If Princess Margaret really said “Poor Elizabeth nothing of your own, not even your love affair.” She would have been the one to know and it adds another of sadness to the Queen saying “I don’t own the palaces, I don’t own the paintings and now they’ve even taken my name.” How deeply tragic.

I viewed almost every documentary on the royals. I watched one of the wedding of Elizabeth & Philip. They said that people gave their ration stamps of flour and sugar to make their cake. I can’t find it now and current ones are not stating this. Several nylon stockings were sent as wedding gifts since those were rationed as well. Funny how little things are being either edited out or just not mentioned any more. Thanks for your videos. 🥹

I have a lot of respect for Phillip. Till he married Elizabeth - or perhaps till he made it to Gordonston - he had a truly tragic life. Born Prince of Greece AND Denmark, but by 18 months old he’s being passed around by relatives all over Europe - no home, no parents, pretty much orphaned. And that went on for years.

We are talking about a man thrust into the position of king, when he never expected it. He had terrible insecurities caused by his father, as well as the stutter. I'm sure George VI probably felt the uniforms were some kind of armor that gave him some security and helped put him forward as a leader. I have always had a lot of sympathy for him. He loved his daughters and did his duty. Loving his daughters was easy. Asking Britain to stand up to the Luftwaffe was not.

Oooh, that snippet with Queen Mary makes me think she was the making of the late Queen. Taught her a valuable lesson, that I’m sure she passed on to Prince William.

I have one sister, couple of years older than me. As a child, I adored her... wanted to do, look, BE her in every way. Mom made some of our clothes and she would pick the same pattern fabric but in different color schemes to encourage that sisterly relationship. I'll have to ask my sister if it rubbed her the wrong way. I don't think so. Anyway, when Sister and I were packing mom's home after she passed away, we found a couple of those little girl clothes. Yes, the tears flowed and flowed. She was (is?) a treasure in our hearts, forever.

My sister and I, 8 years apart, had matching dresses. Just a couple. We loved them and we still talk about them now. I confess, my 3 boys when young, were dressed in identcal outfits, different colours. They were each 2 years apart. People loved it and so did they. Well stopped by mid primary of course. Attending my Nieces wedding in there matching whire shirts,,black pants and bow ties at 5, 3 and 1, brought lots of attention.

My mother talked a lot about her experiences during the war as she got older. She said once “we were hungry”. Not like today you say you’re hungry if you haven’t had a snack recently. They lived in the East End of London, no back gardens for growing veggies. They were properly hungry. By the way: this is one channel where I really enjoy reading the comments. Always so interesting and never abusive.

I love that story of Princess Elizabeth being uppity and Queen Mary’s remedy. The Brits can do that sort of thing better than anybody, the subtle ZAP.
