Actually , I own a ""Coleman Propane Tree"" . Bought it long ago at our big box Hardware store ..... and no it wasn't HD or Lowes oe Rona or Wally World etc. Its base properly fits onto the bbq tank. Then the tree goes vertically from the tank and has three ports for the hose that you use for your Coleman stove and other Coleman appliances that run similarly .

Great instruction, but I find the part about the weight a little confusing. My understanding is NET WEIGHT is the weight of the contents, exclusive of the container. For example, if a can of instant coffee shows the net weight as 375g, that is the weight of the coffee inside, and not the coffee and the can. Therefore that 1 lb propane tank should be one pound plus the weight of the tank. I always weigh each new container and mark the full weight on it, then refill it until it is close to that weight. You may have meant that, but my old brain didn't intake it quite that way. :)

You definitely want to try to get the receiver tank (small one) as cold as possible and the supply tank (20lb) warm (room temp.) Propane's vapor pressure is significantly changed in a typical (0F - 70F) temperature range. Incidentally, this is why it makes an excellent refrigerant for HVAC (R290) if everybody could just get over their overblown fears. At 0F, propane is about 25psi and 120psi at 70F.

Problem with putting propane in a HVAC system is the quantity needed in a home is enough to blow a hole through your walls (If it leaks and ignites)... I guess for small air conditioners/appliances it would be good..

Nice tip, but a bit of additional advise; Clean your 1lb propane bottle with a carbon steel wire brush to remove rust or corrosion before making the connection. Brass fitting threads are very soft, and iron oxide is very abrasive.

All you are doing by bleeding it that way is boiling off the liquid propane and lowering the temperature of the liquid already inside. Same effect as the freezer. The better way is to use a pair of forceps and carefully pull on the core of the Schrader valve on the side of the green tank and vent some of the gas as you continue to fill from the larger tank. You are trying to vent the gas to lower the pressure in the receiver tank (green here) to allow more liquid to flow over. If the source tank is not hooked up and able to flow liquid while you are venting all you are doing is wasting gas. There is no air in the tank, only liquid propane and gaseous propane. As soon as you vent the gas some of the liquid boils off to replace what was removed to maintain pressure. I use the tanks until they are completely empty then weigh them to get the tare weight, then add 16 oz (one pound) to get the fill weight. Write at least the tare weight on the side of the tank. I also keep a tally of how many times I have refilled that tank. I use the flame king refill adapter with the disposable tank mod to fill them. I tried a hose system like you have but I couldn't get the tank to fill for some reason so I got it as a sanity check and it works great.

@@garagekeys I'm not saying you need to buy the flame king manifold. If you can make your own cheaper, or better go for it, but when I priced out the parts the pre built manifold was cheaper than the parts I had available at the time and the one I made myself wasn't working correctly. My tank may have not been full enough, I'm not sure, but I haven't had any problems with either since. My comment was on the procedure not the equipment, except maybe a recommendation for forceps to pull the Schrader stem.

Is the connection for the 1 pound tank the same as a 20 pound tank or do you need a converter connection to hook it up to your gas grill?
@thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259
@thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259 5 ай бұрын
Converter is necessary, the 1lb bottle thread is 1 inch with 20 threads per inch (1-20). I use a converter hose to run my campstove on a 20lb propane tank, I also have a 5lb propane tank for portability, the same hose converter works with both of these tanks. I also have an adapter hose to refill the 5lb tank from a 20lb (or larger) tank.

This is nice to know in an emergency but I would not do this in practice. I use those brass caps only.when I take the bottle off the heater or stove. Even new ones tend to leak over time. So it's nice to have that extra seal. I'm not saying you should not post this video but I am saying don't refuel unless you have to. They are plentiful now. A five dollar bottle at Sam's club. It's not worth getting hurt to save 5.00 dollars. My 15 pound bottle cost to refill is about 12.00 dollars I would use the big bottle. Whenever possible. 73

I dont trust those little spring loaded shut off disks inside those disposable bottles to always seal perfectly every time long term- they are after all designed to be used once and thrown away and not refilled.

If you are someone that is not comfortable with what Dave is showing, go buy a bunch of 1lb propane tanks and keep them in a cool, dry place. Don't leave them in a damp, wet basement or out in the sun. 1lb tanks have so many uses. Remember to respect and understand propane. Its not a toy.

These cylinders weigh about 1lb when empty and two pounds full. I find putting them in the freezer about 15 minutes will generally allow them to accept 1lb of liquid but I encourage everyone to weigh them afterward and make sure they aren't overfilled. It's perfectly fine if they're a few ounces shy of full weight but not more because the liquid propane needs expansion space too allow for thermal expansion.

WHICH COULD CAUSE A DANGEROUS SPARK AND EXPLOSION! All commercially sold Propane bottles are never filled to more than 80% (+/-) capacity to allow for liquid-to-gas expansion when there is a temperature rise. A 20# propane bottle could hold approximately 25# (+/-) of liquid propane but will have no room for gas expansion when the temperature rises. Filling a 1# bottle, from the freezer, to capacity runs the risk of a leak or worse as the pressure increases in the bottle in warmer weather. Also, propane storage must be a careful consideration as propane gas will pool in the area of the leak just as water would pool. Propane gas will NOT dissipate like natural gas in the event of a leak. This is a great hack in the event of an emergency but extreme caution is imperative. But filling several 1# bottles for storage is literally playing with fire. Thanks.
