All I'm saying is that since this movie TECHNICALLY poses Sharkboy and Lavagirl as real people in the real world, we can only assume that Max has become an ethereal godlike being who's dreams have become so powerful and potent as to affect the real world. From this, we can see that MAX HIMSELF is the reason why everything is going on, and is this the reason behind the actions of both the aliens and the Heroics group. He is both the antagonist and the protagonist of the movie.

So this movie basically has the same plot as the 4th Spy Kids movie: a parent must stop being part of an organization that saves the world because of their family, a big problem appears so they have to go back to action, the main kids go to the organization HQ where they get locked up for their safety, the entire organization gets defeated, the children escape but the adults try to stop them, an old family friend helps them, and at the end they realize the bad guy was the leader of the organization. It even has the same villain twist where if you play with the name letters you discover the villain (they just spelled it backwards instead of an anagram). Yikes.
