The Moody Blues music has always been among my favorite of the modern music era. Moody(no oun intended), bluesy, progressive, symphonic, ethereal, spacey, otherwordliness...take these diff tunes...Nights in White Satin, Tuesday Afternoon, Just A Singer ( in a rock n roll band), No More Lies, Forever Autumn ( yes, I know, Justin on his own). Nothing sounds like them and in the early days light years ahead if it's time. Light years. Only the Moodies thought to incorporate symphonic music and deep poetry into an album (Days of Future Passed). So..."Breathe deep the gathering gloom my fellow music lovers. For a cold hearted orb rules the nite, hides the colors from our site. Red is grey, yellow, white. BUT WE DECIDE WHICH IS RIGHT. AND WHICH IS AN ALLUSION." Brilliance without parallel from the Moody Blues!!!!! 9:14

Your musical reviews of the Moody Blues are introspective with the right kind of focus and analysis. Thank you. I first heard the Moody Blues in 1971 and I saw them in concert at the Baltimore Civic Ctr, Baltimore, MD in the Fall ‘72 (Mike Pinder was still on board), and once more in 2014 at the Paramount Theater in Seattle, Ray Thomas had retired, but Norda Mullen did well in his place. Moody Blues music always intrigued me, added to my sense of intuition, calmed me, made me more thoughtful, yet more aware. The music even facilitated my first serious approach (years ago) to the study of philosophy. ‘Voices’ is no different. I am a western Christian male, a friend of Israel, a retired U.S. Army warfighter, retired educator, a world traveler, a failed husband and a Dad who spent too much away from home. Adding to what I already said, the music of the Moody Blues is of the highest quality for helping me keep my sanity during the dark moments, and for keeping alcohol and drugs at considerable distance.

Harri, you nailed it....their overall theme has always been about the journey within seeking peace. They managed to convey this from the 60's thru their various changes into the 90's. I had gone to see Justin perform back in May. During the show, he told a little story about the song. During the writing and recording of it, he couldn't decide on a title, simply giving it a number (which he didn't specify but as it's the opening track of Long Distance Voyager, it's probably #1). He was indecisive about it right up until the album labels were about to be printed. The technician told him, "This is your last chance." Maybe feeling a little premonition, he had the wherewithal to bring the song's lyrics with him. He took a hard look at the lyrics, and the line "the voice within" stood out. He finally turned to the guy and told him to call it "The Voice." Sometimes even the artist can struggle with the meaning of their works, but serendipity can bring out a moment of clarity.

"The Voice" is the opening tune off of the 1981 album, 'Long Distance Voyager' which was a #1 record. Another beautiful song from the masterful Justin Hayward. The album features new keyboardist, Patrick Moraz, who joined the band after original member Mike Pinder quit the group shortly after the Moody Blues released the 1978 album, 'Octave.' I was lucky enough to see them for the first time in 1981. Outstanding show!! ✌😊

I grew up listening to this group & they are one of my favorites from the 60's-80's. They have had so many hit songs. Love their mix of rock with classical music. "The Voice" is from their 1981 Long Distance Voyager album. The Moody Blues' most successful singles include "Go Now", "Nights in White Satin", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question", "Gemini Dream", "Your Wildest Dreams" etc. But all of their music is great. Sadly we lost Graeme Edge their drummer in November of last year.

Hi Harri, I've got another couple of Moody Blues suggestions for you. They are both from albums released a few years after the one this song was taken from. "Your Wildest Dreams", from "The Other Side of Life" (1986) and "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" from "Sur La Mer" (1988). If you watch the official videos, please watch them with "Your Wildest Dreams" first. The official videos tell a story when played back to back, so watching in the correct order helps understand the story.

Yes! 💯% Order of these two videos, if the official videos can be used, is essential. The story is definitely fiction, since neither Hayward nor Lodge were founding members of the Moody Blues, but the story portrayed is awesome, regardless. 💖

@tennislover5763
@tennislover5763 2 ай бұрын
I would label it symphonic fusion because you have the introduction where the listener hears the sound of the orchestra and keyboard synthesizer. Then you have the rock and roll part with Justin on his Gibson Red 335 guitar and John on his Bass. Justin incorporated a beautiful guitar riff in the middle that takes the listener into more synthesized fusion. All in all, The Moody Blues write songs that the listener visualizes the crescendos and decrescendos of the waves of music. Love the music of the Moody Blues because as a fan and avid listener each song is a surprise note of composition!

After recording their incredible 7 album run they took a 6 year break, released solo albums before reconvening but for me they weren't the same. I have forgotten about the song. Another one of their songs with a great deal of urgency and probably my all-time favorite by Moody Blues is the song called, I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band. it's funny but it's serious, it's emotional, it's technically fantastic, and the singing is so incredible.

Not crazy at all Harri! That is exactly what it has always meant to me. When this song came out it felt as if it was specifically written for me, haha! Those lyrics really spoke to me and still do. Not only one of my top fave Moody songs, but one of my top faves by anyone!

A great song that reactors don't do of theirs is 'One more time to Live'. Very socio-philosophical song.

This has an ELO vibe to it, like Evil Woman or All around the world.

The two most beautiful Moody Blues songs are actually from solo work. Justin Hayward's "Forever Autumn" and Ray Thomas's "Migration".

The Voice Song by The Moody Blues LyricsVideosListen Won't you take me back to school? I need to learn the Golden Rule Won't you lay it on the line? I need to hear it just one more time Oh, won't you tell me again? Oh, can you feel it? Oh, won't you tell me again tonight? Each and every heart, it seems Is bounded by a world of dreams Each and every rising sun Is greeted by a lonely one Oh, won't you tell me again? Oh, can you feel it? Oh, won't you tell me again tonight? Tonight 'Cause out on the ocean of life, my love There's so many storms we must rise above Can you hear the spirit calling As it's carried across the waves? You're already falling It's calling you back to face the music And the song that is coming through You're already falling The one that it's calling is you Make a promise, take a vow And trust your feelings, it's easy now Understand the voice within And feel a change already beginning Oh, won't you tell me again? Oh, can you feel it? Oh, won't you tell me again tonight? Oh, won't you tell me again? Oh, can you feel it? Oh, won't you tell me again tonight? Tonight And how many words have I got to say? And how many times will it be this way? With your arms around the future And your back up against the past You're already falling It's calling you on to face the music And the song that is coming through You're already falling The one that it's calling is you Each and every heart, it seems Is bounded by a world of dreams Each and every rising sun Is greeted by a lonely, lonely one Won't you tell me again? Oh, can you feel it? Oh, won't you tell me again tonight? Oh, won't you tell me again? Oh, can you feel it? Oh, won't you tell me again tonight? Tonight Oh, can you feel it? Oh, won't you tell me again tonight?
