Love to see classic cars and concept cars get restored, it us ashame how they treated concept cars back in the day like they do not know how popular and valuable they become nowadays, some get scrapped, lost through time, left in barns and containers, used as movie and tv show props, destroyed, and so on, glad there are people out there trying to find and restore them, so glad we have those people

I won't get into what I paid for it new or what I sold it for later, but in July 1969 I purchased a 1969 Camaro convertible replica Indy Pace Car new from the chevy dealer. It was a 300 bhp 350 CI small block with 4-speed stick. It had exactly the same speedo dial as the '69 Z/28 in this video. If you look at the photo, the speedo needle is resting on a stop at zero mph. During one run on a straight highway in Nevada and another run in West Texas, I managed to get the speedo needle all the way around to the back side of that stop. I'm guessing it was moving about 140+ mph or more.

A real nice assortment of rare & unique cars Jerry! Someone in Seymour, IN had a '65 Shelby Mustang setting in their backyard. It was around 1973,I think. It had the small scoop on the hood,i tried to buy the hood for my car,but they wouldn't sell it. I never got to look under the hood or anything. Back then I didn't know how rare that car was,or very much about Sbelbys at all. I did remember seeing one in the movie Red Line 7000,I believe was the title. I went to a Ford dealership & paid $8 @ for new 289 hipo connecting rods,which were the same as Boss 302's if I remember right! Oh how we yearn for the good old days!❤

Funny thing is, you can find a lot of rare cars stored away in old people's garages or under sheds in the country. I'm from a small country town in South GA and you can see cars behind people's houses under sheds from the street. A lot of women didn't drive back in the days. So when their husbands died, the cars just sat there if they didn't have kids. My Aunt had a 57 Bel-Air yellow with a white top after her husband passed. She never drove it and never had a license. Her brother-in-law used to take her where she needed to go sometimes. I remember riding in it a lot when I was younger. She kept it parked under a car shelter behind her house. She was getting old and a guy spotted it from the street and talked her into taking about $3,000 for it. She never even told anyone in the family that she even wanted to sell it...SMH! A bought a 67 Chevy Bel-Air from a elderly woman for $500. It ran fine and started right up. Her husband passed away, the kids moved away, and the car just sat in the backyard under a shed. Up the street from where she lived there was another house that had two cars tightly parked under a shed. I never even stopped to see what they were, but I know that they were old cars. This was years ago...wish I would've stopped..lol.

i am a gear head i have had muscle cars all my life still do the reason most people dont want to sell is that when a car is found if the wrong person finds it they want to pay 1985 price they dont want have any skin in it we all want a good deal if you want something good you have to pay for it but if you are tight with your money chances are the only thing you are going to get is junk the story of the elderly lady that has a shelby in her back yard and dont no what it is might of been true 40 years ago but those days are gone if we were smart we would have found all the best cars in the 1980s and pade what they wanted would be rich today

Where I used to live at in Pennsylvania guy down the street from me had about 30 old cars in his backyard...all covered up they were all driven to the backyard and covered up.. I remember he grabbed up 70 Oldsmobile with the rocket engine he got it for $50.Bucks and drove it home... my good friend haha across the street he had three old cars the Oldsmobile 1970 Rocket engine 68 Chevelle 396 and a 66 Chevelle convertible all original...Sold all 3 cars dirt cheap for some reason he didn't want to sell me any of the cars to me because he knew that I would fix them up he was basically lazy he had the cars but he didn't want to invest any money into them... if you're looking for old cars from the 50s 60s and the 70s maybe the 80s....Newportville Pennsylvania it's a small neighborhood the guy's name is Bob if he's still alive... I moved out of the neighborhood in 2002 and moved to Florida it was just Bob and his father by now I'm sure the father's dead but Bob he's like 48 years old he got um all... his dad used to drive a blue 1955 pickup truck all the time... if you're interested I'll see if I can get some more information this kid had a drinking problem and I remember he lost his license for like 10 years he used to walk around the neighborhood all the time drunk. I keep thinking about all them old cars in the backyard just sitting there Covered up... I have four vehicles and a motorcycle and I'm too far away but I can get you the information I'm sure he would probably sell them all....later...😎😎😎

@@thewriter2549 the neighbour would never sell to someone that types so many run on sentences. I just sold two showroom 455 big blocks Olds, restored correctly by dad, with the uphostelry and body/paint done RIGHT by people we've known for decades in Calif., AND have been stored inside in a dry garage AND driven/started regularly to keep in tune, keep seals, bearings, and fluids good to go. What I got in money was less than it would cost to get these cars DONE RIGHT today, IF YOU HAVE A SHOP, TIME, and a guy like dad that knows what he's doing, and doesn't make MISTAKES or screw things up. the money just isn't there. Posters have no idea what money/time/shop room is needed, and we're losing the old crew that knows how to work on these cars. They're gone, or retired. This is the end of an era.
@thewriter25494 жыл бұрын
You mean end of an era restoring muscle cars? My new video that I am working on now is about a 48-year old man that bought a '67 Shelby. He was born in 1971.
@dwightstjohn69274 жыл бұрын
@@thewriter2549 I hope he won the lottery along the way; most muscle cars you find that are not showroom are found in the wrecking yard for a reason: they're been driven hard and trashed. your 48 year old better have a pile of "kash" and ability to find parts. ok, that's one guy under 70. Next!!!

There's a dealership called (Maple Motors) in Tennessee not too far from Nashville if you go on KZbin and put in Maple Motors you will see unbelievable deals old Camaros old Mustangs, Mopars it's like a dream come true.. all different year Corvettes Cadillacs 1934 -1940 Dodge a lot of old pickup trucks, I was checking out a 1965 Corvette convertible all original for under $30,000 that same car at that rip off place called (Barrett-Jackson) they would probably want $200,000 for that same car in pristine condition and the prices are so cheap you'll want to go there and buy 2 or 3 cars they have a 66 big block Chevelle with a for Speed great shape for like $17,000... 63 Chevy Impala 64..65 all original for like $14,000...1969 Yenko Camaro all original in perfect condition for $17,900... they have about 10 Mustangs couple Mach #1's... 1970 Chevelle Super Sport couple GTOs... The cars In Newportville I'm sure they're still there but I moved from there in 2002...It's Groveland Ave.and Ave.E the guy's name is Bob last time I was there he had 40 cars outside underneath tarps 1970 Olds Cutlass 442... 55 Chevy pickup...all cars are old and motorhead cars if I had his last name or a phone number I'd be happy to give it out but it's been 18 years... I'm sure if you do Google Map it will direct you basically to his house and if you keep driving down the street it's a dead end he's been living there forever and everybody knows him I'm sure if you want to find a lot of old cars for a cheap price you have to do some research that's the best I can do for you or check out Maple Motors in Tennessee...My best friends coming to Florida end of March... he's looking for a Pontiac Trans Am I saw one there it was black Gold Eagle on the hood with a 6.6 liter.. 4-speed for $17,900... I saw a beautiful 55 Chevy 2-door was a two tone 327 motor all chromed-out with air conditioning for $22,500 and if it's still there that 1965 Corvette convertible 427 with a 4-speed looks like brand new for under $30,000 guy on Facebook was selling a Challenger RT with a 440 and he wanted a $130,000... they had one at the dealership yellow black vinyl top and a long the sides said R/T 56,700 MILES FOR $27,700...cars are turn key and drive away.... I think it's Hendrickson Tennessee and the phone number is 615-822-4444 Check it out I know I am....😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗😗

The best barn find has never been spoken of but I know the guy that got taken for this one. This guy was and maintenance man from west Virginia working in Baltimore Maryland. There was and chevy dealer called Luby Chevrolet. They had and never titled 1967 corvette still in its plastic from the factory and the spin-off hubs for the wheels in the trunk also in plastic. The guy bought it from the dealer for $20,000.00 cash as the place was being taken by the bank. So now this is and poor country type of person. So someone gets ahold of this guy and says I will give you 400k for this car and buy some other cars from you also. I did not have the heart to tell him if it would be sent to Sothebys or christies he would have gotten millions easily. I called christies and ask the question of the approximate bid they said from 3mill to as much as 20 mill or A great deal more depending on bidders the car had 4 original miles on it. It was kept in heated and ac storage all its life in perfect shape and it was what is called and showroom car from the factory the best built for the showroom. Now barn finds top that one lol. Yes, I know how to contact the seller if he is still alive.

military, jail, medical issues, dropped dead, had to leave town suddenly, married rich,; we had a full shop in Calif. and would see this stuff all the time. @thewriter25494 жыл бұрын
Restoration costs are often exaggerated. This is a hobby. Doing part of the work yourself can really cut down dollars needed.

Carl Campbell they always exaggerate restoration costs for insurance reasons. $100,000 would very easily restore that car.

@@thewriter2549 - So many of these wrecks we see are at a level that require expertise and facilities far beyond that of handymen / shade tree mechanics to do proper restoration.

@@ES-pr8bt Honestly your ball park estimate could easily escalate to say $125- $135 K which makes a figure of $150 K not out of line considering everything that will be required. Professional estimators in any expensive work do not have the luxury of optimisim. If they contract with a client (as opposed to blank check) they are bound to deliver the job for the contracted price. This is why jobs with unrealistic cost expectations are declined altogether

What is the psychology behind keeping cars you no longer want or cannot drive only to let them rot w/o taking any precautions to preserve them? It should be CRIMINAL to do this! The need to hang onto something because of an emotional attachment only to kill it's value in the end? I don't get it.
