If I had to name one song that I was sure was going to win it must be Germany 2010 - Satellite. In hindsite, Norway 2009 - Fairytale seems an even more obvious winner but since I didn't watch that year I'm not sure how obvious it was ahead of time.

Loreen is actually a lot more interesting than your average ESC winner: Her record label never managed to keep her down in a cookie cutter pop formula, (if they even tried, but let's face it, of course they did). Her style of music is quite eclectic and rather more what would probably be labelled "alternative pop" in the US. It moves between electronic music and songs backed by real players. Check out her track "Statements" for a powerful and quite impressive example.

Queen Loreen! One of Sweden's "undeadly 6"-hall of famers. :) I'm a metal/rock guy all the way. But in Sweden Eurovision is the biggest televised event of the year. And Loreens victory in 2012 is just.. Any Swede can tell you where they were and what they did that night. She is one of the biggest winners of all time. That song was on every club and bar in europe that summer. Euphoria is the song that has won ESC by the largest marginal. It's been credited to have "brought Eurovision into the modern age", as a lot of ESC songs tended to have a bit of a dated sound but after the success of Loreen's Euphoria more songs started to have a more contemporary sound. Fun fact: she actually had a sore throat during this performance, she caught some virus just a few days prior. Sweden absolutely rules the Eurovision ❤

Euphoria had the highest total number of votes of any eurovision song within the contest but it also became the most downloaded and played eurovision song ever. Waterloo can't be measured in downloads but had a MUCH smaller eurovision audience and was largely carried by general ABBA fame; It was very important for their international fame but it's not really one of their most listened to songs.

@@Ahris22 OK, well I guess it depends on what kind of metrics you use. Also, ABBA’s later success internationally kind of overshadows everything else ever associated with ESC. (They are up there in Beatles territory in terms of record sales). But I think it’s fair to say that Waterloo is still regarded as the best winner ever. I even think it won the distinction at some point fairly recently. I think it was BBC that published a popular survey on the subject. But like you say, it probably owes a lot of its popularity to ABBA's overall popularity. I do agree though that Euphoria is outstanding, for an ESC song, not the least because of Loreen's sensational performance of it.

@@Ahris22 Waterloo wasn't carried by ABBAs fame though as that is literally the song that got them the big breakthrough. They had had a minor succes in some european countries and south africa with the album Ring Ring but what truly got them the breakthrough was their entry into eurovision song contest in 1974 with, you guessed it, Waterloo. It is literally the song that put them on the world wide international map. This is taken straight from wikipedia so a grain of salt but " Waterloo was ABBA's first major hit in numerous countries, becoming their first number-one single in nine western and northern European countries, including the big markets of the UK and West Germany, and in South Africa. It also made the top ten in several other countries, including rising to number three in Spain, number four in Australia and France, and number seven in Canada. In the United States, the song peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, paving the way for their first album and their first trip as a group there"

3:26 She is a great singer, and she do well while moving a lot She does have 3 backup singers though, so it´s not just her singing, which helps when she is moving that much. Britta Bergström, Johanna Beijbom and Monica Starck. Bergström is a very experience Eurovision backup singer, for Sweden in 2004, 2012, 2014, 2015, and for Belgiunm in 2006 and Russia in 2011. The backup singers are, imho, the unsung heroes of Eurovision.

A bit late fof a comment maybe... but the other night, Loreen won her qualifying heat for a place in the Swedish competion that ultimately could send her to the Grand Eurovision Final in Brighton this year, in May 2023... (the Swedish entry will be decided next weekend). You just have to check out her live performance from the other night. Fantastic voice and visuals, yet again. It's called "Tattoo". In case you didn't know. She was born and grew up in Sweden, but she has got Maroccan heritage from both her parents (Berbers -indiginous, nomadic desert people).

So a little fact for you, she was acually sick here with a cold and that effected her voice a bit. There is a high note originally after the bridge thats amazing that she skipped here because her voice was not in the best condition so i recommend that you watch her performance in the swedish competition Melodifestivalen (its from that competition you get to Eurovision) that she won with this song!!

Loreen is the only woman to win Eurovision twice and the 2nd of all to win it twice after Johnny Logan did it for Ireland. Johnny Logan is known as Mr Eurovision for winning it twice by preforming, also for writing another winning song for Ireland and writing a song that came runner up, both times sung by Linda Martin. Loreen is the queen of eurovision. After winning in 2012 and when everyone found out that she was competing in the swedish Melodifestivalen which is where competition to select who will represent Sweden 2023, she got to be the favorite in bettings to win Eurovision even before winning in Sweden. This before Finland had set their staging for their song Cha Cha Cha.

I recommend you to see the Italian rock group Maneskin winner of eurovision 2021 and the one from Finland, the only 2 rock songs of the edition. After the 2006 eurovision winner with the group Lordi, he finally won a rock song again.

On Eurovision you just have to sing live. You have to have good pipes because 3 weeks you are almost not able to shout your mouth. It´s hard. There is a lot of concerts, rehearsals and so on.

You should search for the leaked performance from Dress Rehearsal 2 (that happens the night before the Final, and the jury judges that performance, the audience the actual final)... when the styrofoam snow starts falling, she swallowed a flake and coughed - the internet burnt that night, everyone was afraid the jury would punish her, but she still won.
