Super Comanche 410/45 long colt range review

I’ve been trying to find one of these for 3 years - they don’t appear to be made anymore. So, I just picked up a Rossi Brawler today (they were just released last Thursday). Very similar with a few differences. The Brawler is also 14” OAL but with a 9” barrel. No barrel end pieces. Lighter at 36.8 oz. It’s also a .45 Colt / .410 (3” chamber). Has a picatinny rail for optics but there’s a non-adjustable rear & front sight. MSRP is $239.99, got mine for $212. Thanks for the review Al!

I owned one for about 18years and love it.I don't shoot 45 long colt much do to the price. But mine loves the 410 slugs.I got these guns when I held a FFL license and got them at my cost around $80.00 back then.great gun to have in your gun safe and to play with.

I tell ya what Rossi/Taurus should bring back. Heritage - maker of the Rough Rider - made a big, ol' single action hogleg revolver in .45/.410. The grips were ugly as homemade crap but were probably comfortable and controllable (I never actually got to hold one much less fire one to be sure of that). Heritage only made them for a short time before Taurus bought Heritage and, apparently, immediately discontinued them. I guess they saw them as too much competition for the Judge at a lower price. Personally, though, although there would certainly be some crossover I think the two would appeal to different markets.

Pretty good performance for a combo 45 Colt/410ga. These were relatively inexpensive guns when they were available years ago. I see Rossi recently launched something similar to this called the Brawler.

@@ab-cn7ki I'm sure the Rossi will end up at a very reasonable price once the initial rush is over. From what I've seen so far it appears to be a good shooter. I think it would make a good snake gun or a good gun to take small game from the treestand while bow hunting (where legal) I get a lot of small game right next to my stand and this should anchor them

My Dad got this for my birthday and we took it to shooting ranges for test and lot people ask me about it? Mostly I use Golden Bear 410 gauge 3 inch buckshot and 45 long colt hollow point red tip and I think best thing go hunting with it!

I've had one for 25 yrs. &, it shoots 410 Winchester # 8 AA trap loads the best @ 30 yds. Very tight patterns, I've taken a lot of grouse with mine. The 410-barrel attachment has to be in if you want good patterns, the screw in choke has straight rifling in the tube to stop the shot charge from spinning. With out it you get a pattern at 20 feet that all over the target. I don't shoot the 45 colt much but when I have it shoots pretty good, but POI is lot lower on the target. It's a cheap gun you can tell it's cast frame, the trigger I worked so it's shootable for me. It does go bang every time. LOL

I’ve been using this gun for cottontails over beagles since 2006. It does the job well with 3’’ #5 shot out to 30 yds. The magic to this guns exceptional pattern is in the choke, if you look in it you’ll see 4 bars and what they do is stop the shot cup from spinning right before it leaves the barrel making it pattern like a smooth bore. I think the advantage with the super Comanche is the fact there is a choke that helps stop the wad from spinning and it patterns the shell slightly better. I wish the brawler came with that as an option, but I still Love mine. I don’t use the iron sights on my brawler, I use a bushnell TRS and it works great.

Good Going, Al. These have been made for a lot of years and they must have made improvements. I don't remember the inserts at all but I do remember some folks forends falling off under heavy loads. I bet the quality controls have improved over the years. Weren't these made in one of the South American countries? Anyhow, we appreciate your revisiting this one. I believe it is a lot of fun.

That .410 load shot a really good group for 20yds. I wonder if that pistol would be good for shooting hand tossed clays ... maybe with 8 or 9 shot. Stay safe and out of that weather that I've seen forecast for your neck of the woods.

Good video. I had one years ago they are a good gun for the price. The first ones that were imported had a ten-inch barrel and a bead sight just like a shotgun. They were made in 22 long and 22 Winchester magnum also.

have had one for years . Could never get much accuracy out of the 45. But the 410 is a hell of a snake killer. At 2 or 3 yards it will put the whole pattern from 7.5 shot in the lid of a coffee can. A snake does not have a chance of surveil. I keep it in my John Deere gator in the summer.

I love mine. Call it the "hand canon".Mine is nickle plated and shooting a slug through the modified choke is highly accurate. Shot shell is good out to 25-30 yards. I only use .410 shot shell in mine and slugs. Love to get another, but I don't think they make them anymore...

Because I would like to purchase the 357 magnum And the nickel version is pretty rare. You hardly ever see one in nickel. Just recently bought one , came with a 410 choke. Currently looking for a 45 but so far that's a pretty hard animal to find , but I'm patient I know there's one out there somewhere. Noticed the the rifling of barrel being spiraled for the exception of the choke which has a straight cut instead of being smooth . Thought for sure that would affect its accuracy. But to my surprise it's very accurate. Looking forward to finding the 45 choke and trying it out . Ugly but beautifully durable, dependable and tough . Thanks for the video it was very informative .

You can find these for around 200 bucks. Mostly used. In local shop around here from time to time. I don’t think they produce this one anymore. I’ve been checking into that, but this one is surprisingly accurate. And has got a pretty good range. With buckshot. No problem at 20 yards. And the 45 long colt. I have hit accurately at 45 yards. The adjustable sights really help. They have full windage and elevation sights. Let me know if you get a chance to pick one up. I would love to hear from you. I have had one in the boat for about 3 years I LOVE mine ,, it is the perfect snake gun and with the 45LC as a alternative for something bigger .. I have taken dozens of squirrels with 6shot and it makes for a nice shoulder carried back up gun . I like mine and would not part with it but, I have to warn ya'll parts are not easy to find so take care because replacement parts are a little scarce at times.

You could find these little single shot pistols at one time just about anywhere. But now they are getting hard to find. I don’t think the company is producing these anymore. But from time to time they will appear in local shops. At least around here. I picked this one up used. But in good shape. And for a reasonable price. I think it was a couple hundred bucks. Would someone please post the SAAMI specs for 45 'long' Colt. I can't find them. They list the 45 Colt but not a 'long' Colt.

The 45 colt is actually a little shorter than the 45 long colt. If I’m not mistaken. Some of the old breakdown revolvers. Back in the day. Would not handle the long colt because the cylinder was to short. I am no expert on ballistics. But this is what I understand. I hope this helps in someway my friend👍👍👍👍

That is a small downside to this pistol. But without the insert. You wouldn’t have the ability to shoot 45 long colt or 410 gauge But someone was just saying. That he only shoot 410 Gauge shot shells. And for a single projectile. He uses 410 gauge slugs. That way you would not have to change the inserts. That would probably be the way to go. If they made it to handle .454 Casull loads,, 45LC and 410 might be better as long as you cleaned it between separate cartridges to avoid a lube/powder ring in bore.

This one does have a threaded barrel but I’m not for sure how that would work because one of the caps or for the 45 long colt and one of the Caps are for the 410 shot shells. I had terrible results with 2 of them. They woud not fire 45lc at all. Only the 410, this was about 10-15 yrs ago

I heard that my friend. I have not had any issues with light strikes. With the 45 LC. That possibly could’ve been an issue that they resolved. On some of the first runs of this pistol. @@TheWalkWithAl you too. Both of these firearms were sent back to the factory by the outdoor store. Their in house gunsmith told me they quit selling them Bc of how many were coming back. The stainless for whatever reason had more failures than the sollid black . I had tried both. I really liked the setup as we trail ride alot so i could blast cottonmouths with the 410 or try to pop a pig with the 45

I like old fashioned guns like this. I kind of hate I spent money on my new fangular stuff. The guys in the gun store always talk me out of buying old stuff or single shots. There cool to me. And you really only need one shot or 2 if you know what your doing. Unless your in some kind of heated conflict against a thousand men. Which I doubt will ever happen.

Fair enough but I'd argue that the reason this is interesting and unique is because it's a pistol. Single shot rifle form guns are kind of boring in my opinion, if you are going to make a gun full size, make it a repeater. It's difficult to make a 410/.45 in the pistol format repeating and I know the judge exists but there are limited options in the market for 410/.45 pistols, so any new ones are welcome as far as I'm concerned.

I think it would be a good survival, backpack gun. I would really like to see the 410 ammo. Back on the market it is really hard to find in this area In the shops. The Rossi brawler is not recommended for slugs. However, the super Comanche is. It actually shoots them pretty accurately. I have actually tried them in the Rossi Brawler and actually completely missed a 2‘ x 3‘ ft target. It is real inconsistent with the rifle slugs. That’s probably why you’re not see any videos using the rifle slugs. I hope this give you some kind of answer to your question. I think you for watching my friend. the brawler will not come close to the Super Comanche at 20 yards because it is rifled , I know I have one .... just saying....

I’ve been trying to pick one of those. To do a comparison. They are super hard to find right now. On most that they are not available. I’ve tried it some of the major gun shops. Here in Kentucky without any luck. But I have got reports from ones who have had a chance to pick up one. And said the super Comanche. Would hold a better group. But I would still like to get one a try. How did the 45 long colt? Do for accuracy and at what distance if you don’t mind saying. I really appreciate you watching my friend.
