I love how you took the risk with the red. It made the picture for me. Before it was just a seagull on a post, but the red added a wonderful dynamic and took it out of the ordinary.

Thank you for sharing this, I just love your pen&ink and watercolor tutorials. Beautiful work, even without the wash. I wish I could render in black and white like that. I have a hard time with hatching and cross hatching (who am I kidding, I have a hard time with overall shading :)) so to follow your process is really helpful.

Mark, you are indeed an amazing artist. Your tips on how to ink the bird were great. However, although I agree with you on using some kind of artistic freedom and interpretation of a reference, I would have made some other choices of colour than yours. I would have left the bird's chest white, and only added few layers of bluish grey, as plenty of value from the ink already are added. Then I would have been a bit more loyal to the reference pertaining to the sky - by painting it a light wash of blue. The orange and brown tones of the beak and the post are working great as contrasts, providing some kind of balance in the final rendering. Your depiction of the pole is really great - in fact amazing! I learnt a lot by seeing you doing this, as tree structures still are difficult for me to create. Besides from these comments it is indeed a great piece of art. Can't wait to give it a go. Thanks a lot, Mark.

Hi, I don’t know if you will see this as it’s an old video (seagull) I’m a new subscriber just checked in today. My question is this- How come your purple and yellow didn’t turn brown? I am new to watercolour and was told opposite colors always make brown and yet it seems yours did not. ??? What did you do differently? Thanks 😊
@elvanboratav59065 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. Please keep the original picture at a corner of the screen all the time. If you don't, it is not easy for people like me who are learning how to paint with watercolor to understand why you do what you do. For example, in this video I had to go to the beginning a number of times to see the original bird in order to understand why you preferred the purple and the yellows.
@kenk67145 жыл бұрын
OMG the bird and post is PERFECT. Awww the wash colors around the bird & post is wrong. I would of used light blue down to a pale yellow at post. Darn it look awesome in just pen.

Hello, I greet you from Venezuela. I think your channel is very interesting and to show you I subscribed. I would like to ask you the great favor that you insert the transcription of what you say into your videos! But not with the option of automatically generated subtitles when you are talking, no! A real transcription of the audio in your language. When we have the correct transcription of what you speak in the video we can easily give you the option of translating to another language and voila, everything is perfect! But if we translate to another language starting from the automatic generation of subtitles, the result is bad, very confusing, erroneous and absurd. Please, do it, so you'll have the whole planet enjoying your fascinating channel.
