*Deep breath* The City Ground actually sits outside of the city boundaries; and is technically part of West Bridgford (the Trent is considered the border between the two localities) leading to a kind of Freaky Friday situation, where the football club representing the County is based in the City; while the City club is based outside of the City - but in the County. So, why is it called the City Ground? I'm glad you asked! The ground takes its name from the awarding of Nottingham's City Charter in the 1890's during its construction; at which time the site was within the city (or town) boundaries. This would change in the 1950's, when the Clifton housing estate was built to the south-west of the city. The new estates were to be considered part of Nottingham proper; while the area that is now West Bridgford would sit outside of the redrawn city boundaries so as to compensate Nottinghamshire County Council for the land lost to Clifton. So that, kids, is how the City Ground ended up not being in the city at all! *exhale*

The City Ground is back inside the city boundary now. They redrew the boarders when Nottingham City Council became a unitary authority back in the late 1990's

@@stephenreardon2698 all of West Bridgford including the City Ground & Trent Bridge is administered by Rushcliffe Borough council, not the city. It's frequently counted as part of Greater Nottingham for statistical purposes, but it's still not actually in the city proper.

My brother and I used to play tennis every summer at was just called Highfields in my day. No coaching etc, we just went and played for the fun of it. I still much prefer playing on grass. Now I live that I live in the US I have to watch my favorite time, Forest, on TV. We didn’t realize how spoiled we were living in the Nottingham area.

Meadow Lane is in the administrative area of Nottingham City. The boundary with the county is over the Trent. They are called Notts County because they played at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, which is in the county of Nottinghamshire.

Notts County may well play their home games in Nottingham but they are still playing them in Nottinghamshire,, and that's because Nottingham is in Nottinghamshire funnily enough.. The same like Derby County play their home games within the city boundaries,, but they still play in Derbyshire because Derby is in Derbyshire
