So about the coil whine guys. Like we said in the video, it could be sample to sample variance, not everyone would experience it to that degree AND its most apparent in high framerate situations. We made sure full context was given. But also remember reviewer cards are thoroughly tested by AMD before leaving their facility. In addition, it isn't something we could just overlook and not report.

Welcome to YT you say? Another clickbait attempt, pathetically as usual. Listen "dawg" I´m older than both of you and I´ve been longer on YT and before either one of you even dreamt of becoming a content creator. Also I am following Dimitry and your channel from the very beginning because I like the content, that is why I can stand 100% behind my statement that you were known(and still are occasionally) for clickbaits. So instead getting salty and childish without knowing me or my background and "welcoming me to YT" how about you take the critics for once and do something with it? Just a suggestion....UFD Tech also claims he never puts clickbait titles, shall we ask the audience if that corresponds to the truth? Keep doin your thing, I´ll be around as usual since, as already mentioned, I like the content. Just cut down on the clickbait. Easy, amirite? :)

Just managed to snag a 6800 here in Sweden. Looking forward to that since I'm coming from a gtx 970! So at least one person here who won't be mad at reviewers for stealing all the cards :) Update: Some of the people that had confirmed orders had them cancelled afterwards. I was lucky enough to have a card allocated with my order, so happy about that! However, the retailer hasn't actually received any cards from AMD yet, and they'll only receive about 100 or so. I will get my card in 1-3 weeks. Not a big deal, but obviously the release is rushed - since not even retailers have the, very limited amount of, cards in stock yet.

In Germany they ask 820 EUR for that card, which is inacceptable. I would ditch the card if it were in stock for the 780 of what you paid. I'll wait till supply and demand normalizes or skip the generation entirely. I still have no issues with a 1080ti so I am not in a rush. Nonetheless, german retailers are total scumbags.

I really think the reason AMD went 16gb on all 3 cards is because they're anticipating the future. Everybody is talking about how Smart Access Memory barely makes a difference and then kind of writing it off. What a lot of people aren't considering is that this functionality is one of the core features of both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. The other thing people aren't thinking about is that NONE of the games out on the market have been designed to leverage this technology. In the next one or more years as games are being co developed for the consoles and the PC, I anticipate we are going to start seeing some games come out that you will see some much more serious and consistent performance uplifts from SAM. VRAM is significantly faster than system memory, and having such a large GPU memory pool means that if the game is only using let's say 7 or 8gb, the CPU can then leverage that remaining memory for other functionality in lieu of the system RAM. Anyways, I could be utterly wrong, and perhaps AMD is sort of pulling an Nvidia RTX here and putting this tech out there early to sort of incentivize the industry to start developing software that utilizes it and they all basically ignore it, but I really don't think so. I think the incentive to have an all AMD system is just a proximite benefit and not the ultimate reason, and AMD's marketing is just leveraging that as a side bonus.

It’s very impressive all things considered. 6800XT vs 3080 Pros: Less power consumption More compact design Around the same level of noise Great thermals (especially for the clock speeds being achieved) More Vram for future proofing SAM? Better 1440p performance (within error of margin through). 6800XT vs 3080 Cons: Less Ray tracing performance (for those who care). A worse encoder for streamers and capturing gameplay. No DLSS alternative (although one is coming soon). Generally 5% slower at 4K (but that’s within error of margin and not noticeable to the average person with specialized testing software).

I've probably bought over 1,000 cards since I've gotten into computers (obviously not all for me) And of those cards probably 90% have been Nvidia... My reasons? Oh yea every single AMD card I've purchased has had something wrong with it... Many had the similar coil whine which honestly isn't that big of a deal as long as you're able to refund it or be sent a replacement. But the lack of consistency that I've personally been dealt from AMD has been disappointing. I want to keep giving them chances but don't have any reason to because Nvidia is still on top... And no I'm not a Nvidia fanboy who hates everything and anything AMD, of course I have a Ryzen CPU. I hope AMD get better and better, because the outcome of that is nothing but joy for us.

its kind of amazing how many reviews ive watched now where they outright recommend one card or the other based on one card getting 170fps at 1440p and one card getting 180fps at 1440p. we kind of need to start telling the whole story here, both cards perform amazing in every resolution, the only downside to the most powerful gpu's released in the last few years was 4k performance and ray tracing performance, this is where the new cards literally had to make good progress and for the most part they have but the 6800xt is some ways behind in RT and thats more of a problem than most reviewers are making out, id be shaking in my boots starting up cyberpunk and toggling that RT switch on praying for it to perform great and nobody should be afraid to use the feature on your brand new RT capable top of the line card, the 2080ti got a shit load of stick for not performing good enough and i have to say first time or not AMD should be getting the same stick, its a pretty half arsed attempt at ray tracing and thats not going to be great going forward. pretty fantastic that the cards are genuine high end performers though but yeh, we wasnt lacking fast rasterization performance anyway and i think reviewers are being just a bit too lenient on AMD who have had 2 years of studying 20 series cards to figure out a way to do better in the big standout features, minecraft at 4k with RT on running at 13fps average is just not good enough, and for anybody that has tried minecraft with RT you will know its a bloody nice feature, but not at 13fps.

The 6800XT looks like a great card, but here in the UK its £679.99 vs £719.99 for the cheapest RTX 3080. £40 difference isn't enough to sway the masses. It does create a little bit of competition, but, me personally, as much as I dislike Nvidia - their card has a lot more features than the 6800XT, I'd be willing to pay the difference. If that price gap was a little higher, perhaps £80-£100 cheaper then AMD would be cleaning up.

14:49 I'm pausing right here to tell you about the 40% gain Steve from HUB demonstrated in his review when testing AC: Valhalla using SAM. Sure, it's an outlier but it gives you a glimpse of what SAM is capable of when properly utilized.AMD delivered some MASSIVE gains comapred to RDNA. 15:54 I think this will play out like what happened when AMD made the first unified shader in the early 2000s 16:20 That's because there ARE NO RT performance enhancements for Ampere over Turing. What Nvidia referred to in their launch event turned out to be a hoax because they were comparing 2080Ti to 3080 which has far less raw performance

Traditionally, AMD GPUs are superior in compute workloads but using OpenCL is harder that the proprietary CUDA. Is there a shift in the industry towards a more open standard like OpenCL?

The one thing that used to bug the **** out of me in the US was the in the price on the sticker not matching the price at the till. The decision between the cards might be harder in the UK as their is a price difference of approx £80 between 6800 and 6800Xt or $105 USD

Hey Dimitri thanks for the great vid. All of your content has such a good energy as well as great content. As for the Red vs. Green comparison, I live in Czechia and the prices are set hugely in favor of AMD. The green team has its products waaay above the MSRP (e.g. 3070 costs more around 700 USD) and they are not available whilst AMD really stuck to the MSRP across various retailers. I managed to purchase both the 6800XT and the Ryzen 5 5600X so I am super pleased and cannot wait to test them out. Anyway what I wanted to say is that the cost per frame is totally in favor of AMD since NVidia is selling about 50% above the MSRP. Cheers and keep up the great work! :) UPDATE a few hours later: The retailer has just informed me they cannot deliver the card as they ran out of stock. Scalpers have bought a good deal of the offering and are now selling it with a 50% uplift.

Thank you for your comment on the wasted VRAM. If they had less, but faster memory, it'd be a winner. There's no benefit to more than you need. Hardware Unboxed annoyed me earlier by saying that 3070 has better price/performance, but the extra VRAM makes 6800 worth it. That's a major reversal from previous statements and seems to show bias toward AMD that's a bit dishonest. HC review seems to more honestly demonstrate the pros and cons of the card.

And how's the multimedia support? Nvidia's cards can and often are used to accelerate certain workloads outside the regular gaming areas - thanks to CUDA and NVENC support, those cards can be better utilised, eg. for media decoding/encoding using various formats/codecs at a quality that's quite good and fairly impressive performance, or you can use the HW in several editors for better stabilisation, denoising etc. AMD is focusing on OpenCL/OpenGL instead, its media encoder only recently (as in with the last gen of Radeons) reached the quality levels of the then NVENC versions. But how's the performance and support of the media extensions for the Radeon 6k shaping? After all, if you're buying a card that costs $500+ you'd expect it to be able to both play games and do something more, media being one of the first additional functionalities under microscope... How's the support of those media extensions within linux? I think that the AMD encoder is a Windows-only solution at the moment, but I might be mistaken... How's the support in Handbrake/DaVinciResolve/FFMPEG? How's the support for GPU pass-through and/or vGPU on new AMD Radeons (Nvidia has great offerings and support, but to use vGPUs on their cards you need the Quadro/Tesla/Grid cards, shell out on substantial costs of the additional licenses and run license server, otherwise it's pass-through only for virtualisation)?

I am still curious about AMD's decision to equip the 6800 with 16GB of VRAM instead of 10GB or 12GB. Wonder if they reduced the VRAM would they have been able to have price parity with the 3070 at 500usd? Can the 6800 realistically use all 16GB Vram with it completely utilized and the GPU still be have good performance in the game/software it is running in? With SAM as well, I am honestly curious. Since the 6800, 6800XT and eventually 6900XT have 16gb of VRAM, I wonder if there is a way to reduce available VRAM via software to try and see if there is a performance hit with SAM for each RDNA2 card if it was set at 8gb or 12gb VRAM being detected. This is assuming that the game has a good SAM Performance increase with default 16gb VRAM. Just a curiosity because with Nvidia saying they'd enable their version for resizeable BAR, I wonder how that would be for a card like the 3070 where it only has 8gb of VRAM to work with, then a 1440p game say uses around 6gb of VRAM to run it well, leaving only 2gb max to work with resizeable bar... would there even be a benefit with the more limited free VRAM? Linux has had resizeable BAR for a while so I wonder what they have to say about resizeable bar benefits for when they use the 5700XT that only had 8gb of VRAM, along with the "less efficient" architecture of Zen+ or Zen 2 when compared against Zen3?
