this would be interesting because you would have the rl person be confused about these sims especially if they don't even realized they are in the game right away and have joke call outs about how sims just chat for a couple minutes and suddenly they are best friends or dating or getting married like it keeps cutting to and from two sims talking and its them advancing fast or just them flabbergasted about sims being unable to do things that would be so easy such as the ladder as mentioned but even funnier not being able to go around an empty plate

Things I'd expect from a Sims movie: 1. Random objects or even whole new extra rooms suddenly appearing instantly when it's needed. (Also things randomly disappearing once it's no longer needed) 2. Characters aka the Sims, all having clear ADHD in that they know that they should go do this task but instead run off to cross stitch or something (Look my sims are always addicted to cross stitching and I have to take the cross stitch box away a lot to get them to actually go eat or something. and I get it. I have ADHD myself my sims are very much a mood.) 3. That classic Sims chaos of weird random things like fire toilets and the like. 4. Random background characters having bad fashion moments and lots of the eyeball ring. 5. References (at least) to weird sims death. "Uncle Doug was eaten by a cowplant yesterday, we are all very sad and can't function well."

that's what I'm thinking. i feel that it would be more interesting if it were maybe a horror-comedy of sorts. they never become sentient, but they try to escape the wrath of their God raining down upon them (random deaths, unexpected actions, even major game updates could be incorporated). i think it would also be really funny if they did that and then it zooms out of the screen to see an actual child just torturing the sims, clickedy clacking away lol

I feel like you could make an interesting story about someone getting a Sims-like game that allowed them to play with their real life friends and neighbours. At first they start doing stuff for good, and then they start to do more selfish stuff. I reckon you could do a good 'power-corrupts' story with that set-up, but I'd struggle to see why a franchise would let themselves be licensed for something like that!

I'm picturing it as similar to the newest DnD movie. They took a lot of the most common struggles that players have with DnD games and then incorporated that into the story. That way anyone who plays DnD would get the most out of it because they could relate to it. That's really what I want out of a Sims movie!!!

I reckon they might do what they did in "Wreck-It Ralph". It's full of retro video games lore, and I thoroughly enjoyed spotting all the jokes and references, but it isn't crucial for the plot, so even people who aren't (or weren't) gamers can still watch the film without feeling like they're missing out. It also fits into the "becoming sentient" narrative quite well.

I want this to be a surreal horror film. It starts with a normal, suburban family. Dad is in the business career and mom is a stay at home painter. But, slowly, things begin to turn. People begin behaving erratically and out of character. Dad gets into fights, mom is cheating, the kids aren't going to school. And then "accidents" begin to happen. Fireworks go off indoors and doors disappear as people try to escape the fire. Mysterious lightning strikes. People are drowning in pools. All the while, everyone behaves as if this is normal, only ever stopping to grieve for a few days before moving on. Eventually, the whole family is gone. Then it resets and everyone is back to normal and the cycle continues.

I cried in happiness when I saw this- The Barbie Movie and the Loki series are my two favorite things to watch and I'm OBSESSED with the Sims4. This is a dream come true. Margot Robbie is perfect to produce this given her works with Barbie and given the themes in Loki I'm expecting something possibly phycological. as others habe commented, i really hope it’s not a “sim becomes sentient” but more of a “irl person finds themselves in the sims game”. also i don’t know much about the lore but if there’s one npc i’d like to see, it’s eliza pancakes lmao how fun would it be tho if they made the movie kind of a collection of known challenges, like rags to riches, so the main character has to find some obscure way to make money fast (and gets help from the expert himself, stanley ofc) and they also help out other sims by babysitting for example and notice the alarming amount of kids this person has (100 baby challenge) or that all the kids seem to have colour related names, and so on xD as for cameos, lilsimsie and kelsey are the only simmers i watch, so i’d love to see them appear in the movie somewhere. although dan & phil with their dil alien legacy would also be cool ahaahah

i don't think they'll do it, but a cool concept would be to have the main character be an original sim to the movie who, as they slowly become self aware, learn about the bizarre disappearance of bella goth and convince themself that finding her and solving the mystery around her disappearance would lead them to the answers they're looking for, why it feels like they're being controlled and watched by an unseen force. bella's disappearance could lead them down the path of aliens and murder mysteries, trying to piece it all together and we'd get to see them dig up information about the caliente twins, don lothario, and then look more into the aliens and pollination technicians (maybe a red herring or more simple false lead being PT's family in strange town?) and then perhaps the trail would lead back to mortimer and his quest for creating the youth serum? it *is* strange how fast he moved on to that caliente sister after all... but the ending could be a sudden realization about pool ladders going missing, emergency exit doors disappearing right before fires start, maybe it's the unseen force that truly took bella away from her family?

I think it would be so cool to have it start as a 'mystery action' type film: main character is a police officer and starts investigating all the 'lore' like why did Bella Goth dissapear, why has Johnny Zest been abandoned, why do people's pool ladders keep dissapearing? Then as the film is midway through they start gaining 'sentience' and somehow looks to the sun or in the corner and sees through the light to see the player (maybe youtuber cameos?), panicking they try to tell everyone about this. Thats when we start to see from the perspective of the 'player' saying "have you guys noticed this new glitch?" eventually it gets back to the main character, as the camera zooms out onto the screen the player sees that they have a fear of being controlled and either UI chats it away or turns off fears and then the main character forgets and goes about their life?

I hope they reference the chaos that the sims can be. Like I want to see the iconic things like the Cow Plants, the heart bed, stuff like that but also random fires, ladders disappearing out of pools, having walls randomly appear around a sim. Or like references to challenges like that one sim who's had 25 babies and other sims are like oh yeah she's doing the 100 Baby Challenge or like that one sim that will only surround themselves with a single color because they're doing the Not So Berry Challenge.

When you mention the possibility of the movie plot involving a character realizing they're in a game, it reminded me of that movie, Free Guy. The main character in that movie was an NPC character who notices a loop of events every morning and how he's also stuck in it. He realizes he's a character in a game and tries to become the main character by finding and donning the special glasses the players wear.

Googled it, only to discover this is from a Tumblr blog years ago about a "cancelled" movie plan. Full backstory, on the same blog page, is "In 2007 EA Games had planned a film of The Sims, Fox bought the rights to the game to make the film for unknown reasons was never announced and several years of rumors. i think that a sims movie is an amazing concept since the story is so malleable, and hearing your theories inspired me to think about something. I think most people are aware of the sims you get when you begin creating a new household, and you typically get a sim from a group of recurring characters, and i wonder if it could be about one or more of them? i think that could be a super cool concept to explore their lives in the sims world or being in “create-a-sim limbo” or something lol
