Teachings can only be directed to the ‘me’ who wants liberation. Apparently in my case the teachings were useful to come to see that all seeking is hopeless. Eventually there may be a recognition that the me who’s looking doesn’t exist. No teaching will ever bring about realisation, only perhaps lead to a dead end and exhaustion. It may then be realised that the search is hopeless, that the search perpetuates the separation. This seems to bring about an energetic shift where it is realised that there’s no me, no search and nothing to find, only what’s happening. It’s completely ordinary and utterly obvious!

Ler's express that more precisely. The mid-brain gyri are the seat of neuroception, the essential feedback mechanism to the limbic, reporting on what the rest of the cogntive cortex is up to. That creates a distinction between awareness and perception of awareness. What we're looking for is the same in neurotheology, into what Bruce Duncan Perry praises me for, the identification of transception, awareness of the intangible (I'm doing slightly more than working off Maslow's transpersonal, but it's the same domain). This may be more closely linked to the limbic, as accessing that requires suppression of the cognitive ego.
@juliejordy45292 жыл бұрын
What part of the brain’s neural network is active when we think? When we have thought, feeling, sensation, perception? Not so much those. My real question is about Belief. Is belief activated by limbic system? Which is precisely what?
@JelMain2 жыл бұрын
@@juliejordy4529 I think I must open with a Statement of Interest of some weight. In 2012, the team I was part of won the Nobel Peace Prize for its work, partly in the creation of the Peacemaking concept, partly for our delivery, and much of that was through me (albeit not of me). In response to your real question, I'd answer no. Belief is a communicative experience, and few get to experience it. Being a God-botherer is not communication. Being God-bothered is - not that I'm complaining in the least! Perhaps I should rephrase your question, if you'll forgive me, into "How do we perceive the intangible?" Firstly, please look at Andrew Newberg's introduction to neurotheology on here. I'm far more results-driven, and here, I'll open out Reiki as the epitome of third-sector medicine. I've tested as a Reiki Master, rather to my surprise, as I've never studied it: it's core is meridian sensitivity, and can be heavily augmented with empathy and transcendence. The core is where it connects to Dr Newberg's work, in that the sensitivity to the meridians indicates it's in the nervous system in a way we don't yet comprehend, but may be an extension of polyvagal theory. Non-believers can power it so a very limited extent from their own resources. We cannot at this point say which is exactly what. The closest I've got so far is to extend Elaine Aron's High Sensitivity Thesis massively at the top end, in the empathic. I've a huge IQ driving what would pass as ESP - but I'm not claiming it for myself. To have delivered six months work in structuring a major policy document, accurately anticipating a question coming my way, is seen by Harley Street as hyperperception. To me, it was simply a certitude based om experience that the question was coming my way. I've likewise completed Gandhi's work, and much more, some of which I can talk about, much I'm not allowed to. Obviously I'm leaving far more out than just that, mostly because I don't want to confuse you. Ask away!

" I have heard about Lin Chi, a Zen master. As he was sitting one day in his hut someone came to see him. The man who came was angry. He may have been fighting with his wife or with his boss or something - but he was angry. He pushed open the door in anger, he threw down his shoes in anger and then he came, very respectfully, and bowed down to Lin Chi. Lin Chi said, “First go and ask forgiveness from the door and from the shoes.” The man must have looked at Lin Chi very strangely. There were other people also sitting there and they started laughing. Lin Chi said, “Stop!” and then said to the man, “If you don’t do it then leave. I will have nothing to do with you.” The man said, “It will look crazy to ask forgiveness from the shoes and from the door.” Lin Chi said, “It was not crazy when you expressed anger. Will it now be crazy? Everything has a consciousness. So you go, and unless the door forgives you, I am not going to allow you in.” The man felt awkward but he had to go. Later on he became a monk himself and became enlightened. When he became enlightened, he related the whole anecdote and he said, “When I stood before the door, asking forgiveness, I felt awkward, foolish. But then I thought that if Lin Chi says so, there must be something in it. I trusted Lin Chi, so I thought that even if it was foolish do it. In the beginning whatsoever I was saying to the door was just superficial, artificial; but by and by I started to get warm. And Lin Chi was waiting and he said that he would watch. If the door forgave me, only then could I come in; otherwise I had to stay there until I had persuaded the door and the shoes to forgive me. By and by I became warm. I forgot that many people were looking. I forgot about Lin Chi - and then the concern became sincere and real. I started to feel the door and the shoes were changing their mood. And the moment I realized that the door and the shoes had changed and that they are feeling happy, Lin Chi immediately said that I could come. I had been forgiven.” This incident became a transforming phenomenon in his life because for the first time he became aware that everything is really a crystallization of consciousness. If you cannot see it, it is because you are blind. If you cannot hear it, it is because you are deaf. There is nothing the matter with the things around you. Everything is condensed consciousness. The problem is with you - you are not open and sensitive. This technique says, this consciousness exists as each being, and nothing else exists. Live with this notion. Be sensitive to this and wherever you move, move with this mind and this heart - that everything is consciousness and nothing else exists. Sooner or later, the world will change its face. Sooner or later, objects disappear and persons start appearing everywhere. Sooner or later, the whole world will be suddenly illumined and you will know that you were living in a world of dead things just because of your insensitivity. Otherwise everything is alive - not only alive, everything is conscious. Everything deep down is nothing but consciousness. But if you leave it as a theory, if you believe in it as a theory, then nothing will happen. You will have to make it a way of life a style of life - behaving as if everything is conscious. In the beginning it will be an ‘as if’, and you will feel foolish, but if you can persist in your foolishness, and if you can dare to be foolish, soon the world will start revealing its mysteries."

This is a great story, love it. I agree "everything is conscious" but it doesn't necessarily mean there is a universal or infinite consciousness. Just as another model, consider that energy, which is defined as the capacity to do work, is itself sentient/conscious. Since everything is made of up energy (even matter), everything is conscious but it doesn't mean there's a universal or infinite consciousness. It's just a bunch of energy/consciousness. In other words, it's unclear to me still if the door and shoe are the SAME consciousness with individual localisations or just individual localisations of different consciousnesses ("globs of energy") that "appear the same." I don't see how any human being can resolve this since what we know personally is all we have (and this knowing is what Spira uses to reject materialism or panpsychism).

I'm channelling something which knows stuff I don't, like a question of strategic importance which would be asked in my daughter's presence six months in the future. I therefore had the answer ready, prepared in a state of academic neutrality, nobody else knew I'd done it. It was a full and complete answer, four months work prepared from the questioner's viewpoint in as many hours. Your hypothesis is a minimalist solution. Something I discovered from my numinous experiences is that what we call 'soul' or 'consciousness of self' is memory: memory that is 'attached' to the atoms that make us up. This memory is engraved on the cyclical groove that each atom bores through time and space (the fluctuations of each atom making the grooves) much like the grooves on an old phonograph record. In this way 'karma' is made, 'reincarnation' and a collective 'universal consciousness' - it is the hypocampus acting as a needle on those grooves of memory etched into time and space by the atoms you have inherited (and continue to inherit each day) as well as making further grooves with each atom that passes through you. This is how we are (and everything in the cosmos is) 'immortal', interconnected and, when that atomic memory is able to reflect upon itself, 'god'.
@RubenCastilloGomez2 жыл бұрын
And whoever (or whatever) is reading this, or contemplating this numinous experience, is just "a memory". Really? 🤔
@eyeofgnosis5582 жыл бұрын
@@RubenCastilloGomez Yes, a memory of the millisecond since you read/contemplated the experience (i.e. consciousness of the self can be described as the 'ego' which is a significant part of the memory of the 'Self'). In this sense the ego is observing the Self and the Self, when experienced in the present moment, allows consciousness to be aware in the present in a way the ego never can (because ego is memory) - hence facilitating the universe to experience itself. Here is what is often called 'higher consciousness, but can be more accurately described as consciousness in the only moment that ever exists - the now. This is why those who have such experiences a. can't really describe the experience in words, because language is a tool of the ego (and although they and I have tried afterwards, it will never match the experience), b. realise their thinking, speaking, problem solving ego is not all of them and is in fact a very small part of themselves (i.e. "I think therefore I am" is a maxim of the ego-illusion that it is the self just because it can 'think') and c. how the universe is able to realise itself through this 'higher' consciousness, because it can only 'exist' in the present. However, even this will eventually become 'karma' because one cannot stay in that moment forever and we rely upon the ego to survive (and we have a habit of memorising this as a species). Whilst ego dissolution often occurs during such experiences as we realise our consciousness of the self is not all of our consciousness and is not our 'Self', the ego will become reborn as wiser and non-liniar problem solver and observer of the self. This kind of experiential memory when it is made makes rather large grooves which, if played in the same way (i.e. some one else has a numinous experience) essentially acts like a kind of deja vu for the universe - or a better analogy is a dreamer (the universe) who dreams about similar things/people that tell them they are dreaming (the memory of numinous experiences).

There are no atoms! We are a tiny speck of consciousness having a dream about being human. We're just jacked into the Matrix. None of it is real. So how can atoms that don't exist record ANYTHING? ACIM teaches karma is just a trick of the ego to make it real.

The model of this Universe being God's dream is quite tempting. It gives rise to many enigmatic questions when taken to its logical conclusion. For example, can we say that if God needs to dream like his creatures do, he must also need to wake up like his creatures do. When he wakes up does he realise that he was in a dream and the world that he was perceiving was unreal ? Does God enter deep sleep also like his creatures do ? What is the difference between God's waking and deep sleep states ? If God is pure consciousness/awareness, does it mean that God loses awareness in His deep sleep state just as creatures do ? When God wakes up, what kind of universe does He see? since his dreamed up creature universe no longer exists. If God needs to wake up, dream and deep sleep, then can he be considered as another creature himself? In that case, are there multiple Gods ? If so then these Gods themselves are higher creatures and the entire dream world analogy must be applicable to them in toto. These Gods must themselves be dream creatures of their God etc. ad infinitum in an endless regression. So the model of the world being God's dream is specious at best. It looks quite plausible initially but inadequate and deceptive upon inquiry.

Let's look at trauma therapies. They work by releasing a limbic process held in check by cognition, and meditation is one of a number of portals into cognitive suppression. The major heads are hypnosis (EMDR, for instance), psychotropics (MAPS, for instance), shamanics, sensory deprivation and meditation (eg mindfulness). Where Peter Levine identified one clearing the traumatic before it embeds, a similar one drains the programmed reflex response if that fails - as long as we have the trigger side in clear view as we drop in. I'm certain, with Reiki-master level meditational skills, that there are more. Can we conjure happiness? I suspect so. It depends on the focus we hold. Contentment, certainly.

Then meditate on the systems in the main payload from an interpersonal relationship with the ontological. To simplify: There is a numinous, which we can relate to in humility. That means clearing the channels of our ego, dropping into cognitively-suppressed limbic neutrality by repentant confession. The latter takes the numinous seriously, the former simply recognises our egos are an obstruction. Then enjoy the ride. I've woken up from a nightmare, realised it was a nightmare, gone back to sleep, and the nightmare continued but this time the dream characters within the nightmare knew it was a nightmare (the second time). I'm sure people have had other dreams where they realised they were dreaming. Furthermore, physical laws don't existing my dreams, the dream characters have done some crazy things and inconsistently too, from moment to moment (within the dream) to dream to dream and so on. Sometimes there have not been dream characters at all but rather crazy dreams like universes of thoughts or homogeneous universes (no subjects, people, tigers). If you've seen Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, then even more crazy than these but along those lines. It appears I'm not the only one having these kinds of dreams either.

Our lives are streams of perception, and the classical model of neuroception, interoception, proprioception and exteroception all handle the tangible to various degrees. Following Wendy d'Andrea's report of crossover interoception in 2020, where she found couples with either partner carrying childhood trauma were bilaterally aware of each other's interoception - and that includes the untraumatised partner being aware of their partner's interoception, to unpack "bilaterally" - I realised not only that Peter Levine's animal healer for trauma was in the same domain, but also that huge areas of the mind are too. I therefore floated the concept of transception, the perception of the intangible, and it received the salute of Bruce Duncan Perry. It's major domains are empathy, 3rd Sector medicine, and the numinous, although sub-instances appear in the documentation all over the shop. We've recently heard from Andrew Sabisky about his work in NeuroTheology, for example, something very important in my own belief system. However, I take issue with the unitarian concept, because Organised Religion has caused so much harm mankind has spurned it. The trauma causes classic IAS reflexes, mostly fugue, occasional agression, and sadly the references in the preamble suppose a non-critical approach to an Organised Religion. My own life was diverted to resolve exactly that, I found myself unexpectedly completing the Mahatma's unfinished business, left that way because a Religious fundamentalist objected to peace. Twenty-eight years of patient faith have followed, it was only on 1st January that India caught up and agreed that unaccountably, they'd been at peace with Pakistan for decades! It matters not how long it took, the peace was real, and hadn't needed the mating of elephants, cosmic alignments, or anything other than the realisation that war is one of the more stupid ideas humanity has created. In case you don't know, I'm a fairly lead member of the team which won the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize, and the solution which worked for Pakistan was tabled by Imran Khan's meeting with Putin in March. I don't know what Advaita Vedanta is, who Francis Lucille is, what his Direct Path approach is, or what the Tantric Tradition of Kashmir Shaivism is, but my red flags went up instantly with Tantric. Love-bombing? A quick visit to Mr Lucille's site confirms the cashing-in. Two red flags. The philosophy of non-dualism is dogmatic belief in "only one truth that is Brahman". A major red flag. Yes, it talks of transcending that, but if it was transcendant, why the reference to it? All told, there is an issue of a duty of care here. Competent psychotherapy is quintessentially dualist, where I'm coming from and where they are, and we must respect that. This does not. Why, therefore, is it being given a hearing? Philosophy and psychology are not the same thing.

RS continues to repeat “… consciousness is the element that enables us to be aware, but you cannot know it”. Granted. But he continues to indirectly refer to “it” as something we can recognize and work with. I recognize consciousness, but consider it a concept, a process in which I become aware of thoughts, feelings, and emotions. RS evidently thinks one can somehow manipulate or interact with consciousness as if it were candy you can chew on. That implies free-will. Without free-will, how can you seek to understand something or utilize it? I don’t believe consciousness exists outside our brain, although all humans have the same “virtual” concept - it is not an element in the universe that can be manipulated outside our brain. It is how we conceptualize the “drive” that makes us seek food, shelter, sex, and whatever we need to survive and multiply - our biological imperatives. What we can do is be self-aware - of our motivations, our needs, etc., but that comes from learning the benefits of self-awareness from others and practicing it. It does not require free will. If free will was “real” it would be easy to break addiction habits. In fact, it is extremely difficult, and almost invariably requires, in one way or another, help and support from others. Sometimes life is like being caught in a river and you can swim all you want but you can’t excape the current without someone throwing you a rope.

But maybe it's just a bunch if localisations only, there's no Infinite Consciousness but rather individual localisations that "appears the same" because of some synchronicity (like all humans being the same, brain structures being the same, etc.). We assume that your answer to the question "Am I Aware" and my answer is pointing to the exact same thing in saying there is Infinite Consciousness but all we have for agreement is yet again the same thing as with materialism, concurrence among different people or egos/minds. So I disagree it is absolutely "knowing" using the same criteria you've established re: materialism.

@@michalrusin6503 I get so fed up with this use of somatic pap. Hypnosis is one of the paths into freeing the limbic, which then lets far more ancient autotherapeutic systems loose. The recent discovery (and I don't know how much of that is mine, but that's like saying, "Hey, grass is green!" when everyone's been saying "Constable's is yellow") of another daemon to match Peter Levine's pre-embedding shake-it-out trauma therapy is world-changing. Levine's daemon preempts embedding, this is post-embedding: all the therapies do is dump the subject into a cognitively-suppressed mindstate with a focus on the amygdala trigger, and leave it to that daemon to fix, by draining the associated response which informs the IAS reflex. You still trigger, but don't react. I've added a Reiki touch in experimenting on myself, I flooded the void left by the drain with agape (which of course hooks straight into Andrew Newberg's work on neurotheology, but then again, I'm an extreme case of Elaine Aron's Highly Sensitive thesis - Arshad Rather's team called it hyperperception), so now I get reassurance back, and that really does sort the residual fear. To my mind, training in mind-calming should be every adolescent's birthright. And the field is open to spot the many others in the limbic, Ruth Lanius' team under Braeden Terpou set the Gold Standard in their MRI-based study of the Innate Alarm System, the fight-or-flight, freeze, flop (and possibly fornicate) response to an embedded trauma triggering (I count genetically-programmed reflexes such as avreaction to spiders and snakes in there, and claustrophobia may be another), making the limbic the obvious place to look for the evident daemon common to every trauma therapy in the book.

But supposing my particular brand of existential angst isn't being generated by a frustrated desire to cease to exist, but rather just the opposite, of a fear of losing myself? Now I know were all taught (conditioned?) to be good little mystics, and that we must devalue our "smaller" individual identities at the expense of God's universal mind, but then why a physical world? That is, if Conscious is complete in and of itself, undimensioned and eternal, then why wouldn't it be content to just dream away for all time in a state of pure spiritual bliss? Why would it want to extend itself into a world of flesh and blood? Of birth and death? Of grief, sorrow, and loss? Why would Consciousness trade perfection for imperfection? Why would God want to be us? Just as the materialist atheist maintains that matter is mindless, so too does his opposite number, the mystic, maintain that matter is ultimately meaningless in the mind of God. It seems neither the materialist nor the mystic have any interest in the specifics, only the generalizations. And so as the two extremes continue on in their seeming ly diametrically opposed directions they begin to circle back on each other tot he point where they eventually become indistinguishable. Yes? No? Maybe?

@@ToddSloanIAAN Our consciousness is a feedback loop from the mid-brain gyri, in a cycle termed neuroception. I've been touting an even deeper level, awareness of the intangible, which I'm calling transception, out of respect to Abraham Maslow's Transpersonal, which became quite a fixation of his at the peak of his pyramid of aspiration. It's an essential in conceiving the domain of healing from psychological trauma, and is hailed as such by Bruce Duncan Perry. It's most obvious field runs from the empathic through the third sector of medicine to the numinous, although there are obviously references to it in many other areas as well. The -ceptions are subdomains of perception, so if you want to look into this further, I'd suggest you research the others, which are all tangible to some degree within the wider field of reality. They are, from the inside outwards, neuroception, interoception, proprioception, exteroception.

To me, this appears to be an interesting and thought-provoking model of the universe. If it was presented as such, I would have found it interesting and perhaps enlightening. But Rupert seems to be claiming it as 'reality', and I personally did not hear any convincing evidence for this throughout the video. Personally, I do believe there could be some form of 'unity' or connection or 'consciousness' that we don't fully understand. But I am also very aware that humans have evolved to be terrible at perceiving truth and excellent at believing things that make them feel like they belong, or bring happiness. And this is evolutionarily beneficial, hence the rise and persistence of religions. Science, albeit flawed, is our best way of trying to understand the world based on evidence and not just irrational human intuition. I have no doubt in the future that we will have much improved models of the universe that capture the idea of some kind of 'whole being'. And our current knowledge will be found to be utterly incomplete, just as before our knowledge of evolution, and the big bang. Philosophical/spiritual/religious people 1000 years ago could have spent a lifetime 'intuiting' things but not understanding these fundamental parts of the universe. And so I don't believe that humans today can 'intuit' the nature of reality. That doesn't mean to say that this isn't an interesting thought experiment, and that there aren't benefits to introspection and contemplation. I just don't think they will lead to an accurate picture of reality.

1. Science takes logic as a lemma. 2. Logic is a domain of mathematics. 3. Mathematics has shown itself to be bounded. 4. Therefore both logic and science are bounded. 5. A bound has two sides, inside and outside. 6. Therefore, the unscientific is valid. As a cross-check, I'll have a kg of love and 3 litres of disdain, please. What you should have gathered is that the subconscious is not logical. There are many paths into it, from sexual subspace to religious meditation, and it's almost unknown: It's processes, which I'm going to call daemons as a redefinition broadening Jung's usage into the sense used in computing, background processes not subject to volition, are often hindered by cognition: this is typified by the numerous trauma therapies, which all use the same daemon which drains the reactive intent from selected traumatic response in the amygdala. Let me unpack that a little, a traumatic event isn't shaken off immediately (another daemon) and embeds in the amygdala as a trigger and response. Any time the incoming sensory information matches a traumatic trigger, the Innate Alarm System (another daemon) fires off the associated response through the limbic to the motor cortex, completely avoiding the cognitive cortex. This can build into trauma, traumatic stress, and become disordered, because the healer daemon seems to be blocked by cognition.
