Nice level of detail in your descriptions. I have this motor in my Freelander 2, which is suddenly pushing oil in to the water (but not vice versa). White smoke out the exhaust, water level drops quickly. After replacing oil cooler assembly, I now have to assume the problem lies with the head gasket. Can the head be removed with the engine still in the car? Are there any specials tools required? Can the timing be reset if I don't have access to the LR tools to retain the timing?

You can remove the head with engine in the car no problem. You will need the tools to set up the timing no way around it.

So I've tried to find which way the cylinders are numbered on this engine. Convention would say it's from the right where the timing cover is, but you numbered them from the left? I'm trying to chase down a cylinder 3 misfire and swapped coils on what I though was #3 but would be #4 if you count from left to right. It would make sense since the older engines had the timing covers on the left. Never mind, got further into the video. thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Yes because this engine design they did not have enough room so the belt and the timing chain was moved to the driver side but cylinder number 1 stayed on the passenger side.

What exactly does the vvt do, or how does it work exactly by allowing more oil to flow past it? I've got a S80 that is making noise like valves rattling which sounds like it's coming from the oil trap or the exhaust cam but it's intermittent so I'm trying to determine what's making it do it. I don't understand how it can sound terrible today then in the morning sound perfectly fine. I'm guessing it's something to do with the variable valve timing. And I'm sorry to be asking questions here but I can't really find much information that's been helpful anywhere else. This is a terribly designed engine I must say lol! And thanks for any help!

There is nothing holds the fuel line to the rail other then the 3 bolts that hold the rail once you get them out the rail comes out and the fuel line comes out of the rail.

@@TheVolvoGuy haha got brave and started prying gently thinking if i could at least get the injectors out then i could rotate the rail and see how the fuel line disconnected. The whole thing popped off like you said. The only bad thing is the injectors left 4 of the 6 o rings in the head haha. Thank you for your quick response i really appreciate it.

Before I go any further on this Land Rover I’m working on I hope you can answer this question for me. Is there any place coolant can mix with oil on these motors other than headgasket? My LR2 is mixing coolant and oil but not showing any other signs of a headgasket. Pulled the plugs and the pistons aren’t cleaned off truck doesn’t overheat and there’s no smoke. So before I pull this head I’d like to confirm there’s no where else coolant could milkshake. I’m not familiar with the 3.2s as I am with the jaguar motors that are in most rovers.

Yes there is a place where it can mix I have fixed many of them.

Under the intake in the oil filter housing it's an engine oil cooler. In the cooler there is coolant and engine oil chambers and they not supposed to mix. A hole in the cooler would leak coolant in the engine oil or the other way around.

What I have done before is removed both coolant rubber hoses that connect to the cooler and put a loop so the coolant would just run in the loop run the engine watch for oil coming out from the pipes where the coolant hoses would be connected. It might time some time with the engine running before you see oil.

There is a lot of tools needed to press some of the parts off and back on and to replace the bearing, technically speaking you can not replace the entire unit since the housing is married to the block.

Hi, Another off topic, sorry. I have an oil leak from underneath the engine mount, on the passengers’s side, the one that goes above cylinder 1. Volvo said it’s the rubber camshaft plugs which need replacement. Is it a straight forward job to replace them or I need any special tools or I have to remove the camshaft cover?

I’m just about to put the head back on my 3.2 head…just looking up the head bolt torque instructions in VIDA and it says 45nm stage 1 and 45nm stage two followed by some angle torque…45nm x 2….is they a typo???

No not at all, once you do the first 45nm the bolt you torque fist it will get little lose and you will notice that when you do it. So they have you do it 2 times to make sure it's all even and then you do the 90 degrees and then the 180 so total of 4 stages 1st 45nm 2nd 45nm 3rd 90 degrees 4th 180 degrees

The vacuum at the oil cap is not very noticeable if you have a lot of vacuum that means you have a problem. The best way to check it is to remove the dipstick while the engine is running and put a vacuum gauge on it and see how much it pulls it should be around -1.7 kpa.

Hello, I'm doing the head to my 3.2 B6324S. I changed machinery shop before completing the work, and the first one already disassembled the head. Now I have 2 different types of springs mixed: 12 are thinner and marked in yellow/orange, 12 are thicker and marked in red. I need to identify which are of the exhaust and which of the intake. The new shop says that usually the red and thicker ones are of the exhaust. The previous shop that disassembled the head remember the opposite (in their memory, the yellow and thinner springs were of the exhaust). I need an advice before reassembling.. do you have an hint? @@AlessioOrlandi1 so exactly what I thought the intake and exhaust valve springs are the same. If you have 2 different size springs they gave you back the wrong springs. Volvo showing the same part number for both intake and exhaust.

So you know that little metal flat piece that is on the bottom of the oil cap? Well that broke off and slipped into that vent on the filler neck... And per this video is sitting somewhere around the intake cam... Any suggestions?

Good day everyone, i have v60 t6 with b6304t4 engine with an issue on cold start there is knocking noise like ticking (sound similar to broken hydraulic compensator) i can locate where it comes from from the inrake under the valve cover near 1 and 2 cylinder. Could tappet provoke such nois or it something else. Note: after like 1-2 minute after cold start, that ticking noise completely gone.

No if you only removing the end plug all you need to do is put a hole in the middle of it and pop it out you will have to install a new one. That is the way you remove them.

Just wanna know the positions of the innet and exhaust cam shaft (where the lags will faces), how it's placed before applying the timing chain

@@salamisulaimon4075 I show that in the video the tool gets attached to the camshaft on the back side of the motor and then the crank shaft tool locks the crank in place then you put the cam pullies on put the timing chain on get the tensioner tight the torque the cam gears bolts

So if I have oil on the spark plugs, does that mean I need to replace those Spark Plug Tube seals? #30677907
