My pickup truck, a 2007 Chevy Silverado, has rust on the fenders and tailgate. I repair the rust damage following these steps: grinding it off with a sanding disk and wire brush; rebuilding a hole with wire mesh; using a rust converter where appropriate; applying body filler/bondo; sanding the bondo smooth; and, applying primer, paint and clear coat.
Video 1: removing/grinding away the rust; applying the rust converter; rebuilding a hole with wire mesh, applying the first layer of bondo.
Video 2: completing the bondo process (fibreglass bondo, regular bondo, and bondo putty), sanding multiple times with 80 to 300 grit, and a final layer of wire mesh.
Video 3: taping off the areas for priming and painting, wet sanding, and buffing.
Thanks for watching. Please subscribe, like and share.

Ive done similar a few times on my $ 1000 2000 Taurus. Last repair lasted over 2 years. This time I'm using the Bondo Hair as the rust has made a hole now. You did a great job. This is how the majority of DIY repair jobs look. Good, but not perfect. Bondo is the easy part for me. Blending the final paint the hard part. Last job i taped off and had rigid straight lines, not good.. I'm trying your method this time. Most pro body shops will not guarantee rust repair, So we all have nothing to lose. Hope mine comes out like yours this time.

Good luck Jeff. Two years is a great result for a DIY repair like this.

@@TheWoodlandReboot The Bondo Hair is awesome. All went well, except the final finish is very flat . Color match is good, no rigid lines, so i quit while Im ahead! Thanks again for your practical and realistic video.

Looks a whole lot better and respectable. Ever notice that a rusted truck is a cop magnet? When your rusted out and rattling down the road, police just can't resist pulling you over for a quick inspection to see how many tickets they can write.

I know. I didn't have another pair of good safety glasses at the time and the goggles were in a drawer after snow blowing season.

I wonder how many cans it would take to do the whole truck?
@TheWoodlandReboot
@TheWoodlandReboot 2 жыл бұрын
Too many. To do the entire truck, I think you want to order a quart or two and buy a spray gun.

It's doing well given it's a DIY special. The passenger side has a few bubbles emerging.

Did you not need to use clear coat at all?
@TheWoodlandReboot
@TheWoodlandReboot 3 жыл бұрын
I could have. I'm just a DIYer and this is good enough for this old truck.

That's what I was thinking,plus the clear would protect the paint.
