I recently bought their 1986 "license to ill" cassette tape and I can't stop listening to it. I wish I could of met them
@jaxbeachguitars10 жыл бұрын
I remember the concert they had after "License to Ill" was released. I am black but had listened to punk and hardcore since 1982 so I was telling all my family and hood friends that the Beastie was punk but they lwere ike way to deep in the hype about the band. Well in 1987 they were at the Old Jacksonville Coliseum with Fishbone and Murphy's Law!!! Fuckin' unbelievable. Me my friends Dan and Sean were there and watch a whole lot of blacks get pissed off at the fact the Fishbone lead singer's dick was hanging out and Murphy's set was booed from start to beginning...so they mooned the audience. Great show!
@smsiv10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that tour with Fishbone and Murphy's Law was awesome. My main memory: "Fishbone is red hot!". Picked up Murphy's Law album afterwards, it was actually great. I think it was Louisville, KY where I caught the show.

@truehistory84403 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they eventually found the style that fit them, but at this point he was just screaming into a mic lol. It's not very listenable, but their confidence and drive pushed them to find their medium of art. Hello Nasty is still my favorite record by them.

I know I'm in the minority here, cause I was into the Beastie Boys from say 1983 - 1984, and once Cookie Puss came out, well... I guess you could say I was not into that. I loved the Beasties, first show I saw them at was CBGBs with the Young and the Useless, and then Reagan Youth.... wild show from what I remember.... maybe early summer 1983 ?? Ratcage records was the bomb !! Now that I remember being like in somebodies room that just happened to sell records the place was in a real small storefront.. and I think Dave and this blonde girl lived in the back..... man, I'm so glad I was around back then !! Thing is, now - recently - I've FINALLY got a super deep appreciation for everything that followed Polly Wong Stew, and I realize now just how great the Beastie Boys really were/are, it's almost as if the music sounds better now than it did 30 years ago.... Thanks for posting this video. Holy Snapper - it was a real trip watching this just now and saying to myself, oh yeah.... I remember her, and her.... such a long long time ago..... Beastie Boys STILL rule..... OK ???

How does this doc only refer to Kate Schellenbach once, as "Kate"? One of the original Beastie Boys was a GIRL and that was drummer Kate Schellenbach, who went on to drum for Lucious Jackson - she's seen throughout this and playing drums for BB @8:20 and @12:07

They were lucky they came out when they did, with limited exposure and CDs/cassettes as the only way to buy part of an album. Today, their window would have been early 2000s with Eminem and they cannot hold a candle to the new style. It was funny, sampled music, but musically the albums are actually pretty hard to listen to from song 1 to the end. They would have sold singles and few of them imo as their mainstream song success likely numbers under 10 songs.
@formzino5 жыл бұрын
Lol, the implication is that Eminem albums are better than Beastie boys albums? Beastie boys have a run of like 4 or 5 classic albums in row which are respected by people with a range of musical tastes. Eminem made like 2 decent albums then ran out of shit to talk about
@jonathanvillalobos79944 жыл бұрын
@@formzino Plus beastie boys dont have pop stars in thier albums.to sell récords like eminem.
