What makes the Assoiation so unique is that that had 6 band members doing the voacals for harmonizing. The usual rock group of the era used a lead and backup for harmonizing but the Association could provide multiple layers of vocals for a deep and rich sound. My favorite memory song of the 60's.

Two of their songs, "Windy," and "Never My Love," have received more radio plays than 99.99% of all other songs. The structure of "Cherish" is particularly brilliant, with that incredibly long "bridge" that goes into new melodic territory. In 1966, this was voted the top song of the year in the New York area. I would have gone with "Good Vibrations," but it's still a brilliant tune.

Now do you understand why we as kids turned on the radio just as soon as we got home from school!... We knew something profound was waiting for us e.v.e.r.y. d.a.y!!! It was our lifeline to beauty, to love, to wisdom, to humor, to knowing ourselves and each other when our parents didn't necessarily know how to provide that. We were enveloped, loved, educated, surprised, excited and grateful when that radio came on. And we had great national dj's like Casy Kasem and Wolfman Jack serving it to us with their humor and wit and wisdom. We were scared and overwhelmed and confused by the world events of the times and the music helped us understand and cope and escape and grow through it. It's our DNA. We imprinted on it like a baby imprints on its mother. I honestly don't know how I would have survived the news at dinnertime without three ours of music beforehand feeding me and supporting me and preparing me. Whew! Thanks for reading...

This song gives me chills, it is so wonderful hearing your comments and knowing that others really get the emotion that the artists were trying to convey in their songs. I saw the Association perform many different times in person! They were phenomenal. I was so fortunate that I lived in LA back in the 70's and early 80's and got to see many of the famous performers of that time live. The Association often came to play at a play called the John Wayne Theater in an amusement park called Knott's Berry Farm. I tried never to miss their shows when they came. The harmonies are so crystal. You are so right though, these songs do speak of a love that we all feel and want deep down, but that the last couple of generations somehow forgot or were never taught to know how to express and believe in. Being able to put the tenderest of feelings into poetry or music is one of man's highest art forms.
