_In the Earth Kingdom capital of Ba Sing Se. The former General Iroh, now a fugitive of his homeland, climbed a hill with a single tree that overlooked the city underneath the beautiful orange sky with the sun setting in the distance._ _He took off his bamboo hat and knelt down in front of the tree and began to put something together. First a stone, setting setting it upright and he draped a cloth over said stone. He set some fruit and a sack down as if setting up a picnic. He took out a sheet of paper and examined it for a few seconds before setting it down._ _With no one else around he knew it was safe to light two candles with his fingertips and set them down in front of a makeshift memorial for his deceased son, Lu Ten, who had passed during the great siege which he lead against very city he was taking refuge in. But that battle to him, felt like a lifetime ago_ _"Happy birthday, my son." He would say. Earlier in the day he had helped various people in the market, but he was filled with regret. "If only I could have helped you." He mumbled to himself as tears escaped his eyes and streamed down his cheeks. He then started to sing his heart out._ *_Leaves from the vine_* *_Falling so slow_* *_Like fragile, tiny shells_* *_drifting in the foam_* *_Little soldier boy_* *_comes marching home_* *_Brave soldier boy_* *_comes marching home_* _Iroh could still remember the funeral service that was held back home in his son's honor. That day, his eyes had been opened wide, the cruelest of awakenings, A lesson he will never forget. War comes with a steep cost._

This is the only song I’ve listened to that makes me remember the smiles of the people I used to know a long time ago... or at least I thought I did... most people think the death of one they Love is a great pain... but I’m telling you now... that the death of a relationship is worse... they are still alive and so are you but... what was joy that you knew once one day in another becomes bittersweet sorrow... and you remember and it doesn’t go away... it can be a lesson of your own faults or how to avoid or treat another individual... but after a while you never come out the same... after a while a certain part of a relationship you had with yourself dies.... and you feel that too...

Even if you don't understand the pain somebody is experiencing doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to help them, merely you should just be more mindful when doing so, and be sure to listen so that you might be able to understand them. Some of the most hateful people are those who are in the most pain, whether they're aware or not. In my opinion the best thing you can do for them is to keep the door open, always have the opportunity for them to accept help or be understood there for them. You can't force anybody to change without being unethical or if they have a strong enough will, all you can do is give them the tools for them to change themself. It's up to them if they truly want to change. Just remember, we all experience pain in many ways, to many extents, regardless of who we are.

What I like so much about that moment was that his entire episode was about helping others. Heck, his arc was guiding Zuko and the gaang. Going up to the mountaintop was something completely different. Many wouldn't make the trip up without purpose, and the main purpose was a lone memorial spot. The sun was setting, golden and warm, yet there was a breeze for balance and a tree for shade. After his day in the sun, Iroh was allowed to be alone, in a calm and peaceful place - free to do both what his son wanted (be acknowledged) and what he wanted (to mourn in peace). This is of paramount importance to understanding what heaven might be like. A place where you can smile, remember, breathe, relax, and even cry in the presence of light. It was appropriate that the scene turned still and faded - C'est la vie. Even if not by God, we as people, as sensitive, breathing, loving, social human beings deserve to be rewarded for good deeds - even if it's just a moment in the sun.

I auditioned for Uncle Iroh in the "Book 4: Air - Restoration" project and sang this very song as part of my audition. I understood it as an important part of Iroh's character and the final performance of Mako Iwamatsu, and so I performed from the heart and to the best of my ability. I got the part, with the project director stating "it made me tear up". Not long after, I met Greg Baldwin at a con in PA. I told him I'd be voicing Iroh for the project and, after hearing a demonstration from me, he gave it his seal of approval.

Best Villan Ending in TV History: *Wide shot of a speedboat on the ocean moving quickly* *Slow melancholy music starts to play* *We cut to two men on the boat, one driving, the other seated behind him* In an energetic voice: “The two of us together again, there’s nothing we can’t do!” In an almost frustrated voice: “Yes, Noatak” With a smile, Noatak says: “Noatak *chuckles*…I’d almost forgotten the sound of my own name”. *The melancholy music intensifies* *With a sad contemplating look Tarrlok moves his attention down to the left of the speedboat and eyes an electric glove* *Tarrlok glances up at Noatak while he is still driving then glances back at the electric glove* *He glances at the back of Noatak one more time* *With the electric glove on his right hand he unscrews the cap to the fuel tank with his left hand* He gently says: “*It will be just like the good old days*”. *He places his right hand on top of the open fuel tank* *We cut to Noatak; now with a sad but mostly neutral expression, he still has not turned around* *A tear runs down his left cheek* *The melancholy music fades* *We cut to a wide shot of the boat* *It quickly explodes* *Darkness fades in*

~FULL SONG~ Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy Come marching home Brave little soldier boy Comes marching home . Those leaves did grow From branches overgrown Drifting slowly down Resting on the loam Little soldier boy Taken from home Forced to fight a war That's not his own . Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy says "Carry me home" Sleeping soldier boy Is carried home

Hello future me, If you’re reading this, it means you’re probably sad and you’re going through KZbin playlists trying to cry again. I hope you succeed. We just got ghosted, by the woman we felt incredibly strongly about. Probably the strongest we’ve ever felt. She was the one person who we felt we could actually relate to. The woman who, two weeks prior, said we could come to her with anything and we (she and I) would work through it. The one who actually cared about us. And now she’s gone. And it’s our fault. If only we weren’t so controlling, so jealous. So afraid of losing her. And yet here we are. On the plus, the self harm scars are healing. Or fading, anyway; scars don’t heal, and there’s likely more to come. I hope things are better for you. For us. -me (5/6/22)
