I am honestly so damn jealous of that blessing. I was born in 94 and got raised on the culture from my fathers youth and always wished i was born at least like 40 years earlier :( at least some of the spirit from that time got preserved. I mostly listen to live stuff from back then and it makes me feel more than pretty much everything i experienced from "my time" Keep Space Truckin' 🤟👹❤

This song was born on a tour bus going to Portsmouth in 1971 when a reporter asked the band how they wrote songs. To demonstrate, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore grabbed an acoustic guitar and began playing a riff consisting of a single "G" repeated over and over, while vocalist Ian Gillan improvised lyrics over the top about driving in a fast car. The song was refined and was performed that same night.[5] The song first appears on the 1972 LP Machine Head. The track remains one of the band's staples in live concerts, and was the set opener even before it was released on any album.

May 30, 1973, New York's Felt Forum. One month after Made in Japan came out in the states. The legendary Rory Gallagher opened. Yes, it was a bit of a loud evening. An amazing show from Purple. Turn on the FM radio in 1973 and eventually you're going to hear "Smoke on the Water" or "Highway Star" off the "Machine Head" album. Biz, I hope you'll play "Woman From Tokyo" or "Mary Long" from 1973's "Who Do We Think We Are" album. They were certainly a supergroup, Blackmore, Gillan, Lord, Glover, Paice. One of the best.

This video demonstrates how in so many old film and TV shows, the camera man would not show the person that was actually playing or singing. They barely showed Ritchie during his guitar solo. I think many of them didn't understand music. Or maybe it was the director. Who knows. Anyhow, it's frustrating. Maybe they thought the bass was the guitar.

If you are reacting to videos, watch movies. Yes I know this is your thing but 90 odd percent of the time the studio will be superior to live ! Back in our time before MTV the only time we seen bands was to go see them or if we were lucky catch them on Ed Sullivan or as a guest on a talk show. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has said this about live vs studio. But it kills some of us you are only cheating yourself by hearing only half of what you can and that go's for me wasting time here with live. Keep in mind Some of us are here to relive with you what it was like for us the FIRST time hearing this stuff . Peace

Great music, but probably the WORST Director of any music video anytime, anywhere. He, or she, managed to MISS EVERYTHING of note in the entire song. I know it was early on in the music video business, but how hard is it to hear where the action is and then point the camera at it. PLEASE. Richie Blaclmore and Jon Lord's solos were almost completely missed, while the director kept the cameras on Singer Ian Gillan, Bassist Roger Glover and Drummer Ian Paice. They are all great, but that wasn't where the action was. Geeez.
@Wilburnator Жыл бұрын
The video you're seeing is not from the actual recording on "Made in Japan", it's just pieced together from other performances to match up to the audio as much as possible. My guess is they were trying not to give that away to easily, by showing Ritchie play one guitar solo, while you're hearing an entirely different one.
@michaelkarlsson5966 Жыл бұрын
@@Wilburnator actually the video is from one performance earlier the same year. The video is taken from "Live in Denmark '72" and let me tell you it's just as awful with the original audio. It gets better into the concert but this "Highway star" is awful with the cameras. The whole Denmark concert is great but doesn't have the same good sound quality as the "Made in Japan" recording which is the audio.
@michaelkarlsson5966 Жыл бұрын
I agree. How hard can it be? But then again, back in those days it wasn't the same as in more recent times. Who knows what kind of orders the camera people got? "Just film" maybe. Definitly not "stay on the guitarist" 🤣
