Tail Fan

Chris from the Wandering Bull LLC will show you how to make a tail fan out of turkey feathers. He demonstrates how to set the feathers symmetrically and decorate the fan with colored hackles and wrapped deer skin on the handle.

Would it be historically accurate to make a fan from unpainted bronze turkey feathers, or would this only be made using eagle feathers? Thank you so much for your videos! I've found myself referring to them as I complete projects and recommending them to friends.

Hello thanks for watching! I don't think you can use this handle with out glue. You could use another glue, it does not need to be hot glue. Our wing fan can be done without glue. Here is the link to that one kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGGviaiOZqutj7c Chris does use glue on this one also but you don't have to.

You need to be indigenous and enrolled into a federally recognized tribe to possess eagle feathers in the states, the law is a lil bit less strict in Canada, I’m indigenous and a status card carrier so I can and do have a eagle tail fan, plus I dance at pow wows

Hey, thanks for watching! There are many ways of making a fan, this is the method I use. Another popular method used today is with Bondo. Another way would be to use the whole tail of the bird and wrap leather around the bone covering about three inches of the feather quills and sewing it together.
