Voiceplay was, without a doubt, MADE for Disney Acapella covers, and this monstrous cover of Hellfire is evidence of that fact. I mean, after all, they have worked for Disney before...

Since you mentioned J being able to handle the bass notes, it seems he is not the only one. As I understand it, Eli has also done the bass line while Geoff sang lead during live shows. And Layne is the one doing it here before ‘Burn It’ except when he is actually singing.

before Layne's "burn it", there are also big parts there with Layne singing bass. the lowest parts are Geoff ofc, but Layne sang the majority of the bass there during Geoff's solo parts. 🙂 after "burn it" it's all Geoff.

Yeah Layne can cover some of the base and his throat bass is solid enough I would not be surprised if its actually a deep throatbass to hit the background parts while Geoff was lead

@@mityakiselev Geoff has a few notes in there (the lowest ones), but the majority of those are Layne. Both Layne, Eli and J are able to sing bass pretty well, they just don't have Geoff's rich tone and comfort (and ofc don't go quite as low as Geoff).

I mean the low ones are obvious and I know at the very start it is lane or if they were to perform live as well but some of the dooooo dooo after the really low part just before the burn it also just sound like Geoffs voice. Not about the pitch, just the sound of the voice imo. But then again I am not super good at picking out voices and I haven't heard Layne clearly on bass dooo often... so I am kind of likely to be wrong. Honestly I think it's fine either way. Because Layne has so many talents with the beatboxing and the whole arrangements and its awesome. At some point I figured that Laynes arrangements are the ones that imo show of Geoffs capabilities the most while at the same time still paying homage to everyone else in the group and that is soooo damn impressive. And also makes me think he's proud to show off what his friend(s) can do as well so I hope I will be forgiven for not knowing who it is in that case.😂❤

I really loved the instrumental section that Cesar did when the visual showed him with the air guitar. If he hadn't been "playing" I would have missed it.

You got the main facts already; just some trivia. The guard was Tony Wakim, former VP baritone, btw Layne and JNone. The voice hesrd was Eli though. Tony is co-owner of PattyCake, together with Layne and still an active VP familymember, behind the scenes. So 4 VP baritones in the same shot, Layne, Tony, Jnone and Cesar. Then 2 who can cover the baritone range, Geoff and Eli😅

Awesome analysis Ethan. “There is so much going on here I don’t know where to start” seems to be general consensus to for this song on reactions I’ve watched. Geoff and Layne have both been getting more “crunchy” in their arrangements (we won’t even talk about Valhalla Calling). It will be interesting to see how the show with Chicago goes.

I really think the subtitles help on this one to get a handle on the latin prhrases being sung behind the other lytics. Just so you know, VP will be appearing live with rock group Chicago in November. Both Eli and Layne have some bass capability. It's hard to know who carreid those bass notes or whether it was Geoff double tracked.

It’s not hard when they talk about it. 😏. It’s Layne up until he drops the beat, and Geoff double tracked after that. It was talked about in a recent video chat on their patreon.

They used to tour all the time until the pandemic. The last I heard they are going to be singing in a Chicago concert. My favorite part of this is when Geoff is asking for mercy for Esmeralda and himself and the guys in the background are singing in Latin.

Great reaction and breakdown. A few things that I have picked up after listening to it (and the karaoke track): The bell tones also suggest to me the church bells of Norte Dame. Layne’s percussion was crazy in this! The BGVs were also insane. They really accentuated the “church” feeling with the Latin and Greek. When Geoff is interrogating the guard, you can hear the BGVs singing “gy-psy es-caped” in the background. And then there are those crazy arpeggios Geoff was doing when J was being featured. Every one of them was absolutely stellar. And I love the Cesar’s air guitar. It reminds me of my son and his friends listening to music😂😂.

I loved Voiceplay's arrangement of this Disney song from Hunchback of Notre Dame. I had to go watch the movie again to get the context, since it had been too many years since I last saw it. It really emphasizes why Frollo is considered the most evil Disney villain.

I love how they incorporated "bell" tones for a Notre-Dame song lol also "Geoff has hit a B4 in chest previously which is tenor range" pepeLaugh oh no no no this guy lacks critical information, guys grab your popcorn also also I believe the leftmost key on a normal piano is A0, which thankfully he hasn't done yet as of date. He has hit a few juicy B0 subs though, which has officially made him one of the only two acapella group members ever to do that (the other one is an Egyptian kid by the name of Marwan Ayman, he's in the Bass Gang and he also hits down to B0 every now and then). I mean, some people do fry and growl notes lower than that but it just sounds like clicking at that point, Geoff's notes actually sound like music. Guy has literally the range of a 5-string bass guitar, that's insane.

@@tiffymcconkey Did he? I didn't register one... he did a B0 there for sure but I haven't noticed anything lower. He technically hit A0 as a growl in "Enemy" but it's not quite the same as a subharmonic. I haven't heard a true subharmonic below B0 in any acapella music, and even the B0 was successfully done by two guys: Geoff and Marwan Ayman. Maybe I'm missing someone?

Hi😃 I just recently found you 😃 I just wanted to point you to The Charismatic Voice on KZbin 😃 She's an opera singer and reactor, and she's also doing a lot of research into harsh vocals. So when you hear Geoff or especially Eli doing something gritty it doesn't immediately mean that they're hurting themselves. It all depends on how they do it. From what I heard Eli and the guys were worried that he was going to damage his vocalfolds with gritty highpitched belting. But he had an examination, I think a camera down his throat, and got the all clear. So his grit is coming from somewhere above his actual vocal folds and doesn't hurt😃 I guess it's like the subharmonics, you have to find the right way to do it😃 Five minutes to learn and a lifetime to master?😃The Charismatic Voice has really good explanations and some fascinating videos of Lorna Shore's singer Will Ramos doing some spectacular harsh vocals without hurting his clean singing voice at all 😮

On a full-sized 88-key piano, yes, that is correct. On certain smaller pianos/keyboards, the bottom note is a C2. I ended up confusing that with a C1. I tend to have moments like this, where I get confused easily. Sorry about that!
