My ex wife was a restaurant manager, one particular establishment she worked at had 4 walk offs in the 2 years she was there, sadly they were all pensioners and in each case it happened on a Thursday lunchtime when they did an "OAP 2 for one lunchtime special" and they would invariably turn up in their shiny new car and ask for "2 glasses of tap water". The last ones were actually caught trying to leave and The police attended.

To be fair. If pensioners. Did they forget? I've done it, had my meal, and drove home. Only remembered once home. Though I rang them, told them what I'd done and paid over the phone. There is however a lot of deliberate walk offs along with shoplifting. I believe if under £200 there's little police interest.

@@yamark02 no mate, the last pair that did were heard saying "I'll go to the loo, you bring the car around and I'll nip out the side door" I pulled my van across the carpark to stop them leaving and my wife called the law, unbelievably they turned up and the pensioners tried to get them on side saying that I was "unlawfully holding them prisoner" but the police weren't having it and told them if they didn't pay immediately they would be arrested on suspicion of theft. I'm fairly certain that they were never going to arrest them but they paid then hurled a tirade of abuse at my wife, me and the police before they drove away.

The owner should have asked them to leave the moment that started kicking off they don't pay enough to give abuse to any front of house staff. If your not happy with something you can still put your case without being abusive there is just no need for it. What about circulating there picture to all food establishments in Whitby warning them to get the money up front before they will be served any food these places need to stick together.

Hey Simon AL Taco 🌮 😋 Great food, friendly service But some despicable people take advantage of this. They fill their fat faces with food and then argue the prices afterwards. Leaving without paying is just wrong 😮 Yes ... Years ago, this happened In a Indian restaurants, when young lads on the sauce had , had too many sherbets and left without paying. Not a small business like this ,giving it a go In Whitby with so much Competition around from other restaurants . It happens regardless, the only good thing to come out of this is that you've managed to shame the odd couple by showing mugshots. Hopefully, somebody watching this reports them to the police. Excellent work by Simply whitby and who ever linked this to the Harrogate case. Sure helps the police if they were not already on it. However I'm against burdening the innocent with pre-payment. For one thing having paid I'm discouraged from ordering say a coffee/tipple to finish. And among other problems for the client would be recovery of payment if the food is not good or service badly delayed. Not all businesses are like this TexMex. The alternative is for judges to get serious and ensure recovery of stolen money and deterrent sentencing. As well as the show and shame approach demonstrated her. Just my tuppence worth. Cheers
