hey Wayne, Yes the engine, bell housing, and gearbox on the 59 Cadillac is correct they were a specific dark blue only the latter around mid to late sixties were raw aluminium. I hope this helps.

What about the dipstick, was that blue too, or should it be more of a metal grey or black?

I've been enthused. While I can't afford the Ecto-1 model kit, I have purchased the Haynes Ghosbusters Ecto-1 repair manual. It's full of photos and descriptions, even down to naming many of the specific real-world parts used to build the car!

I helped rebuild an original '59 flower car built on the commercial chassis back in '84 with 15,000 original miles on the odometer. I can verify that the colors of the engine and transmission we pulled out of the car, even the shade seems identical. The only colors that are different are belts, hoses, a few auxillaries such as air con and alternator, the headers and the air breather cover are that shade. The alternator, air con and headers should be silver and the breather cover black with red lines.

Wayne, when you get to the air filter issue, my advice is to NOT install it. I am finding it a major hindrance in installing the HT leads to the spark plugs as the distributor is right under the air filter. At least leave the central part with the wing nut off so you can uninstall the air filter to deal with these leads, then reinstall it after. I can't get mine out after following the instructions fully and the leads are becoming a real pain, so it's slowing me down on my build - still hope to get more up on Modelspace over the weekend.

Quick tip for anyone installing the engine block lower part, aka the "rocking horse" (3m30s) - it's not symmetrical. If you get it the wrong way round, you won't be able to install the sump in stage 7! It took me a while to figure out where I'd gone wrong...

I've looked at a few videos about this Cadillac ambulance for you, according to what I see the gear box housing is blue if it's an original part and iron grey if it's an after market part. I reckon they had a special on blue paint when Cadillac built these engines.

Not all were blue maybe just for the these body style but my great uncle has a 59 Cadillac with a gold engine idk what the bellhouseing looks like but if I was on the east coast I would find out but sadly I'm not and it is the engine that came with the car
@docdeth9044 жыл бұрын
@@kevinroy1277 I'm going to guess that was an El Dorado. Most had a gold air cleaner, and some had gold valve covers, but I'm not aware of any with all gold engine unless modified. I could be wrong, but Caddy went for a blue and gold motif on their high end cars.
@kevinroy12774 жыл бұрын
It was a convertible white with black top and white and red interior and has less then 80000 original miles on it and has been in the garage sense the 70s and sadly it don't run but one hell of a solid car no rust or rot on it just a shame he drives the cars then parks them and forgets them tell you want it then is worth millions and won't sell it to you
@milanondrak55644 жыл бұрын
@@kevinroy1277 it must be a colour they used for the ambulances then cause the video I watched had an original ambulance that needed restoring, the engine and gearbox were this blue colour. Sounds like Cadillac like to paint their engines nice colours.

Greg is correct..... if anyone is interested here is a list forwarded to me by a Cadillac restorer. > > > >Cadillac Blue: > Block > Heads > Transmission > Valve covers (unless it is an Eldorad then it is gold) > Transmission flywheel cover > Crankcase ventilation tube > Engine and transmission dipsticks > Oil pans (engine and transmission) > Engine valley cover > Oil fill spout, but NOT the oil breather > Water pump > Oil filter bracket > Oil filter housing [dm: 1959 only. Gold on Eldos] > Power steering pump support bracket > Lower pulley (harmonic balancer) > Fan pulley (I have seen both blue and black) - [mine was definitely > blue - dm] > > > Gloss black: [dm addition to the original list] > Radiator (check it's the correct Harrison, with raised lettering to > the left of the cap) > A/C & Heather fan blower and housing (or block-off plates if without > A/C) > Voltage regulator > Distributor cap (black plastic, not painted) > > > Semi-gloss black: > Power steering pump & reservoir > Power steering box > Generator & bracket > Distributor > Air filter housing (unless it is an Eldorado then it is gold) > Starter > Master cylinder > Brake booster (if Bendix) > Fan > Oil breather cap > Hinge springs (Some are anodized cadmium) > [dm addition:] > Ignition coild (but the 60 has the brown top, dunno for 59) > Battery tray > Battery hold-down bracket > > > Anodized cadmium (goldish) > Hinges & supports > Hinge springs (maybe - most I have seen are semi-gloss black > Firewall brackets & hardware > Hood latch & lock > Cruise control mounting brackets > Brake booster (if Morraine) > Lots of bolts and washers > > > Anodized silver > Wiper motor > Throttle relay & dashpot > [dm addition:] > Vacuum actuators > AC bypass valve > Washer jar mounting > Front grille > Generator "fan" blades > > > Cast iron > Fuel pump > Fuel filter housing > > > Bare metal [dm addition] > Radiator cap > Power steering pump cap > Generator condenser > Generator condenser clamp
