Welcome to The Vintage Read Show!
My name is Shauna and I upload 3/4 times a week, so make sure you subscribe and hit the notify bell to ensure you don't miss any.
Every Wednesday evening we meet up for A Gossip Before Bed, in our PJs and your favourite beverage.
Weekly there is A Snarky Snippet, in-depth book reviews, Premieres with live chat, and well-researched opinion pieces on current Royal events.
We have a lovely, friendly community here so join in via the comments and share your thoughts,
I look forward to reading them!
Shauna x Nigel Cawthorne's book about Ghislaine Maxwell is captivating, however, the dramatic opening was one of the best bits! It told how they tracked her down and the details of her dramatic arrest. I share that story with you in this video.

The whole Jeffrey Epstein/Ghislaine Maxwell saga is so bizarre, and I'm sure we've not heard more than a fraction of what went on. Such an interesting look at it, Shauna. Police 'takedowns' are always kind of high drama. I work in healthcare - we once had a quadriplegic patient in a long term care facility arrested for gang violence he'd been involved with prior to landing in a wheelchair. They did a full SWAT team stint - kicking in the doors, kevlar vests and all. Not sure where they thought a guy who could only operate his chair with his mouth was going to go - but it certainly created a stir in the place!

I find it odd that a woman living alone and in fear of her life would leave the door unlocked. I'm currently living alone and my house is locked up like Fort Knox - and I don't have Ms Maxwell's reason to think someone might lob in through the front door.

I have always locked my door when I am in but that may be because I lived for 10 years in a bedsit. If you didnt lock your door you may go back to find some lovely neighbour felt hungry and had radied your fridge! Didnt have much else to steal back then as I was just starting out.😂

The only thing I care about in this entire debacle is the cat. I'm glad the FBI had to go find the cat. It doesn't amaze me that the FBI's didn't check to see if the door was locked before they used the battering ram to knock out half of the front wall of the house. They are incredibly efficient like that. Keystone Kops efficient. Frankly I'm surprised she's still alive.

I would like to congratulate Shauna whose channel I came to know by chance. I consider her to be one of the best KZbinrs around: she always manages to bring up-to-date, profound content skilfully and objectively processed with great elegance and lightness👏The Vintage Read Show 💯is to me, one of the best channels around. Thank you so much Shauna for these wonderful videos. As per Ms GM, well The Cat Story is hilarious and made me laugh a lot when you think who they were arresting😹 Ms GM was in there (and not in France) because she probably felt protected there, just like, apologies for the comparison to the opposite, side (the good one), a Hero to Freedom of Speech like Julian Assage was arrested in the UK (he trusted the Brits too much and felt safe there), a mistake Snowden didn't make ;-). I think, they would have caught Ms GM in France as well. The interesting thing is that Ms GM is in jail for crimes we know but we don't know who the criminals are, to date. Interesting no ? Food 4 thoughts🤗😘

Shauna, I always find your takes on topics very interesting; here are two of my takes: 1). The subtitle of Nigel Cawthorne’s book on GM is The Fall of America’s Most Notorious Socialite. Yes she was that here in the States, where she moved to when she was already 30 years old; she was born in France and grew up in the Britain; she was a citizen of 3 countries. Not only JS’s untimely death, made her fear for her life, but I think that she also thought her father’s death was declared to be a drowning, and she always thought murdered also played a part. 2)About the FBI and all those cars and show of strength please look into the case that occurred in November 2022 of Mark Houck, who is a outspoken pro-lifer, where the FBI showed up in about 25 cars, 30 agents, armed and arrested and put him in shackles in front of his wife and seven children. An example of the DOJ and FBI acting in tandem under this Administration. I must add, reason for Edit, a Federal Jury in January 2023, acquitted him.

Hi Shauna, thank you for this one! Wow! I know she was sentenced to 20 years. So, with good behavior, she does 10 & spends 5 years on probation. Since she can’t be tried again, for the same crimes, I wonder if she’s writing a book?😁 There’s gotta be scores of “big shots” who are losing sleep over this, don’t you think? Do you think, she’ll serve even 10 years? Patty fm Philly PS ~ Please, don’t blast me for this! I have a different take on Prince Andrew. Oh, he’s a skank but not a convicted one and I don’t think his case would have gone to trial! The accuser, 17 at the time but now in her 30’s, is too old now to be a yacht girl. There’s no way she wanted anyone digging into the choices she made, beginning at 17. There are States, in my country’s South, where the legal age for a woman to marry is 13!! One at 15. And, a few at 16. These states, obviously, believe the age of consent is under 18. The trial, she was threatening Andrew with was, solely, about her. Andrew wasn’t accused of sex trafficking or any of Epstein’s other crimes. I think the accuser took advantage of the tsunami of the “Me, Too” victims movement, hitting the media. I know Epstein was a bottom feeder! But he sure had tons of photos with the US elite. Even a couple ex-Presidents, both visited that island. So, although I agree Andrew’s a skank; I just think the late Queen probably acted, too quickly, as far as the payment. I guess he deserves the punishment, just for hanging out with Epstein. The man was evil. (Long PS😁 Sorry)
@pollyparrot9447
@pollyparrot9447 11 ай бұрын
I believe that Prince Andrew valued Epstein for his money and connections, not for his unpleasant illegal activities. There were plenty of others who did too, though they all now pretend that they hardly knew the man. Andrew has had the nickname 'Randy Andy' since he was at school, yet only one person has ever accused him of wrongdoing, as far as I know.

He had dinner with him on house arrest for the separate unamed 14 year old!....he knew So the "act" wasnt what you presume was violent or abuse of power, but the fact is... V was interfered with... while she was a T Victim She got eppy, maxxy and bru....all behind bars...because she has evidence...you do realise there were 3 major actors Criminally, had 14 independent witness been questioned in court...pandy would be behind bars.. the US Attorney General said so....! So much has been hidden because of the wealthy players involved....why havent they been charged.... Because eppy made damn sure the clock run out....by the most reprehensable means... V was a child....stop victim blaming a child... If it was your 17 year old daughter, how would you feel? .... If eppy could con a man into giving him a 70 mill mansion, a kid stood no chance...no kid stood a chance.... Imho

That was one costly cat, poor thing. Something "prickles" when I see the inevitable line drawn from Maxwell to PA as on the book's front cover. Consider the big-name politicos, billionaire property developers, media moguls, professors, celebs and others who were frequent fliers and island guests who've been allowed to slither behind the curtain. Time is being used to erode their previous association. Was PA the fall-guy for this horror show? Intermittent, out-of-the-blue attacks throw him back into the spotlight. (I'm not a PA fan but something's awry.)

I wanted to update my original comment, but it seems to have disappeared (or not posted correctly). In that post, I pointed out that Ghislaiine Maxwell was arrested in “Bradford” NH, not “Bedford” NH (a 45 minute drive). Searching for “Bradford” isn’t easy, as in most publications it’s included in “Raymond” NH. Also, The Tuckaway is a Restaurant and Butcher Shop. I doin’t think there are living quarters there, but I suppose it’s possible. ( (By Barb, posting from Southern New Hampshire, USA)

Excellent and very interesting. Netflix has a series about her that is quite well done. Sexually predatory women are quite rare among criminals and often fall, like G, into the side kick category. 95% of sexual predators are men. Still G's father was a a charming criminal just like her boyfriend. Both supposedly took their own lives.

I know there's interest in the crime and arrest side of this, but if you've seen any interviews with Virginia Giuffre (one of his and Maxwell's many victims) you'll know that what these two were doing was absolute evil. As far as I'm concerned, Maxwell is just as guilty as he was in the whole awful mess. Escaping and living the good life in France? Ask Virginia Giuffre and those other poor souls about that possibility.

I said I was glad she was caught and the book I reviewed and recommended tells the whole story. I was telling the story of her arrest because it isn’t as well known. 😊

P.S. If anyone else, too, finally got around to reading the book, please tell me what is “off” about it--not just the dozens of grammatical errors and typos, but the whole “voice” of the book and sequencing of sentences is odd, not put together the way a writer writes.

Tinfoil?! I'd go for a box lined with lead. But even that doesn't work when you check your email. She wasn't smart enough to pull it off, but I think I'm not either. And who wants to live like that? I think I would have fled to France in her place. Getting to JE was relatively easy. Everybody knew where he was. She could have taken on an alternate identity and laid low. Dye the hair and eyebrows, wear glasses, have a different haircut, completely change wardrobe. Well, I would love a little cottage in the country and live a simple life. I don't know if she would.

You’d think airplane mode would work better than tin foil. Did they find the cat? Her client list needs to be revealed and they all need to pay for their crimes against kids. The reason it’s not being revealed is because there are a lot of powerful well known people on it. Makes me sick. Did you go see Sound of Freedom yet?
