I've been using the remarkable 2 for about 3 years now and I love it. I use it primarily for work but also some personal stuff too. I am fortunate in that since I was an early adopter, I have free subscription to all of the premium features. The updates have been consistent throughout the 3 years I've owned it and it has only gotten better because of them. Most people miss the point of this device and comment that they can use another tablet or their phone to accomplish the same thing without the price, but for me it is a purpose built device and it does what it does very well. Comparing it to an android or IOS tablet is not an accurate comparison. I ordered the Paper Pro this morning and I'm very excited to try out some of the new features. Thanks for the review Austin!

I think many people making comments about the tablet aren't users of the original Remarkable tablet. While it does have a hefty price, it is marketed for the enthusiasts who need it. I paid for my first tablet myself and that money could have gotten me an iPad and stylus, but the difference for me as a uni student was the distractions and the focus it gave me to study. I am also a stylophile and journaller, where I appreciate writing, pens and pencils thus making me appreciate the tablet some more. The battery life is amazing, the writing experience is very enjoyable rather than me carrying notebooks and it also replaces the need for my eBook. While the subscription was not ideal, I survived without the need for it and can still enjoy using my tablet. People will spend money on what they will enjoy that others might not which we all need to understand, for me a Remarkable was one, for others it might be something like a dedicated walkman/device for music and so on. Phones and tablets can do many things but sometimes we enjoy something that does the one specific thing really well.

There seems to be confusion about who would NOT buy at this price. Let me enlighten you: - Blue light does not damage your eyes, that's a myth. And what prevents one from using non-E-Ink devices is not glare, it's backlight/oleds not being strong enough to view content, not glare -While it has a big screen, the benefit is a large canvas, not 'reading books'. Almost no books are A4, so your conclusion on the second point is moot. - A lot of companies won't steal your data anyway, and for a lower price. But yes, it might be worth the privacy. - It's still rather expensive even for the innovation and style. Utility is rather more important than form.

At a significantly higher price than most other colour e-ink devices (with a subscription on top I might add), the inch or two size difference is not a big selling point, especially given how the implementation of the colour on Gallery 3 is also significantly lacking compared to the Kaleido 3 standard (even given its improvement over the previous iteration), since the latter can take advantage of high refresh modes on ordinary b/w panels giving it a pretty similar experience to a normal android tablet beyond the admittedly limited colour range. Furthermore, other devices have Google Play integration, meaning you can download all the book and comic apps you like instead of having to find workarounds to de-drm all your kindle or kobo content and then side-load it. Also, other devices actually have a usable front-light.

No e-ink device is going after generic iPad or laptop users except in the very broad sense that they offer a more analogue feeling experience and one that can be perceived as more free from distractions/mindless doomscrolling than those devices - both fairly popular trends these days. Most e-ink devices are going after either readers or writers or both. Kindles are so popular because the reading experience on e-ink is frankly a million miles better than a tablet screen, and ReMarkable is popular because the writing experience is also pretty solid for people who can’t deal with the (lack of) feeling of a plastic stylus on glass. If you take notes all day every day for your job, the benefit of the screen and lack of cumbersome pen+paper might matter. Does it matter enough to drop this kind of money on a promising tech demo of a previously awful colour technology? Not for me, but it feels like enough of a step up for real innovation to be closer than before.

I'm sorry over $1000 CAD for this? Why the hell would I not just grab a screen protector that makes my current tablet into one of these for $20? This seems like a great idea, until they shove all this additional technology into it that raises the price. Even the model down is over $600 CAD once you pic their magic pen or whatever. Too many companies want a piece of the tech market yet come in so noncompetitive.

@officialANON0012 ай бұрын
Exactly
@mtrxty2 ай бұрын
Sure. But for an e ink device the price is nuts. 629$ is the price of a good iPad with better support for apps, it's not just a note taking device but also an entertainment and in general a productivity device. It can do so much more than these tablets. I know what the point of an e ink display is, but burning so much money for this just isn't worth
@DrGrrr-ho7sb2 ай бұрын
@@mtrxtysays sure, then completely ignores what the comment is saying. The point is that this type of device has an entirely different use case than an ipad. If an ipad works for you go for it, the people who are buying this type of product don’t just want an ipad. I genuinely don’t understand why so many people like you sought out videos about this device just to convince consumers that they should instead get a completely different product that serves a completely different purpose.

@@mtrxty iPads are terrible to take notes on weird paper screen protector or not. These devices are a luxury of course but the people buying them take notes every day and do not like the downsides of paper. They are big in offices and schools. Its closest competitor is BOOX and frankly they are trash. I went from iPad to BOOX to ReMarkable. This is for people who hate paper but understand typing notes is not productive.
@NigraXXL2 ай бұрын
reMarkable will hopefully learn not to sponsor videos with creators who do not understand their product and won't do proper research about them in the future. This probably did more damage to their image than good, as nothing about why devices like this exist, why this one in particular is revolutionary, and many other very relevant things were explained to viewers. Most people who watch this and aren't familiar with this product category just make the (understandable, when not knowing any better) mistake of comparing it to regular tablet or say it's overpriced without understanding much of anything about why this is actually an incredible device that most people who are into the buzzing (albeit niche) eTablet community are losing their minds over.

@TheVorst2 ай бұрын
I understand what you say, but I have both a iPad Pro and eink device (Supernote 6X2). There is not a comparison, as a paper replacement when using a pen. eInk has Up to 2 week battery live, handwriting text looks and feel way better, less fatigue to the eyes, almost feel like writing on paper, user interface optimised for writing/reading, drawing/painting on it is way more natural. The iPad is a more a consuming content device and the Eink in general a more creative device. The reason that Eink is more expensive, because the market is much smaller for those devices. Is it for not everybody no, as said in the video. This is my 2 cent.

@Audioremedy07852 ай бұрын
The reality is that if you can’t distinguish between an iPad and what this is for then it’s 100% not the product for you. It’s not so much about having a wide range of features. It’s about being the best in class in what it does. And as a user it 100% is.
