Later this year a cleaned up version will hit theaters again, to celebrate it's 40th anniversary (1984). If you have a chance to go and see it: DO SO! It is without a doubt the ultimate concert registration on film (big screen) with Talking Heads being at their absolute peak. The concert movie was directed by Jonathan Demme, who would go on to direct absolute classics 'The Silence Of The Lambs' and 'Philadelphia'.

This tour, off the Speaking In Tongues album, the concerts were one big dance party from the jump. But for me,the previous tour in 1980-81,off their peerless Remain In Light album, that was the real corker. Dance our asses off? You bet. But that live lineup, with Busta "Cherry" Jones on bass and Adrian Belew, who would soon be off to hook up with Robert Fripp,Bill Bruford and Tony Levin to form the insanely great 1980's version of King Crimson...Holy Hell did those shows rock the Hell out.

I was not at this concert, but I did go see them every time they were in town (I lived in Washington DC at the time - so that included Northern Virginia and Suburban Maryland concerts as well as in DC). ALWAYS the best concerts of the year each and every time! And since you wished you could see the audience - EVERYONE would be dancing almost the entire concert. Surprisingly, even what would have been the area for the mosh pit, would often be dancing in unison instead of the usual pogoing.

It doesn't matter the genre of music (country, New Wave, classic rock, metal, etc.) - if the musicians and vocals are really into it, the performance will go off. The musical arrangement for this performance is incredible. It's a combo new wave, punk and funk. "Girlfriend is Better" is also a crazy performance from the same show that's worth checking out. BTW - loved BANANAS!!!!

I rode my motorcycle, 1400 km to a weekend concert in another state. Got to see so many great local and international bands, that weekend. I had never heard of this band before, they were an hour late coming on stage(memory is foggy now) at 11.30pm, I was blown away by the stage show(Stop Making Sense stage show/movie is great) that night. And now to see the enjoyment on your faces to witness something I did so many years ago is great.

I have been to hundreds of gigs and in September of ‘83 at the pacific amphitheater I couldn’t believe what I witnessed. By far one of my top 5 shows ever. A couple months later they filmed this show. One of the few bands that are better live than the studio work.

Saw this in the theater when it first came out in 1984, its just one of the best concerts you will see anywhere. The way it was choreographed from the first song to the last is really very unique, probably unlike any show you will ever see. Highly recommend sitting down and watch the whole thing from start to finish.

Having grown up in the 80’s with The Talking Heads it amazes me the perception of this group versus the reality of it. Because I originally seen the videos of the songs on MTV as a kid but when I first saw this footage in the 90’s it blew me away to actually see them preform.

Talking Heads is a normally 4 piece band but this particular tour had a lot of supporting musicians. They don't normally dress in drab colors, but band leader, David Byrne, wanted this drab look while filming this concert film. As mentioned in comments the entire concert is worth watching as the band gets more musician on stage, song, by song.

The documentary, Stop Making Sense, of which this is a portion, was directed by Jonathan Demme, just before he directed Silence of the Lambs. If you wanna get a look at the audience, you'll have to watch "Crosseyed and Painless". It's the shows closer and the only time the audience is shown.

When this movie came out, I was three day in a row in the cinema and is was always a party and no one was sitting 🤗 You have to listen to some songs from their album „Remain In Light“ from 1980. With no doubt the most influential album of the whole decade.😎 Not to forget: the producer was Brian Eno 🤪
