It took more than a year for Duran Duran to get a record contract. Duran Duran got their record deal in late 1980. The band was started by Stephen Duffy (aka Tin Tin) & John Taylor & quickly followed by Nick Rhodes in 1978. They went through multiple members in the band with Roger Taylor joining in 1979 & then in the summer of 1980, Andy Taylor & Simon Le Bon joined to become the Duran Duran that became a commercial success. None of the Taylor's are related. This was Duran Duran's lineup evolution up through when they got their record deal: 1978 line up: Stephen Duffy (vocals and bass), John Taylor (guitar), Simon Colley (bass and clarinet), Nick Rhodes (synthesizers, tape and rhythm machines) 1979 line up 1: Andy Wickett (vocals), John Taylor (bass), Roger Taylor (drums), Alan Curtis (guitar), Nick Rhodes (synthesizers) 1979 line up 2: Jeff Thomas (vocals), John Taylor (bass), Roger Taylor (drums), Alan Curtis (guitar), Nick Rhodes (synthesizers) 1980 line up: Simon Le Bon (vocals), John Taylor (bass), Roger Taylor (drums), Andy Taylor (guitar), Nick Rhodes (synthesizers)

OOOO Simon was looking very manly in this one. YUM. But I still will always love Roger the drummer the most. Huge crush on him back in the 80s. OMG I was SO in love with Duran Duran. Have you dont "Save A Prayer" ??? Sorry, I follow so many reactors that I can't possibly remember who has done what, lol

Like we should at every DD gig Or should I say Every 1 in 20 would do at a DD gig and get weird looks when us true actual fans shout switch it off and off we look like we are singing the wrong words!! And does anyone still shout out “ That’s Money Honey “ at the right point in Girls on Film, cos I still do….. Just some things have got to done isn’t that right our DD family 😎

John's bass playing is excellent in this performance of Planet Earth. Simon didn't write this song or Girls on Film. It was written before he got there, but his voice made it successful.
@suzannecorona609811 ай бұрын
😂😂 Simon wrote Planet Earth and yes there is another version of Girls on Film by Andy Wickett, but the version Duran Duran released of Girls on Film in 1981 was re-written with Simon and the rest of the band.

In June 1980, Duran Duran signed a production deal with Paul & Michael Berrow's independent music label called Tritec Music. Duran Duran recorded demos of “Planet Earth” & “Is There Anyone Out There" soon after (1980) with Bob Lamb (UB40 producer) & planned to release these songs independently through Tritec Music. Obviously this never happened. Duran Duran went on tour to support British singer-songwriter & actress Hazel O’Connor in November & December 1980. During this tour, a bidding war between Phonogram & EMI occurred to sign Duran Duran & Dave Ambrose (A&R), who signed The Sex Pistols & Kate Bush, got Duran Duran to sign with EMI. Duran Duran released "Planet Earth" as their debut single on February 2, 1981 followed by "Careless Memories" on April 20, 1981 & then "Girls on Film" on July 13, 1981, which were all the singles from their debut & eponymous titled album released on June 15, 1981. Duran Duran's managers, the Berrow brothers, also owned a night club called Rum Runner in Birmingham, England which Duran Duran were the house band & the band members worked in various jobs at the club. Nick Rhodes actually DJ'd. Side note: Throughout Duran Duran's support of Hazel O'Connor's tour, Simon Le Bon would join O'Connor during her encore & sing backing vocals to David Bowie's song “Suffragette City.” O'Connor added this live version as the B-side to her single "Time" (1980) off her "Sons and Lovers" album (1980). In 2018, "Sons and Lovers" was re-released with “Suffragette City" added as a bonus track to the album. If interested, the song is available on KZbin & can be found by typing in the search bar: Hazel O'Connor & Simon Le Bon - Suffragette City (Live @ Dominion Theatre 6 December 1980 & you can get a glimpse of some classic & early images of Simon Le Bon.
