I'm watching this in August 2019. A few days ago there was 2 mass shootings that have people on high alert in shopping areas or anywhere else you can find groups of people gathering. You can't help but feel that somewhere along the way the world has finally lost it's mind. You have kids inspired by other kids shooting up schools & each other. I think that's why watching this video made me aware of the good that still exists in our world . It comes at a time where many believe good is now extinct & something that's thought of in the past tense. The scouts & their leaders at Little Sioux should be acknowledged for their exceptional courage & bravery that day. You actually could feel a sense of calm they had in the midst of living thru a nightmare. My heart & prayers goes out to the families of those scouts who lost their lives. That being said, watching this gave me a renewed faith that humanity still stands a chance at survival. There's still good left in the world sometimes you just have to look a little harder for it, but if you ever need a quick reminder & some proof of it just watch this video. Believe me, you will get a lot more from it than learning about how to survive a tornado & the aftermath.

I think we are exposed to the problems of the entire world every day, all day and some tragedies get more attention than others. This constant 24/7 bath of negativity affects our nervous system, and mental health. Read history books, and you’ll see there has been mass murder, famine, plague, wars..... we ironically live in some of the safest times, and in the safest part of the world. But the TV doesn’t want you to believe that. I think humanity will endure when we turn our TVs off and have our neighbors over for dinner, and talk to old people again. I’m glad this video restored your belief in humanity. YES, there is still a lot of good in people. There is still hope, love and kindness in the world. If it is in us, then it exists. Peace to you.

I was in boy scouts at the time at summer camp in Indiana and we got word of this tragedy, we lowered the flag to half staff and had a moment of silence for the 4 scouts and their families, never will forget.

I was a scout at BSA Camp Cedars on the Nebraska side of the river when this hit. Was absolutely terrifying and we knew we were in for a long night when the clouds turned green and began to swirl. My troop was nearly ready to throw everything in vehicles and get out after the shelter they put us in had live wires hanging out of a fuse box. Was an absolutely insane day and a very dark next morning.

Coming from a 12 volunteer disaster responder these young men did admirably. They got up, checked themselves and their teammates and got to work doing what they could, triaging and attending to the wounded till backup arrived. These are the kind of people i'd be happy to have at my side on deployment. Also props to the scout leader on his work teaching these young men and his triaging of the situation as well. Not easy to find you lost someone then quickly move on to the next victim for alot of people.

I live just south of tornado alley which means I get a basic front row seat to the yearly storm season in tornado alley. What I've learned is, you couldn't catch me in tornado alley without a tornado shelter. That is not a string of fate I'm willing to mess with.

I remember this night, I was at boy scout summer camp at Sid Rich Scout Camp near Bridgeport, Texas. For us it was very clear and calm night. The group I was in was doing a wilderness survival trip that night which involved sleeping outside with just a sleeping bag for protection. So hearing about this really struck close to home for us when we heard about it the next day.

I had a lot of bad experiences in scouting, the troop I had been in when I became a boy scout a few years before in Ohio was extremely negligent about everything including tornado safety. The most obvious example was at Camp Freelander near Loveland, Ohio in 2007. We had a tornado warning during summer camp and I was at an orienteering event with other troops and I got (by virtue of the buddy system) sent to another troops camp due to the worsening weather. When the tornado sirens sounded we all bolted to the shelter, at the time it was the fastest any of us had ever ran. When I finally got back to my own troop, my dad (one of the higher ranking scout leaders) wasn't all that concerned, and none of the troop had taken shelter. It bothered me then and even more as I got older as my brother was among those who didn't take shelter. I left scouts in 2009, and I don't miss it.

Man this is all too surreal for me, josh was one of the kids in my troop maybe a year older than me. This whole thing was so devastating to everyone in the community. my troop camped at little sioux like a couple times a year and the place really felt different after. I hope his dad and family are doing well this was really terrible and i wish nothing but the best for them. The service was beautiful and the whole troop was there to help support the family and mourn the loss of a brother/friend.

These scouts’ leaders should’ve been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. The training they provided without question saved lives and minimized the recovery time required for the seriously injured. I hope if I ever end up seriously hurt, it happens to be nearby a scout troop like this one.

I remember when this happened, my son was in boy scouts at the time, we are in Florida and we can even get tornados here so his troop had a meeting to talk to the boys about what to do if one comes and the boys came up with an emergency plan if they are camping

I was a Girl Scout, and watching this just made me cry. A little, it’s terrible that they had to die in something like that. I was a Girl Scout when I was about 12 or 13, from South Carolina originally. Then when I was 15 I encountered my first real tornado. I mean I’ve encountered tornadoes before but nothing that could compare to El Reno 2013. I was staying at my aunts house, my aunt and my mom and dad had went to a Walmart in a different county, I was out of school for the summer thankfully and I had asked if I could stay at her house to watch some TV and she said yes that would be fine. Little did I know around 3 PM or some thing like that an EF5 tornado would actually literally rip her house apart. My mother called me from the county she was in I could hear the fear in her voice. Because apparently they had switched over to emergency broadcasting. To warn everyone that is going to El Reno to stay out of the way, I remember that because I’ve never heard her so scared in my life. She told me my aunt said to grab the cat get the cat carrier from the garage because the cat it was a kitten grab a blanket from her laundry room and go outside to the cellar, and at the time I did not know why she was giving me those instructions. And then about five minutes after I sit down the EAS come on, and at first because I’m from South Carolina I thought that it was the Cry Wolfe affect. Then it came on again about 10 minutes later saying you need to be in your tornado shelters right now because it was a live voice I actually realized the gravity of the situation before it actually hit. So I grabbed everything my purse my jacket and my shoes and the cat and I ran outside to her storm cellar and as soon as I got out the door? I stood right there and to my right I could see it. What looked like a big gray cloud was this monster tornado and as soon as I got into the cellar it hit directly. Like I had about 30 seconds at most to get into shelter. I just remember looking over and it was about two or three streets away. And then boom there it was. So all of my skills were put to test. Survival skills as a southerner and as a former Girl Scout. Because as soon as I got out of the shelter after everything was done and over I started helping look for people. But then I got sent to a hospital I was not injured (maybe it wasn’t a hospital I could be wrong) because I was a minor. And for some reason they did not want me to be alone or get injured without my parents. It was about 12 to 14 hours before I seen my mother again. I have never seen her so scared in her life. She had five kids before me, and she was definitely the most frightened I have ever seen her. She was just happy that I was alive. And thankfully I was not injured. Can’t speak for other people but as soon as I realized it destroyed 2 elementary schools my heart just dropped.It made me feel really bad. But I couldn’t help it. I wish I could have though. So the Camp guy is right it is not some thing that you can easily forget.Especially knowing that people were killed in something like this. To a lot of people? That may not make any sense but you have to experience it to understand it sadly and I hope that you don’t. But hoping is not some thing that will change a thing in mother nature‘s wrath.

Ive been through 3 hurricanes. Katrina, Charlie and Irma. Had a house torn down with 1st hurricane. 2nd no water or electricity for a month. Last one couldn't even get out my house (blocked in with no electricity or water for 2 almost days and have 4 kids)

I was at the scout ranch a few years later. 2011 maybe?? There were still trees down everywhere along the path, but there were already new sirens installed and a memorial where the Red shelter was. I'm not remembering if they were building, had built, or planned to build new shelters, but I feel like there was some sort of plan in place.

I used to work at camp little Sioux after the tornado hit. They had built 2 storm shelters, thinking about a third to add at the lake. It's surreal to think that this is aired on the weather channel and you know and worked there

I reported the rotation, took some pictures and hurried back to our farm NW of Little Sioux to call the weather service and local Tv stations. I told my wife to go to the basement and I went to the front porch because I thought the main funnel would pass slightly north of the house.My wife joined me on the porch as all heck broke loose .Rain, hail, tree limbs and power lines cut the visibility to near zero as a south east wind suddenly switched to the west and then north west. We saw the shadowy funnel in the field north of us. Since we had no power we did not know of the tragedy NE of us. The wind destroyed half of a center pivot and left the rest intact. Had the tornado moved a half mile north or south those boys would have lived.

Recently I read a news story about a trailer park that notified residents shortly before a severe tornado warning that they would not open the building that they would normally go to during a tornado. I was absolutely shocked. What evil people could do this? What’s worse is that they won’t have any repercussions because they are grandfathered in by some law. Just evil monsters.

Iowa has some weird weather! Don't get many twisters! We're kinds on the outer edge of tornado alley though! My condolences go to those families who lost there loved ones! Im surprised they didn't have a shelter in that cabin not like its not above sea level and could of installed one

Looks like the background music from 7:15 onwards up until 9:15 is different. I don’t remember hearing it from the original airings, especially the rock music. I don’t think it fits perfectly with the sequence. In my opinion, I enjoyed the original soundtrack that played during that sequence.

I never went to girl scouts, i still wish i did but i was to busy to do it. [i was swimming and my childhood wasnt the best.] im always so impressed with scout kids. they have really good skills.

I’m a Florida-based guy, so there is no underground shelters. Florida doesn’t get big tornadoes like the one that hit the Little Sioux Ranch. I bet Florida probably has some storm safety.

I was in Philmont in 2015 and I remember the story of the deadly flash flood. That was a hard morning. Also, I remember this episode from when it aired and some of the music is different now. 7:13 the rock guitar is in poor taste.
