas on how you'd improve upon the formula. @@BobbyHopp Even if they don't always play completely similarly the apparent similar themes and inspiration it takes from SMT is tangible even in the older titles though. Looking back on it, the initial treatment of Data, Virus, and Vaccine prior to the rock/paper/scissors mechanic as seen with the 3 factions in World 2 feels like a simplified nod towards Chaos, Neutral, and Order, and even the affinity system to acquire teammates through gifts in 2 might be inspired partly by the negotiation system too so they've always taken after SMT to some extent. It's just the narrative is leaning more towards it now too, and outright adapting similar gameplay loops (Cyber and Hacker play similarly and have an inventory system similar to current SMT combat and team composition, which again I think 2 had somewhat as well, and Survive mixing in isometric grid combat often seen in stuff like FE but also the original Persona games and having what is essentially outright demon negotiation and morality systems like in SMT). Some designs of the digimon themselves feel like nods too, and Mamemon feels like the Jack Frost of the series, even more than Agumon but that's just a general mascot thing. I do see what you mean though. The first World was straight up 3D tomagachi - the game, 2 was procedural dungeon crawling with 3 on 3 combat, the 3rd game was a traditional turn based 1 on 1 rpg with armor and accessory slots and everything, and 4 was an isometric semi-freeroam hack and slash with very minimal story. 4 games in the same named digimon series, none of which played the same. And that's not even counting the smash clone rumble arena games and other side things. Digimon is incredibly varied, sometimes to the appreciation of fans and newcomers and sometimes less so.

That game had a great story, but for a game that was in development for so incredibly long, the amount of digimons that can be raised is hilariously small. Survive was addictive the first time through, but for its high price, its replayability is just way too low compared to cybersleuth, especially after figuring out and experiencing all the routes. Now I'm just wishing that Bandai can make another one of these new digimon story games in the near future, especially seeing how it's received so well by Japanese as well as western fans

I think Cyber Sleuth really kicked everything off for Digimon to come back to the west and tbh also came out at the perfect time for people who were tired of Pokemon and wanted something much more mature. It's not even like a huge leap but oh my god does it do so many things better than a lot of the games similar to it
@justsomejojo2 жыл бұрын
I think the value of the dual pack cannot be understated. I played Cybersleuth three times so far, once on PS4 when I dropped it around the midway point because I wanted to use my favorites but they just didn't happen to have any piercing moves AND I played on Hard, a second time on PS4, this time on Normal and a more rational approach to my Digimon picks (I beat it on that run and pretty handily too) and then a third time on Hard on the dual pack, which applies HM's balance changes to both games. Some of the broken mons from the first game (UIForceVeedramon, among others) gets turned down a peg, while others get lifted up and enemies (on Hard) get balanced to a challenging but more natural feeling level. No more 20 turns in a row for a boss only for the next boss right after to get oneshot by your party. Overall, I like the Cybersleuth series as a more inviting return of the franchise, but my favorites for the raising aspect still are the DS games, which, while a lot simpler in some aspects and a lot more obtuse in others, offer a better monster training experience. I play Cybersleuth for the story and the digimon just grow on the way, but I play Digimon World DS, Dusk and Dawn for the mons themselves as the story happens in a loose fashion on your own terms. Cybersleuth makes the whole evolution tree hopping a LOT more accessible by visualizing it ingame, but also cuts down its usefulness at the same time by making stats fixed instead of increased by evolving and devolving as well as making moves a LOT less divérse outside of support techniques. Most attacks are just elemental reskins and special moves are often way better, making the inheriting moves system kind of pointless for straight offense. The DS games would LOVE to have expansive evolution trees like this and they do, but only via DNA evolution, which without outside help never goes anywhere ingame on a regular playthrough.

I've only recently got a PS4 and have found both Cyber Sleuth games pretty easily and pretty cheap! But, since I'm having a spot of bother finding it, I found World Next Order on PSN and it's on offer, about £6-odd, so I went and got a top-up, jus to buy it! I've also been loving the new TCG (even if I didn't know they were even planning on making one, let alone that it had been released until I saw it been played at my local OTS store...), so, cuz I play a D-Brigade/Chaosdramon-themed build (that I like to call "Dramon-Brigade"), I picked Hagurumon, even though I don't run it cuz Toyagumon makes Mekanorimon dumb!

Been searching for a Digimon game to start with, got both it and a great new channel to follow! Your analysis made me realize that delving into those games will not only be worthwhile, but might provide a new favourite! I really like that Pokémon is both acessible and has a really high ceiling, what with held items, different moves and strategies, and Cyber Sleuth's Digi and De-Digivolution sound right up my alley, excited to invest time into making the best big little buggers I can. Knowing that about every Digimon can be a worthwhile team member during the campaign is great, too. Really excited about getting this! Thanks for the review!

@@BobbyHopp After a month, I'd put 65 hours into the game and absolutely loved it. I'm torn between doing a replay of CS or to just go and play Hacker's Memory (which I already own!). There are a decent number of flaws, but it completely nailed Digimon raising and nearly nailed battles - raising is just inconvenient and engaging enough for making the Megas and Jogress feel stupidly rewarding, and battles are a ton of fun and require decent strategies - playing on hard mode, I loved the Virus, Vaccine and Data trifecta, tons of impactful abilities and skills to learn, later on I've loved buffing/debuffing and I enjoyed the "penetrate meta" and overpowered bosses, but it felt noticeably balanced around using items - especially Eater Adam (which was a fantastic fight). There are a ton of Digimon to go through and raise, I'm salivating at the thought of replaying it and going in a completely different direction with evo lines and 'mons. The setpieces later on and the OST throughout were absolute bangers. The weakest link is the story, and even then there are some pretty decent characters (even if they fumbled one of my favorites _hard_) and worldbuilding explored through sidequests. Really should have had skippable cutscenes, too. Sorry for nerding out so much lol, but I did love this game a LOT. Thank you for your review! It gave me a lot of confidence to buy it, and my fears of it being mediocre were completely blown out the water. I've replayed Pokémon Shield 4 times and I think this is one of my favorite JRPGs on the Switch, which is really not a small accomplishment to me!

Honestly if you're hungry for more digimon I would highly recommend trying out hackers memory as it has its own different campaign and story in the same setting! 15:05 This... I got wiped by Dynasmon a couple times, he mopped the floor with my party and even after leveling I spent more time trying to land a hit between heals, a hit that would do a tiny fraction of his HP, then my LadyDevimon evolved to Lilithmon and... well, he and Leopardmon got one shot, my final party lineup was Sakuyamon, Mastemon and Lilithmon, Sakuyamon removes their buffs and buffs my team, Mastemon heals and does AoE, Lilithmon is an absolute steamroller, only had to use a few more members on the very final boss and because I was... unaware of one part of the fight and made it longer than it should have

SPOILERS below!!! Although more vague details but still if you are gonna pick this game up it’s best to not read this!!! I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt the latter half of the game lost focus in the story, especially in Arata’s case who was my favourite character. Also the ending did feel a little rushed in my opinion. Although with the ideas and topics it presents I can’t really imagine how to end the story any better since it explored the pros and cons of having a virtual world in society which can only really be left up to interpretation. I preferred the more Sleuth mystery style story and atmosphere at the beginning more than the typical cliche JRPG endgame story that became more prevalent towards the end. Apart from that I love this game, great combat and overall story, I actually got addicted to getting every Digimon in the field guide. It does make me wish there were more monster collector games available, especially since Yokai Watch 4 has not yet been localised (if it’s even going to be) sadly. Probably need another petition to show interest, unless it’s a different issue with bringing it over that I don’t know of.
@BobbyHopp2 жыл бұрын
Glad to actually see someone agrees with me about the story since I know alot of people really like the games plot. The second half is really held up by the games setting and the introduction of digimon into the real world which keeps up the interest despite the plot failing it certain ways. Ngl Id sign a petition for Yokai Watch 4 in the west but ive also heard Level 5 is kinda falling apart at the seams in japan and I wonder if thats a contributing factor as well.
