As Japanese metal has taken over my playlist I have learned that understanding the language isn't an impediment to enjoying music. Seeing the voice as an instrument not solely as a delivery of a songs story. That is not to discount lyrics at all by saying that, just that music can be enjoyed still without knowing the meaning of it's lyricist's words.

“Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" ( which the male singer was using towards the end of the song ) refers to the seven musical notes in the Indian classical music tradition. These notes are equivalent to the Western musical notes "Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti" and are used as the foundation for creating melodies and ragas in Indian classical music. Each note is represented by a syllable, and they are often sung in sequence to practice vocal music and to tune instruments.

Praise to her Creator! Her face is fresh as a flower Is it her face in its brilliance or is it the moon itself? Her face is sheer poetry Her face has the beauty of the lotus flower Her face is an artist’s thought and also its translation Her face is both dream and realisation Her face is some magical tale Her face is both certainty and supposition Her face is like no other seen anywhere Splendidly luminous, dazzlingly radiant It is impossible to describe that beautiful beloved It is impossible to describe that beautiful beloved Praise to her Creator! Ustad (Sir/Teacher) Rahat Fateh Ali khan, is the most famous singer of Pakistan. He has recorded over 50 albums. He has toured the world, his family has a tradition of singing more than 400 years. He was born into a Punjabi family of Qawwals and classical singers in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. He is the most paid Pakistani singer. He is the son of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, grandson of Fateh Ali Khan and the nephew of legendary Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Rahat displayed an adoration for music from a very young age and was often found to be singing with his uncle and father, as young as three. From an age of seven, he was already being trained by his uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in the art of singing Qawwali..You can watch more of his songs. He is a living Legend.

the last section is Singing the names of notes just like do re mi... we have sa re ga ma pa dha ni sa So each note has particular note and name in a set of that thaat/octet in which the song is composed take base not as 'Sa'. So he can improvise because he remember the name of notes along with the right tone of each note. Its called Sargam and its really hard unless just cramming or remembering just for one song. But someone with classical training can easily improvise because their memory is more in sync with singing

@The Vocalyst : Do you know the best part here..? the last part of the song is an improvisation done without any early preperations. The sounds this singer makes are the notes in Hindi language. (C,D,E,F,G,A,B -> Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni). The wonder is they can sing the notes of any song without any preperation. Not only that they can add improvisations without making an odd note of the pattern. This is some thing next level of a perfect pitch. Also they are playing with the timing as well. They are divding one bar by 8,16 like wise and singing notes. That is why you are experiencing lots of things happening quickly. The amazing thing is it is happening in real time. If you ask him to sing a defferent improvisation, it's a peise of cake for them 😁. Most of the talented singers in India and Pakistan can do this and it is considered as an essensial achievement for a singer. There are battles like this as well. Just wanted to interprete a bit what were they actually doing out there rather than singing a song. Hope you can enjoy more than you thought. Collegue From Sri Lanka ❤

You should have the lyrics turned on. Rahat Ali Khan is a legend. Micro tones is part of the Indian/ Pakistani style of singing. This level of singing requires basically a life style of learning and commitment from a very young age with hours of training in a day. Momina is sitting in awe to be singing with this legend. These are the Masters of breath control and zooming up and down the scales as if they just having a yarn. Scats on steroid as someone once said. You concluding comments says it all. It is improvisation at the end.

This song was first performed by His uncle 'Nusrat fateh ali khan' and lyrics by 'Javed akhtar' in 1996 in their first collab album "SANGAM" This was beautiful collab of Legends of Both Pakistan(Nisrat fateh ali khan) and India(Javed akhtar). i remember i was teenager at that time, and when this album released, public of both countries went mad crazy, heel over toe for them. Thats the beauty of Music and art, which brought 2 nations together regardless of tensions between both countries.

I'm no singer but the way to look at these songs is more about energy & emotion than technicalities. Because that's the real "technique" a lot of Eastern (especially around India) musicians have.

FYI....This is Indian classical music. Pak and India share similar musical heritage. But you are listening to one of the rare songs, in which the poetry is even better than the composition....if you read the lyrics, you will first blush pink, then melt....he is singing about how beautiful his beloved, Afreen is thanking God for creating her.

The western style have octave running from C# to C# . Eastern has saptam meaning seven running from c#to B . However eastern have more in between transition as “kattha” which is similar but not to falceto

Your analysis of the art is as beautiful as you ❤ And yes, he’s a legend! Sad that we can’t have more of him in India (political reasons) The whole India loves Rahat Fateh Ali Khan 🎉

This fast music he did at the end, is called “Sargam” in Hindustani Classical music. They are singing pure classical notes in different arrangements. They do this so often (practice) when they are learning classical music for 10-15-20 years or so (or more) that it becomes second nature. Then they can belt them in their sleep, if they are good musicians. The Tabla ( Indian drums) players also have vocal notes to match the Tabla sounds, which are called “Bole”. Some of the musicians sing those notes as well ( of course fast as tabla sound is fast) which sound as if the Tabla was playing. Tabla players of course can also do that.
