The reason it's not master chief is cause when the devs of that fighting game asked bungie if they could put chief in, it was post halo 3 and chief was frozen in deep space. Steve is literally play minecraft in a different game. It isn't interesting in the slightest...just straight weird. But incorporating actual games within a game as a character's kit and making sure it works as intended at all levels is truly an impressive feat. Porting minecraft over to smash simply isn't that interesting as utilizing poker hand buffs in a high octane air dasher like Arcana heart. Or the absolute insane nonsense that you can do in P4A already adding a unique win con minigame to a character.

For me weird looking characters are a norm, if you're making a fighting game you need to fulfill that 1 weird character checklist. Weird mechanical characters on the otherhand are actually interesting and cool in how they function. Bigs in the Sonic fighting game has a fishing mechanic. Arcsys has no lack of weird gameplay characters like the baseball guy from Persona.

Faust is a great example of a completely off the wall character both visually and gameplay-wise with his wacky supers and being like, the only character in Guilty Gear with an RNG element AFAIK, danger time aside. He's got the single most expensive tension usage in Strive and it has nearly as much chance of killing him and the opponent.

I'm suprised the Nekos didn't come up, yeah Neko Arc is kind of an overplayed joke by now (ironically more by people outside of the melty/tsukihime community than the actual fanbase), but one has to admit that they nailed the job of being joke characters. @@meltyheart8 So you know how in a proper disjoint (let's take Lucinas Sword for example) the hitbox of your attack extends beyond your own hurtbox? This is always really powerful, in any fighting game, and it's often what makes the very best pokes so good. The ability to exert pressure while keeping yourself safe. Neko Arc Chaos also has attacks where he stretches something out, for example by tranforming his arm into a centipede. However, during almost all of these attacks which make up a huge part of his kit, the hitbox of the move stays pitifully small while his own hurtbox extends to *ridicoulous* sizes. So in loads of situations where a real disjoint would beat the opponents move and even a standard move would at least trade hits, NAC just gets dunked on.

If anyone from Arcana Heart should have been nominated it should have been Eko, or Kira. Eko is a 5 year old who rides around on the back of a drawing she made that fights for her, & Kira is a girl in a swimsuit, inside of a giant ball of water that she controls, and is easily one of the most ridiculous looking grapplers in any fighting game. Also Ochamaru Karakuri is definitely the weirdest Samurai Shodown character. It's basically if you crossed a living puppet with a battlebot, then made it huge.

Kinoko main here! The rock falling super is fun, but where it's really at is the 2nd super where Kinoko just sits down, stretches her arms out, and if you get too close she just throws you into the heavens. That combined with a Mario-like ability to repetitively jump on opponents, a Peach-like ability to hover in the air (by wagging your tail), and the ability to do a digging teleport to basically anywhere adds up to making Kinoko one of my favorite fighting game characters ever.

2 years late so for Diaboromon, it dors make sense because he is one of the Final Boss fron the game (and the anime) His "Laser" can be neutralized with any ranged attack, including a small fireball from Agumon. However, the explosion of the laser will stay for a few seconds longer than most "fireball" attack and will still hit you if you touch it.

Bit of an obscure pick but Gustavo from The Black Heart is one of the examples that comes to mind. It's a character that is constipated with ridiculously slow and low damage normals. There's one way to damage the opponent though, after doing moves, there's a random chance a fart cloud will fly out of gustavo, which includes a larger fart that does really high damage for no reason.

Samurai Shodown has a lot of these, including but not limited to: - 20th US President Andrew Jackson but as a long-haired bishonen with a musket naginata and thigh-high riding boots - Kuroko, the referee present in all matches who does not fight with a weapon but with Bajiquan as a secret boss - Kusaragedo, a deeply unpleasant looking, massive ogre cannibal who mainly fights with his sharpened elbow bone. Is inexplicably one of the best users of Samsho V Special's meditation mechanic. - Yoshitora Tokugawa, in terms of gameplay. He wields seven swords, primarily using six normal sized ones for various normals. If he is able to use every single one of his specific sword normals, he unlocks The Seventh Sword, which is basically a super that's not a super. Fast, powerful projectile that is twice the height of the screen and goes full screen, and can spam these until the opponent is dead in the round he got the last Sword in.
