The reason why Scrat isn't in the new movie is quite simple - the designer of the character won a 20-year-long legal battle over the rights to this character with Blue Sky. As it turns out, Blue Sky had her design the character, rejected it, fired her (or maybe she left), and then proceeded to use that design anyway to create Scrat. And they thought it was okaay, because the design was made for them to use anyway, the designer disagreed and they went to court. I'm glad that after fighting over this character for about as long as I'm alive this lady got her funny squirrel back.

She actually never worked for them. She's more famous as a fashion designer and for having a rich dad. She was showing her Sqrat character (which really doesn't look much like Scrat and just has the same name) to various celebrities and studios back around 2000. She got an offer for $50k, but turned it down because she said Sqrat was gonna be the new Mickey Mouse, and worth at least $1 million. Once she started suing Fox they offered her a settlement for $300k which she turned down. She then lost the court case, but appealed it and it's been going on for years. After Disney bought Fox they did a secret settlement with her, which seems to have given her the rights to sell Sqrat t-shirts? But they've recently released "Scrat tales", so they don't seem to have lost the rights to Scrat.

Baby Scat was adorable, I loved the love/hate relationship they had and the slapstick was less body horror and more similar to tom and jerry which I love. This whole movie ignores everything about buck that was established in the third. Literally one of my favorite moments in the movie was was when the heard and buck were leaving the Dino world, and buck heard rudy and goes back and destroys the way to the Dino world. Heard is not his thing, the whole point was that he liked being alone that that worked for him, and that he was the only mammal in the Dino world. Why the fuck would they give him a heard, like it ignores his character. His whole point is that he’s insane loner, who’s only important relationships is the… ummm enemies/lovers one he has with rudy. Also the dinosaurs should not talk. That’s stupid. Buck was good in ice age 3, and he should’ve stayed there. Seriously, even thinking about this trash fire of a movie makes me mad. I like buck as a character, but every time he shows up on screen after 3, just ruins the whole character, and i have elected to just ignore everything that happened after that.

If the next Rio film (yes Disneys making a 3rd Rio film) is anything like Buck Wild. I’m already concerned. From all of the people talking about Rio 3 they hope that some of the original voice actors will return for the instalment. And there some who really want and I mean really want Jesse Eisenberg to return as Blu. And all I ask from Disney for Rio 3 is to at a bare minimum make the movie’s writing passable or make the animation in a close or similar style of Blue Sky and don’t make it look like it’s still in the rendering stage.
