Some great points. Some lack of due diligence. The OP said $500(assumed monthly), not $5000(assumed annually). That doesn't change your results much, but throwing that out there. TMG regularly mention inflation in their videos, so it seems weird to call them out on it in a moment of excitement. All in all, I think even with the numbers being wrong and not accounting for inflation, the advice is good and is intended to promote long-term forward thinking when it comes to life and investing.

John, thanks a lot for your response. You also could have watched the TikTok video, know about the reality and go on with your life. But you decided to take the myth and correct it in the hope that people see it to take right decisions. This is why I subscribed in first place. I hope that people like you can get a higher reach in this platform to educate more of us out there. Arigatou.

My financial calculator results: $390,298 (3.5% Inflation) At 9% ! But I use portfolios with 13% average in the last 10 years. So… We’re talking about more money (Not guaranteed) My calculator, because it is and I am regulated by Federal laws, can only show 9% maximum Rate of Return.

This is not an investment advice. Only informational purpose.

The tik-tok'er did say $500. I tried some numbers and was able to get $1.3 million if you invest $500 per week at 10% return with no inflation adjustment. But in terms of values after inflation, I get 727K. Still, he should have specified the frequency. Some people might see that Tik-Tok and assume it's a one time investment of $500.

If you watch the rest of the video they make a few additional comments about how nothing is guaranteed and they also mention the inflation rate issue as well. Their video is a quick response if rapid order. I am sure they would have dove into all these issues if they spent 7 minutes on it. I do appreciate you going into more detail.

So did you make the video just to apply a pessimistic spin on things? 🙄😒 The kid was essentially encouraging young people to invest early, consistently, and with the long-term in mind. Also, he said $500 per month, or $6,000 per year (NOT $5,000). That makes a massive difference. And obviously inflation will affect purchasing power long-term. You know what isn’t a solution? Bitching about inflation not being factored in on in a TikTok created by a 20 year old. Most Americans have practically nothing stashed away for their future anyway. And watch the rest of their video. They didn’t “agree” with everything he said. They agreed with the general sentiment of what he was saying. They also made a very clear point to say the returns are NOT guaranteed. Glass half full, buddy 👍🏻
