I'm not Australian, nor have I ever heard that song. But this video really touched me. It isn't always about a perfect voice; sometimes storytelling takes over. This was excellent songwriting and storytelling. These lovely gentlemen were so sweet. They were more concerned about the future of other talent than stroking their own egos. What a class act.❤❤ God bless our cousins in the AU, with love from Oregon, USA. ❤🙏🇦🇺

As an Australian, I can tell you that many of us desperately want "I am Australian" to be our national anthem - and we have for a long time. Just like this crowd, when the song comes on, we all can't help but sing along. You can see the reverence we hold for the song when the crowd and coaches join in. @@SonGoku-tz9vt I remember that came up in the U.S. coverage of the 2000 Olympics; as I recall there were four choices but only remember three: God Save the Queen, Advance Australia Fair (which won), Waltzing Matilda, and one other-and it was put to a national vote…
@simonhj
@simonhj 5 күн бұрын
@@SonGoku-tz9vtThe Government did a public opinion poll in 1974 asking the population to vote on three songs Advance Australia Fair (the winner and the most appropriate), Waltzing Matilda (the runner-up - a bush ballad by the famous poet Banjo Paterson - we love it, and while it's a very Australian story, it's not about Australia as a nation and therefore wasn't really appropriate), and The Song of Australia (written by a German, and it's sounds like it). I Am Australian wasn't written until 1987. A more popular cover version from 1997 was used by the Australian republican movement in its campaign for an Australian Republic, and it has since been used at the Sydney Olympics and other sporting events and is taught in primary schools. So, it's popularity didn't really take off until the early 2000s, and since then there have been more calls to change national anthem because our current one doesn't acknowledge our First Nation's peoples.

I don't know the background on why "Waltzing Matilda" was chosen as the Australian national anthem, but in spite of the sentimental value and history, "I Am Australian" should be selected to replace it. It's a song that I think evokes pride in being Australian and is an incredibly unifying song. Good on ya mates! I hope it happens.

Clearly, Jess knew who it was from the start. To see the people who gave her her big break, made me tear up a bit. I don't know who The Bushwackers are, but they must have a big following in Australia.

I'm pretty sure Jess didn't know who was singing it until she turned around. ..... she was definitely surprised when she saw them lol. She reacted quickly to a few contestants during her time on the voice
