Love the video, but please look into the screen always while speaking and recording. I'm a huge lip reader, and I'm sure there must be many more like me.

I just had my fifth anniversary at Amazon, most of that time I have been in the IT department. I expect to be there another five years. I can imagine what you're saying is plausible.

Thank you for this valuable content! As a marketer with a diverse background spanning many areas of the field, I often find myself tailoring my resume extensively for each job application, emphasizing specific aspects of my experience depending on the role. However, when it comes to LinkedIn, I’m unsure how to approach this without losing focus. What's your advice? Thank you!!

SWE and aspiring Prompt Engineer, coming in late on this discussion. That said, just had to comment on the point of impressing senior-level managers as a decision-making whole. Valuable point! Truly an insider's perspective that most are unaware of. It's becoming increasingly difficult to work for 'checked-in' people now. If you ever consider hiring for your own co. please let us know, because it's rough working with uninspiring automatons in tech. This was a value add moment. Thanks, JM.

Ok.. Say I started bucket #2 six years ago, and it grew over time, earned almost 18k followers and started earning a legit income.. Suddenly, say my stupid ass fell for a phishing scam and a hacker completely stole my 2nd bucket, ran it into the ground by posting porn and other obscene content, killing my reputation before deleting the bucket completely.. I've tried starting over but the strategies I used before have been taken away - they don't work anymore - now, I'm fighting algorithms and what have you and now it feels like I'm posting content into a void that sees little to no engagement at all. I hate thinking it, but it really feels like my dream is dying.. And there's nothing I can do nor anyone to reach out to for advice and now I'm posting into a comment section of a video that's over 3 yrs old... giving up seems like the only option.. fuck my life...

1. **Amazon's Four-Year Cliff**: The speaker left Amazon due to the "four-year cliff," where stock compensation heavily diminishes after the initial four years. 2. **Compensation Breakdown**: At Amazon, compensation includes base salary and "bridge cash" in the first two years, with stock vesting as follows: 5% in year one, 15% in year two, and 40% each in years three and four. 3. **Bridge Cash Removal**: By year three, bridge cash ends, and employees rely solely on stock, which fluctuates with market performance. 4. **Stock Market Risk**: This structure can be a gamble if Amazon's stock price declines, impacting total compensation in the later years. 5. **Promotion Disadvantages**: Promotions increase workload with minimal pay increase, and newly promoted employees are placed at the lower end of their new pay band. 6. **External Opportunities**: The speaker notes that similar roles outside Amazon offer higher pay, bonuses, and new stock options, often with fewer responsibilities. 7. **Talent Retention Strategy**: Amazon’s compensation structure discourages long-term retention to avoid employee complacency, pushing employees to seek external opportunities after four years. 8. **Importance of Market Value**: The speaker emphasizes regularly assessing one's value in the job market to ensure career and financial growth. 9. **Personal Decision**: Leaving Amazon was beneficial for career development and financial reasons, as it allowed the speaker to take on new challenges and responsibilities. 10. **Conclusion**: The speaker finds fulfillment in new learning experiences, contrasting with the routine, automated nature of tasks in long-term roles.

Questions I always respond when asked salary expectations at interview. 1. What is your budget and the salary range for the role? 2. Is that total package?

I have a similar situation and need help. I went in for an interview for a certain position and they had another position that just opened that fit my experience better. However, the salary exception I gave them was for the other position which was higher. I didn't think about it until I left the interview and looked up the salary expectations for the other job in the area. It was much lower, which I am fine with. I really want to work for this company but don't want to lose the offer because of salary. What should I do?

I was in a nu metal band that failed in the early 2000s. I wanted to be a big rock star and it never materialized. By all metrics, I’m successful now, but because I never achieved my dreams, I feel like such a huge loser.

I set up an interview at a competitor of my company and showed my boss the Email they sent me and the job posting showing that they paid 120 k for literally the exact same position I was doing (I was making 70k). They set up an emergency meeting with HR, because if they lost me, they would lose a human filing cabinet with crucial plant information memorized. They now pay me 140 k and a new position was created for me.

My company wants me to live and breathe them. They say we’re “a family” all the time. That’s a huge trigger warning right there. I say fuck that, my family is at home, and I would never let my work life invade my REAL families life. I don’t take my family to work events. My coworkers have never met my family. They never will either.

From what I've heard from several different L6 they have been with Amazon for years, some over 7 years. Why because of the job security and benefits. They also told me that knowing the job that pays you a 6 figure salary + benefits while making you worth even more professionally makes them want to stay on the L6 lever for decades. L6 stress is manageable in their opinion.

Remember the $450K he is talking about here is the total per year - base + stock RSU + bonus.

Don't think it's necessary to go into things like inflation, stocks etc., they're things that everyone deals with. I think you want to focus on what makes sense for your current financial situation, given the market, the scope of work and maybe your current position.

Thank you so much for this detailed insight . So i am in a tricky situation. My amazon loop interview got over at last Thursday. I got a call from a recruiter stating “congratulations team has very positive feed back for you. We are intended to hire you but now we dont have a role. We will give you a letter if intent. You dont have to reloop or something but u gotta wait until we find a home for you” . Now that was really kinda tough pill to swallow. I donno what an intent letter is. Does it talk about salary etc. ? Could you please help How to deal with it? If the intent letter has any numbers can I negotiate or should i wait until an actual offer?
@aliwesker2 ай бұрын
that means you will be in the pickle, this is one of the times that you can take the letter of intent and use it as leverage for other negotiations. you wouldnt know the offer. no one knows the exact line.

Who else thought we were gonna watch a video of a guy making around 50 to 60 thousand a year and was being short changed by Amazon?? No no no. Instead we watched a self privileged baby complaining for making too much money. In all the other continents on Earth (with exception to Australia), making 100 thousand a year would be incredible. In the USA privileged babies get over 200 k plus stocks and still complain. Why did I click on this crap.

Seriously.. I am not being snarky, but how do all these salary negotiation videos exist without giving ANY useful information about salaries and what to ask for? it is mind boggling to me. lol. I am expecting a call back this week and have no idea what to ask for and 20 videos have given me zero useful information. If it were not for the recruiters - who I can speak directly to - I would not stand a chance getting what I need for the role.
