I followed closely the election in Argentina because I was fascinated with Milei. But what shocked me the most is that they announced the winner *within minutes* of the closing of the voting centers at 8pm!! Because of using paper votes. In the USA in 2020 many states flipped in the middle of the night, several hours after the closing of the voting centers. This is why people in the USA and in Brazil do not believe elections are clean. I frankly do not know what will happen in Nov 2024 ...

I am from Argentina, the only way to ensure transparent and democratic elections is to vote through paper ballots and have what we have here called "fiscales de mesa", people from all the political parties (and voluntaries that love to participate in democratic processes) that participate on the election to ensure the transparency and make a cross control. If you hear politicians trying to use some kind of electronic or change an already working system process 100% wants to influence elections and make fraud.

Argentina's Big Mac's are way cheaper than our own in the States, and guess who's are cheaper still yet.... Ukraine's , by almost THREE WHOLE DOLLARS....let that sink in. Our economy is currently in the top ⅕th of the list of economies, while Ukraine is in the bottom ⅕th.... meaning they're doing a HELL of a lot better than we are doing with inflation, production, wages, ECT..... and here "we" are, sending them BILLIONS.

The reason why Bolsonaro didn't seem so revolutionary like Milei is that Brazilian economy was already more advanced than the Argentinean. And the politics in Brazil is way more complicated, just like in the USA. Brazilian society has the same racial and cultural complexity found in the States, plus the size of the territory and the amount of people. Bolsonaro managed to be pragmatic, even in pandemic, after being stabbed by a leftist and after many other situations happened. Milei didn't have an alternative. He had to be totally different. Bolsonaro had to be conciliatory in order to keep the model that were already working, economically speaking.

Full socialism has never truly been in practice except ancient Greece. However, it is now referred to as direct democracy. Socialism can never work when the powers of government are in the hands of a few. The only way that socialism can work is when paired with direct democracy. When governmental power is in the hands of the few, the leaders usually exempt themselves from it. Additionally, the wealth bribe exemptions from it, and you get oligarchs. The problem with socialism (which people seem to forget is an economic structure, not a governmental structure) is the governmental structure where socialism is in place. Capitalism and socialism are near opposites because pure capitalism doesn't exist in practice. People never conflate the negative effects a given government has on its society to capitalism, like they do with socialism. Oddly, many capitalistic countries mirror aspects of Roman governance, save for the part where leaders, including the emperors, were not above the law. Most hold the opposite views of Roman emperors. They view they need certain immunities from they law in order to create and enforce the law; whereas, Roman emperors views were the opposite. They believed that they must be subject to the very laws they create and/or enforce. If they weren't, why would they expect the populace to accept subjection to and follow laws.
