Nagas Will Never Join Indian Union Nor Accept India's Constitution: NSCN (I-M) Chief Th. Muivah

In an interview that is likely to upset and even annoy the government at the Centre and which starkly reveals the sharp differences that are still separating the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) from the Indian government, the general secretary of the NSCN (I-M) has repeatedly and forcefully said that the Nagas will never be part of the Indian Union nor will they accept India’s constitution.
Thuingaleng Muivah added that there could be no compromise on the NSCN (I-M)’s insistence on a Naga flag and Naga constitution.
“We have stood our ground on these two non-negotiable issues and we shall continue to stand till the last man standing,” he said.
Muivah added that Naga organisations like the Naga National Political Groups or several civil society organisations, who are not insisting on a separate flag and constitution, are “traitors”.

I still remember the day, I was 6 playing in the kitchen when 22nd Asam Rifles broke our door and hit my grandma with the butt of the SLR rifle, she was dragged outside along with my grandpa, mom, dad, uncle & aunt, and beaten black and blue. My dad was hung upside down for hours, tortured, nails pulled out, 5 ribs broken, and a fractured knee. My neighbor a 12-year-old boy, with whom I would go to school every morning was gunned down (28 bullets) because he pelted stones at the Army men who tried to rape his mother. More than 500 houses were burnt, and our granaries, and fields were all burnt. I may not agree with our Naga Army and Taxation, but cometh the day I will be the first to sacrifice my life for our Nation. I was born a Naga and I will die a Naga. Freedom till death. Kuknalim

Gandhiji stated that - “Nagas have every right to be independent. We did not want to live under the domination of the British and they are now leaving us. I want you to feel that India is yours. I feel that the Naga Hills are mine just as much they are yours, but if you say, ‘it is mine’ then the matter must stop there. I believe in the brotherhood of man, but I do not believe in force or forced unions. If you do not wish to join the Union of India nobody will force you to do that……..I will come to the Naga Hills; will ask them to shoot me first before one Naga is shot”. So now the GOI has to find the way out so that the Gandhiji -'the father of the nation' dreamed for the Nagas been cherished and fulfilled with a respectable solution. And also the Great PM Atal Behari Vajpayee-Ji planned for the Naga's be fulfilled as, during his tenure, the GOI recognised "the uniqueness of Naga history. " Jai Hind- Kuknalim

Nagas were free people until the British came and colonized them in 1878 after successfully suppressing the Angami uprising. Although, Naga-land was never fully conquered by the British. Only 1/3 of Naga-land was under British India, colonized by the British. The Nagas declared independence one day before India's independence on 14th August 1947. Naga-land was kept as an "Excluded Area" before India was granted independence by the British. Moreover, the Naga Hills was administered seperately as different entity...it wasn't part of the British India. But unfortunately after India's independence, the prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, and the prime minister of Myanmar, U Nu came to Naga-land uninvited and colonized them - eastern Naga-land by Myanmar and western Naga-land by India. The inhuman atrocities committed against the innocent Nagas remain untold until today. Pray for the restoration of Naga-land. They deserve to live under one nation. They deserve to get back their freedom. Say no to colonisation.

U must first know the mentality of Nagas, how much they maintain 'respect' within their tribes. U know why NSCN-K was disbanded from IM? Do u even know how many factions are there? Do u even know how they treat each other with bullets on a faceoff? Try putting up a question like"which tribe is the best and advance?" U'll be surprised that they are only United as a NAGA because of India, otherwise they are just different tribes in their mentalities, they once were enemies looking for a trophy head to bring home.I wonder which tribe will rule the Nagas as a whole, I would rather say 'I can picturize the chaotic scene, self proclaimed Warlords claiming ones own territory to rule' And moreover Nagas don't even consider Tangkuls (NSCN-IM) as Nagas. Talks have being going on for decades n more the year past the most factions are coming up so with no unity and peace between our own leaders where are they trying to lead us even if solution is given , it’s pure hypocrisy and it had just turn out to be a self interest demand in my own opinion.

Muivah and Tangkhuls have every right to be independent from India. However they have no moral or legal right to use someone else's ethnic identity to be independent from India. Why not he change NSCN into NSCT (National Socialist Council of Tangkhulim)? You're all high on cheap propaganda sowed by wannabe intellectuals of the NSCN. How convenient to just fabricate and throw around this "make-believe" figure "99%" associated with the plebiscite ?? Nobody is ignorant anymore. Furthermore, how could you say that the Nagas voted to be independent from India, when in reality only the British-administered tribes of the Naga Hills participated in this nonsense plebiscite? The real/original unadministered Nagas had absolutely no clue about who is using their ethnic identity as a political tool.

The final last two questions by the interviewer was pragent with danger. But our wise Naga leader avoided the danger by playing a fool himself. He acted as if he didn't understood the questions. That was the wisest thing a true leaders can do. If he would have answer then that could left Nagas open to the world about their kitchen activities. A lesson from that scene is, sometimes it is better to act fool and live then act smart and die. That's absolutely wise act. Sometimes Wiseman are the one who seems fool to a fool.

Muivah has the right to demand independence from India. However he has no right to wear the Naga ethnic identity to do so. If he thinks India's rule over his land and people is illegal and unjustified, why can't he also realize that him and his people trying to wear the Naga ethnic identity is illegal and unjustified????? How could he demand independence from India by citing ethnic and cultural differences only to wear someone else's ethnic identity? Why can't he demand for "Tangkhul-Lim" instead of "Nagalim"? It is about time this illegal racket come to an end. Hope the Centre ENDS THE CEASEFIRE AGREEMENT and go hard on them. Muivah's attempt to hijack the Naga identity and use the inherent soft power it carries to demand secession from India was a gamble worth the risk back when India emerged as a new country in 1947 and the political atmosphere was fluid. But as times have changed dramatically and people are becoming increasingly aware of the illegitimacy of the demand for Nagalim, Muivah and his henchmen are aware of the fact that he has dug a rabbit hole and trapped in it not just the Tangkhuls but many other tribes from Manipur who have been lured into it through their efforts (misguidance). Judging by how the dynamics have evolved to be, we can safely infer that the Tangkhul's Plan A is the creation of a "utopia" called Nagalim with the help of Muivah-led NSCN-IM. However, if it doesn't work out favourably for them even after attaining this goal, which very likely won't as they are not Nagas, their Plan B is to merge the independent Nagalim with the People's Republic of China as soon as India gives in to their demand for sovereignty. Who knows they could have all along been aspiring to make this so-called Nagalim become a part of PRC.

Dear, Karan Sir, Naga political issue, like all other political issues, is rooted in history. Therefore, if you are serious about knowing about it in depth, firstly find out who the Nagas are (historically, linguistically, and ethnically). During the Ahom period, the identity strictly belonged to the people east of the Ahom Kingdom, whose territory the British left virtually untouched. In the late 1800s, the British converted their ancestral identity into a generic term and resulted in inclusion of 6 more ethnically unrelated tribes of the administered hills (today's Nagaland) under the term. Decades later, more tribes from Manipur that were not referred to as Nagas even by the British, began sneaking into the identity. As it stands today, there are three categories of Nagas that have emerged. They are : 1) real ethnic Nagas (now known as Phom, Konyak, Wancho, Nocte + some other related tribes of eastern Nagaland), 2) the British-created Nagas (basically all major tribes of today's Nagaland) 3) Self-declared Nagas (historically nondescript tribes from Manipur) that are trying to sneak into the umbrella identity to give meaning to their existence. That Tangkhul man you are interviewing is a self-declared Naga.

Those slain soldiers came from poor families, farmers, manual workers and had nothing to do with Tribal conflicts in the North-East. Not just soldier's but common people of North East from all sections have been killed sadly due to the insurgency. *Where do you think these Chinese made Ak-47s and techniques to make IED's, bombs etc came from...* who taught these Tribal people who couldn't even read back then to use Jungle ambush tactics and intelligence gathering etc? It's straight from the China's policy of Mao's warfare tactics. *So I'm politely suggesting you to kindly shut tf up for being deliberately ignorant.* Killing people for the sake of your dubious freedom isn't fancy, it's called terrorism. *Get some moral and ethical lessons first, then talk about freedom.*

Muivah went to China-Yunnan in 1960's to train militants to fight against India which resulted in lives of many soldiers who had nothing to do with insurgency. So much for the man of conviction who has blood of thousands on his hands, lol. Are you going to support those childrens and wives of martyred soldier's? *Get some moral and ethical lessons first, then talk about freedom.* Getting training and weapons from China to kill innocent people isn't independence, it's terrorism. *There's a reason why Gandhiji was against the use of weapons in the process of Independence against Britishers.* That's why our independence is globally acknowledged. People from Middle-East who took weapons for independence are still in turmoil, to this date. You'll be termed mentally disturbed if you take on weapons in USA or Europe, do that in Asia or Middle-East you'll be an Extremist, Jihadist, Terrorist, Hindu extremists etc in the eyes of global community. There isn't a concept of Christian terrorism or extremism for various known agendas. *Please don't add your community's name in that list, I know people from North East and they're so generous.* Let's keep it that way. Already few names from North East have been added to the list Globally declared list of terrorist organisations. *Be mindful.* Cheer.

@@taotree4097 of course it was never your choice. It was and it will always be a wrong thing done by India. No one can deny the injustice with Nagas. I'm talking about the future of Nagalim. Sharing sovereignty means accepting the co-existence, sharing power. Already one Nagaland is a part of India, but it's about all the Nagas who want another system. Who wants their identity to be remain there. If Nagas can have their own Constitution, flag, an army unit where is the problem? (Considering the fact both agreed for peace and shared sovereignty) A separate nation is a highly unlikely idea. Isn't it win-win ? No violence? Nagas will have access to all Indian Institutions, technology, their security will always be a responsibility of Naga Regiment, Indian Army? Naha people will prosper.

@@ravisatpute98 there is a schism between Indian and Nagas and as long as Nagas remain under the constitution of India, Nagas will always be treated as an adopted son/daughter. This has always been the attitude of Indian towards Nagas. We aren't orphans and every sensible Nagas knows the devilish plot of Indian. We cannot leave behind this oppressive legacy to our children.

You can accept becoz u HV right. But yor leader is so uneducated he seems to unaware of properly recorded histories of many princely states, kingdoms n nations. Yor leader needs to learn basic history first.Thr Nagas of the time confined to narrow regionbas compare to the present with no such organisation or government. Muivah history creation came up in the 1980s only. The NNC emerged just prior to 1947.

Very understandable.. nagas seem very reserved of their culture and do not wish to be intervened by foreign forces. With India being such a diversed nation such issues are inevitable.

I oppologise if Indian armed forces did bad things to you guys but belive me these organizations are currently biggest enemies to you guys now . Ur asking just a small land we offer you whole India from mountains kashmir to temples of kanyakumar . From buildings of bombay to marshy lands of Assam.
