Do you ever give your piglets something colorful to play with like a couple of large balls? Have you ever thought about putting clean sand or stones in the bottom of the water barrels to add weight to them? Just watching and thinking of things that I would try if I were in a place with pigs (I don’t eat pork; I’d just enjoy watching them and give them a nice long life) 😊

Hey guys. Glad to see pigs back on the homestead. I've already been outside working in my gardens this morning. Daybreak and temps in the 60s are much better on these old bones than the humid mid 90s. The early bird catches the worm. My first vegetable gardens in many many years but everything is doing so well. Edamame, cantaloupes, watermelons, peas, tomatoes, cucumbers and okra are all doing well. Will soon start my fall plants.

Realizing when you were raising them, you were also going through a lot of turmoil with the move and that in itself was rough. Who knows, now that things have settled, maybe you might go back to it. No one will fault you for changing your mind. Homesteading is about what best for you and your family…

Going back to breeding pigs at another time is a possibility but it's not as practical, cost effective, or as profitable as raising other animals!!
@scrapykat3028
@scrapykat3028 Жыл бұрын
@@mindycollier9087 totally understandable, but that moving and bringing in a home, dealing with normal everyday life AND breeding pigs I can totally understand it being overwhelming. Look at the changes with the quail. You adapt to what’s best for your family at any given time. Sometimes it’s going backwards and sometimes not.

We name all our food. It's more respectful than just saying pig, cow... we give them a great life and respect and are blessed for their sacrifice. To honor them we use as much of the animal as possible and I know Kevin and Sarah do the same. It's not for everyone. But just know that it is hard, but they are loved and know it.

Kevin you look so much like my son I hope neither of you ever break the law lol. He hunts state lands of Mo. every season and is seriously thinking of buying land up there and homesteading on a larger scale. He has a garden and chickens but he grew up with cows, pigs, goats horses and chickens. I've a strong feeling he would like to do that again. Honestly you and he could pass for twins, except for the eyes. On video your eyes look brown, his is a mixture of grey, green and blue, what would be called hazel. Other than the eye color wow it's amazing. My son is 6ft 3in and about the same body size as yourself.

We learn so much more abt what animals will do by observation & it's often surprising. Many ppl can't be bothered, but these are sentient beings. How they react tells abt weather & other things you barely notice. Dogs aren't the only vigilant creatures. *Pig behavior is a Kevin thing & the ducks. Sarah the chickens. (They know if there's affinity, or not. Little kids are their favorites.) Look forward to the finished Duck Oasis. Lucky ducks, lol. Fun to watch you guys in action. 🍒🐷🦆
