I also know my history and appreciate those who paved the way for me so that i can live my best life today, and not use my history as an excuse to hold me back. Black history had nothing to do with my mom and dad life choices. No white man made them choose the lifestyle they lived. It was their l8fe choices and departure from God that allowed them to be influenced by sin. Remember everything we do in life is a choice regardless of whoever may try and stop you. Amen, my brother, the biggest privilege is having a father in your home who is married to your mother and works hard every day and doesn't have a single baby mama out there. Fathers are the source of Privilege. These races that seem privileged simply have their fathers around to raise them with stability.

I learned accounting, marketing and a lot of stuff in school. But that's because I picked my own classes and instead the letting a counselor limit me. Real education comes from a willingness to learn. Your parents can't teach you what they don't know. But that doesn't mean you can't learn it yourself. School and local libraries have a ton of books. I learned the most by teaching myself. You can't expect any teacher's basic methods to be understandable to every person they teach. I learned the most when I stopped depending on teacher's overcomplicated methods to solve simple problems.

@CJ Zanders My thoughts exactly. Individuals who care to concern themselves with whatever advantages others may have will go crazy. As you stated, one’s concerns are best focused completely on using one’s own advantages to create the best situation possible. In doing so one is being respectfully appreciative for having those advantages. To not do so, due to expending mental energy being concerned with the perceived advantages of others, is to not have complete respect and appreciation for one’s own advantages. I have only restated your point with less brevity. But it is a perspective I share and feel strongly about that I could not help but co-sign at length.

Is the base expectation really a "privilege"? I'd argue the lack of the base expectation is a deficit, not that the existence of the base expectation is a privilege. The oligarchy who is bankrupting all of us ($35 trillion in government debt is going to be squeezed out of a LOT of white people, too!) wants to take most everything away from ALL of us, so they will want to FRAME the basics as "privilege," since "privileges" are ELIMINATED in an "equal" society (not their privilege to create and control money, though!). Just consider the concepts, and use them as you will.

An affluent, thriving, self sufficient neighborhood, that could take care of every need from health, to financial, to Spiritual to entertainment. We will not be healthy until we can restore community. And as a whole return back to God, who has promised to heal our land if we repent and turn back to Him. Until then we are just achieving random success that you would have to be an anomaly in order to duplicate. I want to see a time when black excellence is the rule and not the exception.

My favorite answer is spirituality. It is the most important thing to me. I communicate to a higher being almost all the time. I don’t care about money as long as I am not hungry or living on the streets. I really don’t need much to be happy. Family is important too. If we are all happy with having everything that helps us survive and feel secure, we should be happy. There are countries that I would not want to be. Some countries torture their people. The United States is a great place. I hate the death penalty for anyone. I was taught to be against it a long time ago. I listened. It makes sense if you ponder hard about it.

definitely schools should be educating on financial success, I remember learning basics in school. We learned how to write cursive, sign checks and how to write them and we had an accounting class one year but it seems all that has disappeared. It wasn't until college and my adult life I knew what interest was and how to become financially stable after being in debt. She's got a great point on how sad it is. We as an entire population are not set up to have success when we are not educated on something essential to live.

Yes, I'm white. Yes, I'm old. When I went to school in a little rural town in Oregon in the 70s in a very mixed race school. We were required to take a Personal Finance class ... all of us, in order to graduate ... which taught us about checking and savings accounts, how to balance them, purchasing a home and the types of mortgages, building retirement, the whole nine yards. My grandchildren were not taught any of these things in their high school career. They twins are still in high school, but taking college courses ... but there weren't even classes available for them to take had they wanted to. Fortunately, they get that education in the home, but not every child is that fortunate. I truly believe these things MUST be taught in school. It would do a world of good for many students ... regardless of race or income level.

My mother was brilliant who did not have the opportunity to attend college. I watched her balance her checkbook in her head. I would hear her say, "My checking account is low. It's only $2990.00." I often joke about this with my daughter saying when my account is low, it's a different low!

I think the two gentlemen in front hit the nail on the head. There are words that we all have subjective AND objective understanding or views on. I tend to be more pessimistic which isn't a good thing at all! Maybe positivity is more special than I or We understand. Accountability for how I react to words and/or others perceptions too. ❤

I truly enjoyed the conversations of this series. You have a lot of successful black people that have worked hard to improve themselves. It would be interesting to hear this conversation from the side of some that are not so successful. I believe that those that have been successful should come back to help those that are struggling. Black people are an economic engine that help too many other communities thrive instead of their own.

The racial wealth gap is a very real thing. We(American Decendents of Slavery) have no wealth to pass down and the gap continues to widen. If you have that degree but have thousands of dollars in debt, what will you be passing on? The 28 year old is being honest about what is happening.

It really isn’t. Over 70% of generational wealth is lost before the second generation. If you’re having issues with wealth it’s more correlated to an individual’s financial literacy than historical injustices that didn’t even directly effect you.

14:39 One of the panelists said it's sad that finance is not taught in school. No, what's sad is that home management is not taught at home and passed down from generation to generation. This is how it's been done for centuries until recently. This is why it wasn't a part of core curriculum. The more we got comfortable having someone else teach our children, the more we kept passing responsibilities on to schools. It's sad that schools had to add home economics, heath class, etc... because these things were taught in the home. It's sad that parents forgot that schools are not responsible for their children's education, the parents are. The school is just a tool. On the other hand no matter what I think, it's far sadder not to have learned these things at all. So I concede to say let's get these subjects in the schools with the understanding that once our kids are educated, we need to go back to teaching in the home and passing down these lessons as a priority over basic survival once they are grown. Because let's be real, public education systems, as we know it, aren't working, and they may not be accessible in the future.
