I climbed this peak twice in my younger days. I'm 77 now and an invalid...racked with severe arthritis and cancer. Oh how I wish I could go back to Humphreys peak again. You young folk, get out and climb a mountain. It's something everyone should do at least once in their lifetime.

I’ve done this peak about 20 times while I lived in Flagstaff for most of my life. My first time I was 13 and we started in Locket Meadow. We headed up to the saddle between Doyle and Fremont and headed up Fremont. That ridge line was absolutely amazing! We then headed down the other side of Fremont. We were going to hike over Aggasiz but decided to follow the Weatherford trail instead. We continued to the top of Humphreys. I’ve also done Humphreys from Abineau Canyon. From the back end of the canyon it’s a steep hike up boulders all the way up.

Looks like you made it to Flagstaff, the beautiful Ponderosa Pine Forest in the desert. Looks like you had a beautiful day to hike up Humphreys.

Many (ahem ...) years ago, my wife and I loved this hike, except for one small thing: "Okay, THIS must be the summit! Oh, wait ... this ... oh, wait. Maybe this one's it ..." Yeah - but finally we reached 'the sign.' And you can be absolutely sure that we took the picture!

A very nice 3 hour 30 minute hike for me to the summit. Make sure you have well treaded shoes and also make sure you leave VERY EARLY. We still caught a slight sleet shower last week at the top.

Great video. We just got back home to Michigan from doing R2R2R and we saw this major snow capped peak in the distance on way to the North Rim and we said , Ohhh, we must check that out. So, we are headed back there in May to hike it.

Thank you for the informative video. I am hoping Humphreys will be climbable in May without snowshoes.

Excellent video, I'm looking to conquer Arizona's highest peak later this year! Would love to see you do a video hike of Brown's Peak (highest of the Four Peaks) east of Phoenix. That has a challenging chute near the top.

Just climbed it today. I hike a lot in the cascades where I live in Washington but we don’t have this elevation. It was the only reason this hike was hard

I've been binging a lot of your 14er guides planning out my 14er season for next summer, didn't think I'd be seeing you in my state! It's true that you can't summit Agassiz, but the Kachina Peaks Loop takes you near the base of it (I think) and I believe gets you on Fremont. Then drops down the East Side and works across the base of the range facing South, goes back to Snowbowl. I ended up not having time this summer because of my trips to Colorado, but I've heard from a lot of people that's a great hike.

Damn, good to know for the future. Figured there had to be a way around it but didn’t have the time or mental capacity to research it after the GC hike.

There are no trails to the top of Fremont. The Kachina loop ties into the weatherford trail. That trail takes you through the saddle between Doyle and Fremont entering the Inner Basin.

Dope video as always! Do you know where I can find more info on that traverse? You’ve inspired me to hit these peaks when I’m in Zona next month!

Thoughts on doing a summit hike in late december??
@TheVirtualsherpa2 жыл бұрын
I don't live in the area, so purely speaking on what I would anticipate conditions to be: snow, ice and cooler temps. If you are comfortable with using microspikes/crampons and a mountain axe I would think it should be doable. Looks like the snow bowl (ski resort under it) has received 38 inches so far this season so likely having avalanche knowledge in addition to snowshoes would also be helpful.

I plan on doing this hike with my dog probably in the Fall. Thanks for letting us know Arizona doesn’t do Karen’s. Nothing ruins a hike more than annoying bossy White suburban women nagging me about drinking more water and applying sunscreen. 😊
