While I was watching this I realized that there have been several instances in my life where a guy had gotten to the point of saying "what are you doing this weekend" and every time I would make up some thing that I thought would make me sound cool so that he would keep talking to me and eventually asking me out. Not realizing that that's what was happening in the first place! LOL. No wonder I never go out on dates, I'm always giving the signal that I'm not interested. Well now I know.

@@mcpartridgeboy Yes, I know excatly how you feel. I had very similiar experiences and slept with a prostitute and a stripper just so I could experience what sex was like. I tell you this it didn't make me feel any better afterwards, I still felt empty. Sex is only important to people that are not having any sex. So, if you can get this idea that sex if everything out of your head then it isn't so important. What you need is self love, I know this sounds corny but women have an abundance mind set. Which is something us men need to develop too. Right now a lot of men a struggling with women and remaining single b/c of toxic feminist ideology that has been pushed in our society. Women know they control the dating world so the odds are stack against men like us. Hating women will do no good except hurt yourself even more. Hehe, that sounds familiar, and it's not even the only (nor the worst) way I've failed at doing conversation. For instance, it took me a ridiculously long time to understand that whenever somebody asks me how I'm doing and what I've been up to lately, they're usually just trying to be sociable and don't necessarily expect me to answer truthfully, plus I'm supposed to return the same questions. For the longest time, I used to either just say I'm fine and not know what to add next (a bit like in your example), which would often end the exchange on an awkward silence and parting of ways, or when they seemed especially interested in knowing about my recent activities, I would often launch into a summary of my insomnia problems and how my latest attempt to get a job had failed miserably, not because I felt the need to talk about it, but because they had asked and so I felt compelled to satisfy their apparent quest for information. I eventually came to understand that it's not the kind of response people approaching me casually were generally after.

Also, I had friends tell me that my crush also liked me and she showed it by asking me for a pencil daily because she forgot to bring hers. It annoyed me that she kept taking all my pencils. After they told me that, she already hated me. Did she like me or was she forgetful? How do I talk to people?

For me it is really hard to approach a woman. I don't approach a woman if she doesn't send signals like in 1:34 (the girl switches between short looks to him and looking on her cell phone). Looking at him and smile are clear signals, giving him a green light for approaching, which the guy actually does. I am very reluctant in asking what she will do in the weekend. Asking it is somewhat intruding in her weekend plans (minding what she will do in the weekend) and not asking is lacking interest. Although I am autistic, I can apply the same skill, but I am scared to death to do it. I daren't do it. The girl or woman may think that I am not reading her signals and ignoring her.

Wise General MMA I don't consume MDMA (or any stepped on variants of it like today's 'molly'). I've had to explain this to 100 dummies by now so here's 101. It's just a username and I chose it like 8 years ago as a sort of joke because at that time I was doing my thesis in the field of structural biochemistry. I like MDMA because I think its structure is an elegant way to prevent metabolism of the 4' moeity of this phenethylamine (the principle active binding/allosteric modulating functional group(s) of any (99%) phenethylamines). It does this by providing an additional resonance structure and increases the overall aromaticity between the phenyl and dimethoxy moieties in MDMA. Yes I know this comment is 2 years too late, had I seen it then I'd have replied then because it was just a low blow uncalled for dick comment for you to have made/ I really will never understand where someone's desire to make fun of strangers in a KZbin comment comes from. For the record, trying MDMA once or twice in your life will not kill you (or have any long lasting effects). Regular use is a different story of course. Don't just go around making fun of people, it's juvenile (and mean), uncalled for and what good does it do to mock someone for a challenge they have to deal with in their lives and have no control over?

What I've learned from watching videos like these is that I need to pursue hobbies that are more conducive to social interactions, rather than the ones that you can really only do by yourself. Like, I went to a comedy club a couple weeks back for their recurring open mic night. Its incredibly cheap AND the social conventions aren't to complicated. Plus, a great way to learn how neurotypicals think. I could also do more research into bands I like so I could have a conversation about them. Just a few ideas.

All I know about autism is it really is not good to have. I go on a date here or there (I think my first date was around 17), but basically means I don't get laid, sometimes alienate friends, don't do well in social clubs or groups, can't hold down a job (I couldn't last in either of my two stints as a substitute teacher), I almost got fired from a government job once for a weird relationship with a girl, I'm 30 and I would have been so much more successful socially, professionally, and had a a wider circle of friends if I didn't have it.

Dafuq you're saying. That's just such a useless argument. You're prolly just trolling, but for anyone else reading you're comment they should be aware of the fucking negativity you convey. Cos what you're saying is just logic, the reality. It has no meaning. Asperger is great. Yes the challenges are there, but its an exciting journey to take with all these great people eager to help one-another (like wrongplanet). I know a side-effect of aspergers is depression. Its very important to be positive. "To be positive" is a verb, you work at it and you strive for results. Again you're comment, objectively saying, is totally useless without a positive note to take from it or without a clearly fixable problem being presented. Stating that your life would have turned out differently in another reality (without autism) is a fact. Its true. So if you cant change reality, you should look a 1 layer down in scale and see where there is a change possible by working on it. End of rant lol. Hope at least 1 person finds this interesting or commendable :D [or understandable ^^]

those things you mention can be learned with a good mentor/therapist. I am mentoring an 18 year old who graduated from a professional school in June. I prepared him all through the summer little by little for a job, he started last Wednesday. It takes some preparations, a willing and understanding employer and clear agreements between the employer, the person on the spectrum and me (I remain present but in the background). I go to his work every now and then to see if everything is OK with him, I stayed with him the whole morning on his 1st day to make sure he felt comfortable enough. His employer knows he is autistic, knows what their new employee needs and what should be avoided. And if there is ever a problem everyone knows where to reach me. Personally I don't know anyone on the autism spectrum that does well in clubs, autism does affect communication and social skills so it seems logic to me that this would be a more challenging aspect of your life. But you are capable to learn and adapt with the right support and guidance. Being a neurotypical is no guarantee for a successful social and/or sexual life believe me. It takes remaining your true self to be able to have a meaningful relationship and this my friend is what autistic people do best: being honest and being who they are. I trust you will be able to find the right person to guide you through your new experiences dear okonh0wp

One of them tried to get my attention and yelled to me "hi," "you didn't say hi," "you're cute," and "would you date me?". I just kept moving. I just don't want to be social, and don't like to talk. I consider adult norms, responsibilities, and milestones way more important than human intimacy. I want to just live by myself, own a home, have a job, and drive a car. Are there studies proving that social skills training really works in the long term? If it's teaching us to communicate like NT's, it sounds like camouflaging which we can't really sustain. Autistic people often find that they need breaks or meltdowns by the time they get home. They often work hard trying to look normal by monitoring their facial expressions, suppressing their stims, and focusing on other social cues. Maybe it's better for the autistic boyfriend to be himself instead. I'm autistic. I can smile without faking it with poor timing and possibly the wrong kind. Sometimes people giggle. I could be wrong.

First off, I'm fairly sure the interactions were just a controlled demonstration. Are you an extrovert / verbal aspie? Or more non-verbal? I'm very verbal and tend to only be able to approach girls conversationally via just describing observations (since visually I'm overstimulated anyways). For example in a grocery story, I often will ask girls stupid shit like, "How do you know what color dish soap that you're suppose to get?" Then follow up with a confusing response. Turn stupid into funny.

This is a little bit helpful, but I need more advice on getting to know a guy before telling him that I'm attracted to him and asking him out and showing that in more subtle ways. I've failed so many times because, I always get distracted by my sexual/romantic feelings whenever I see a guy that I'm attracted to. I was told that becoming his friend first is important, and I agree. But, I can't seem to put those feelings on the figurative back burner for very long. At least I've learned some things over the years, like not pressuring the guy for a kiss or a date or anything like that for example and not saying comments that are too personal too quickly; like, "I like your butt" for example. I want to be seductive but, I don't want to come off as a creep or go too far and end up getting taken advantage of. Any more advice for an autistic woman such as myself?

Too artificial and oversimplified. I would like to see more on how to determine if the interest in genuine, i.e. just being nice vs. real attraction.

Is she attracted to me or just being nice... or maybe making fun of me? A nice smile and a sarcastic smile look pretty much the same to me. When I was in high school I got hurt pretty badly by not recognizing the difference. ("OMG! Can you believe he ACTUALLY thought I would want to go out with HIM? EWW!!!") Some of us are such social disasters that our reputations precede us.

The people who are too socially awkward go to people in Liz Laugeson's line of work regularly. I have Aspergers and I've been to a few support groups for people with Aspergers. At these support groups we learn how to socialize and it's normally for people(or kids depending on the general age for the group) who can interact with others pretty well.

Hey Alex, Not sure if you could answer this, kinda personal, was wondering if its possible for an aspie to have a romantic/sexual relationship with a nypical?
@PJVids839 жыл бұрын
+Marc A. Castro I'll answer that question. Yes, yes it is possible. In my case, I met a single mother with an autistic son and it went well for a while. So, you just have to look for the right people in the right places.

So how does an austistic girl ask a guy out and not be afraid of being judged? I feel like men discriminate disabilities and I thought there is a law we shouldn't discriminate.

When you learn more about human sexual relations, the more you become aware how boring it all is. X is attracted to Y when X subconsciously thinks that Y is the best he/she can get. What X values can vary, but for a large part they are evolution and culturally defined. That's what it basically boils down to. So basically, when you are attracted to someone, you have to try to impress them so they are attracted to you, just like any other animal.

*What a faulty and self-deluding statement you just wrote. Most women are attracted to stupid, weak, abusive males, which disproves Darwin's theory of evolution. Evolution is nonexistent.*

I say don't even bother trying to guess, aspies are terrible at that. Just ask, save yourself some time. Find some sort of warm facial expression that you're comfortable with. Don't bother spending time with someone with no common interest. I tend to be forth coming about my gremlin rules like no theaters, restaurants (well lit ones anyways). Making a list of descriptive reasoning as to how you feel in public places and use it in conversation. Do you already have a notion of compatible traits?

Actually, I think this video is quite realistic but we just aren't given the full story behind why she's there. I bet she's in that doctors office as part of her court-mandated psychotherapy that was the result of her plea-bargain for castrating her last three boyfriends. Therefore, she is displaying interest in him, but only as a future victim!

If you attempted the conversation as depicted in this video in Australian culture (who, like the British are not very open to people they don't know imitating conversation) - it wouldn't work. When I traveled to the US - I found Americans significantly more open to casual conversation. This example is not a cultural fit for my country.

Scripts are a great thing mainly because they can be completely detached from reality. 2:09 convo doesn't exist in the real word unless you are attractive or the woman is unattractive, it goes more like this: Man: Are you watching bla bla bla on your iPhone ? Girl: Ammm, yeah... *thinks how creep was that Man: I love Woody Allen. Girl: Ok, nice. *fake smile, thinking : OMG here we go again, this guy trying to start a conversation, cant he get the hint that i am not interested by my minimalistic replays ? Man: Do you have a favourite of his ? Girl: Amm, i am not sure... *thinking : ok, hes got to get the hint now... Man: Ok. * damn, looks like i am disturbing her. Girl: *damn right you are!

I'm gonna be honest here as an Aspie. If you say the right things to girls when you're in a good frame of mind you may be able to get a chat and a flirt, but if you have a social or a genetic malfunction women will smell that a mile off. This videos setting autistic guy's up to fail. We live in a world that's rigged against us and even the nice neurotypicals will show their true colours when it comes to real issues (e.g relationships, employment or legal issues). If you're on the spectrum it's you versus the world.
